I am wondering if a 2.5Gbe Thunderbolt 4 adapter is plugged into the 7x70, would the workstation support the higher ethernet speed?

Yes it would.

Excellent step up from the GPU power limits on the 7560 🙂 and another bump up as I was hoping for with the 7770!

I do have one more question myself I I may,

will it be possible to disable Efficiency “E”cores in the BIOS on the precision mobile range? (3000, 5000 and 7000 series) certain applications at the moment are performing better without the E cores for me currently. I did check the manuals for the released systems but it doesn’t go into that depth Just the usual list of multi core settings.

on the Precision 3000 series desktops it is listed under Atom cores, setting that to 0 disables the efficiency cores

I'm not aware of any settings in the BIOS to disable the efficiency cores.  I will check.

This should work up to 10 Gbe easily.  (...You could probably push 2.5 Gbe over regular USB-C.)

Correct, you can use any Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter and get the higher speeds.

Been getting some calls from Dell customer support today — haven't had a chance to answer but I'll try to pick up the next one.  I just called the customer service line for order status and the automated system says that my order is "on hold".

[Edit]

Actually they left a voicemail, the guy says that the new workstation orders will indeed be canceled, and due to the COVID lockdowns in China, they have no ETA on when the new models will be available.  We'll see what happens...

What RAID levels are supported? 7770 specs pdf mentions only RAID 10. Can one configure RAID 1, or two pairs of RAID 1?

Answer:

On 4/27/2022 at 10:09 AM, Dell-Mano_G said:

7670 thin will support no RAID, RAID 0, RAID 1.

7670 Performance will support no RAID, RAID 0, RAID 1, & RAID 5.

7770 will support no RAID, RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 5, & RAID 10.

With a four-drive setup, you should be able to do two RAID 1's or two RAID 0's (or one of each) if you so choose.

If you have drives that aren't the same size, I think that you can use the leftover space from one drive in another array as well?  I.e. With three drives drives of capacity 2TB + 2TB + 4TB, you could use a 2TB and half of the 4TB in a RAID 1 array and use the other 2TB with the remaining space in the 4TB for a second RAID 1 array.  I'm not completely sure about this but I feel like I noticed it as an option when playing around with the Intel RAID interface once.  [Edit] The Wikipedia article that I linked below also indicates that this is an option.

The RAID solution is Intel Rapid Storage Technology, which is used in systems other than the Dell Precision.  You can look up documentation on it.

I’m hearing the same as @arron44126 for the UK, June 16th is the plan at least… 🙂

from what I heard the pre production units which are built for testing,  certification by various software providers were not built long ago due to China lockdown related issue which Must have contributed to the delay but  still we all want them to be right so I can wait a little longer!

on the good news front The China factory does seem to be more back to something like normal service for the current gen precision 7760 machines we have ordered in May.

Precision systems are being prioritised and the systems not only  got built quickly but we didn’t not see the same delays in shipping we had seen of late.  It’s looking more like 3-4 weeks from order to arrival rather than the 8+ weeks we were seeing when lockdown in China was at its worst l, some orders we were waiting 4-5 weeks between leaving the factory and arrival, so bad were the logistics challenges!

I’m still going to be ordering our batches of the new generation systems soon after release though to avoid delays, new systems tend to take a little longer for extra quality checks and don’t want to risk delays if demand is high and components start going on longer lead times again.

This is what I received from Dell about 10min ago:

Dear  xxxxx,

This launch update has came out on 6/2/22. The recent Shanghai lockdown has led to delays to key engineering and validation activities related to the Precision Mobile 7670 / 7770 launch thus impacting the Ready to Order (RTO) schedule. Earlier communicated RTO date of 7th June 2022, is being pushed out.

However, We don’t have a firm new date for the RTO yet. Will however keep you posted once we have a better view on when we can announce the RTO date. Alternatively you can take advantage of the available model we have for the XPS 17

Certainly seems like we are hearing similar things, I’m glad Dell would rather delay than release when they aren’t confident!

Odd to promote the XPS 17 rather than the Precision 5770 though?!

Hard to believe that you can fit 150W 3080Ti in that space, but it doesn't look like there is any room to expand the card size out to the left (fans go there).

I was going to say, just two DGFF connections makes it look like this will be PCIe4 ×8 and not ×16.  But, they appear to have changed up the DGFF connector and added more pins, so it may well support ×16.  The 7760 one looks like this:

Where's the PCH?

What is the DGFF-looking connector that is to the upper left of the CPU for?

Also, seems that coin-cell battery connector is on the wrong side of the motherboard again, if I'm interpreting this image right.

[Edit 3]

Looks like they went for full integrated Wi-Fi card.  I only see a WWAN card slot, and they do not have any directions for removing the WLAN card.  That's a bit disappointing.

(You could potentially mount a NGFF Wi-Fi card in the WWAN slot, with an adapter, if there is physical clearance for the card+adapter.  However, it was previously stated that WWAN antennas are only included if you order a WWAN card, so you'd have to figure out an antenna setup too.)

Looks like soldered wifi. Also photos show a heatpipe heatsink even with a high end GPU so does that mean no vapor chamber? In theory with that setup it could still handle 125W sustained on the CPU if the GPU is inactive or not present.

Spec sheet specifically mentions vapor chambers (plural).  Could the grill things right on top of the CPU and GPU chips be mini vapor chambers?

Spec sheet specifically mentions vapor chambers (plural).  Could the grill things right on top of the CPU and GPU chips be mini vapor chambers?

Yeah, maybe it has a unified vapor chamber with heatpipes soldered to it going to the fin stacks.
