thanks. Removing the battery, now on power it seems ok.  I am not sure if it is the battery or the tech messed up the cable.  It did not want to stay seated.  While I had it open, I held the connected in and power on the system (base not on) and it powered on.  I turned off right away.  if I did not hold the connector in, it would not turn on.

New battery shipped.  Tech said they cannot ship batteries next day so it will arrive Friday.  Hopefully it will solve the problem.  

 

Also, when taking the back cover off, the front side closest to the slot card comes off easy now.  Turns out the tech broke one of the clips.  The screws do hold it on so there is no gap or anything once screwed down.

Did you ever had problems with windows Dell SupportAssist diagnostics with non-factory SSD installed?

I have PNY 4TB drive and every time I make diagnostics it ends with BSOD.

Then after first restart he doesn't see the system drive.

after second restart everything seems fine.

 

That was the case of quick test.

After full test problem is more serious - drive disapears for longer time and randomly returns after multiple restarts.

 

Tests in BIOS are ok - without issues.

Problem occurs only in windows test.

 

That's also not a problem of specific SSD - thought so and replaced it on warranty - situation remained the same.

Did you try another slot?

 

another thing to try is turn off bitlocker. I had an issue once and I had to turn of bitlocker and then turn it back on.

On my Precision 7560, I cannot use a drive in the primary drive slot (in the middle of the system).  It is not stable, it disappears after a period of time, which will result in either a crash or lock-up if it is the system drive or the drive vanishing if it is not.  It might come back after a reboot or it might not.  I've had the motherboard replaced twice but the issue returned each time.  (My current motherboard does not have the little push-button switch beneath the drive slot which was originally thought to be the cause of this.)  I've been just getting by without using that slot.

 

So.  What @Rinconmike said.  Put it in a different slot and see.

Probably not very helpful for you, but I run the SupportAssist diagnostics weekly with non-factory installed SSDs and to date, have not experienced this. When purchased, I only had one drive, the smallest available, but I immediately replaced it and filled all slots myself with Samsung 980 PROs.

Anyone run into this BSOD? It'll probably boot in safe mode. This has happened before and I resolved it by loading the latest bios (1.23.0 at the time) from a USB drive. 

 

This time, it's already running the latest bios so flashing it again didn't do anything. 

 

I believe removing and reinstalling the Nvidia driver would resolve this, however this is my work laptop so I don't have administrative privileges.

Yes, this is a stupid but known thing.  Get to safe mode, go to Device Manager, and disable the "NVIDIA platform controller & framework" device under "Software devices".  You should then be able to boot normally.  To avoid this, you have to run an older version of the NVIDIA driver (I think 511.x and older is safe).

 

You can also enable Intel TurboBoost 3.0 or some such setting in the BIOS to avoid this, but Dell removed that option in the latest BIOS updates, which is probably why you ran into this right after you updated the BIOS.

 

If you don't downgrade the NVIDIA driver or the BIOS, then watch out for future NVIDIA driver updates or Windows major upgrades which might "un-disable" this device.  (Hopefully, NVIDIA or Dell eventually fixes this so that we don't have to worry forever.)

You're spot on. Tech support uninstalled the Nvidia driver and reverted back to the 3/9/23 default Windows driver. I

 

I would've done it myself, but they have our work laptops locked down tight.

BSOD driver unloaded without cancelling pending operations

  • Boot into safe mode
  • Uninstall NVIDIA drivers with DDU
  • Boot into Windows
  • In Device Manager, uninstall any devices under Software Devices called "NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework". They all had a yellow exclamation
  • Reboot
  • Install latest NVIDIA drivers
  • Reboot

I am running today BIOS 1.26.0 with NVIDIA 537.42. Luckily I have not personally seen this but it's know problem.

Maybe because I have not skipped over any BIOS versions.

 

After BIOS installation uninstall the extra NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework if exist.

Intel Turbo Boost Maximum Technology 3.0 setting is removed from BIOS since version 1.22.1 like you noticed.

My son has a 7560.  He said on boot he got a message that said something like manufacturer mode and then service tag is not is not programmed properly.  He then said it booted into windows fine.  That is all I have right now and will be looking at it later?

 

A month or two ago we had the fans replaced and had to replace the battery.  No Motherboard change and no hardware changes since.

 

Any idea what this can be?  Could he have pressed a key combination at boot that caused this?  Could it be from a Windows update?  I did previously turn off the setting of letting the bios update via Windows update.

That is odd.

 

When you first boot up a Dell system (in the factory, or after having the motherboard replaced with a brand new one) it is supposed to go through some initial BIOS screens and ask you to input the service tag, set the vPro support level, and maybe a couple of other things.  It sounds like this is what he ran into?  I have no idea why.  On older systems you could "trick" the system into going back to this stage so that you could change the service tag (I remember doing this on an Inspiron 5150 after I swapped out the motherboard by myself) but my impression was that with newer systems it is locked down after you go through this process once.

So the Service Tag was missing. Not sure what caused this.  booting into Bios (F2) and the System Management screen came up.  Entered the Service Tag and saved.  Rebooted the screen came up and I hit Alt-F to exit manufacturing mode.  It then booting into windows.  I restart and seemed to boot fine now.  

 

I chatted with Dell Pro Support and he has no idea why this happened.

 

I will run the diagnostics next.

 

the system is in Bios 1.23.0.  I will update to 1.26.0

 

EDIT: I have not updated bios yet.  I noticed when booting it is slow to get to dell logo.  I checked bios and the pre-boot behavior is thorough.  My other 7560 and 7760 is on minimal.  any reason not to change this?  Not sure if it was always like this or this issue changed it.

It booted fine. But Now I am getting a BSOD that says "Driver_Unloaded_Without_Canceling_Pending_Operations"

 

It tries and reboots and fails again and then I need to enter the bitlocker Key.  I was able to get into safe mode and then rebooted and same thing.

 

Any ideas?

I tried installing the latest nvidia driver from nvidia site. same thing.

 

I scrolled up and read @heikkuri post and I need to do that but that is not 100% clear to me on uninstalling the nvida driver.

 

Also stinks every time I boot I need to enter the bitlocker key to get into safe mode.  Is that normal?

 

Edit: In safemode I went to device manager and uninstalled the nvidia driver and two framework entries.  I then was able to boot ok.  I then went in and uninstalled the Nvidia Driver under Programs.  I rebooted and it went into windows. under device manager there was the exclamation point next the Nvidia Graphics Card and The one Framework entry.

 

I then installed the Dell Latest Nvidia Driver which is 536.45.  So I am back up and running for now.

Did you try disabling (not uninstalling) NVPCF in safe mode as Aaron suggested above?

 

You may also want to double check if the installed Nvidia driver version matches the installed NVPCF version. If it does not you can extract the drivers and manually update NVPCF. I would also suggest staying away from the 546 series drivers for the time being as they have been reported to cause freezes on the mobile chips.

thanks.  I did not try just disabling the NVPCF.  I missed that going through the posts.  But uninstalling the NVPCF seems to fix it.  this had two.  I remember on one of my other systems I had to uninstall one of the two.  Now in windows.

 

In Device Manager

 

The NVPCF driver is 31.0315.3534

The Nvidia Graphics Driver is 31.0.15.3645

 

Separate issue, in the Bios should I leave pre-boot behavior as thorough or change to minimal like my other machines.  I do not think I changed on my other machines.  I this one I do not recall ever checking until now.

It *is* normal to need to enter the BitLocker key to get into safe mode.  You can avoid this by suspending BitLocker before you try to enter safe mode... but of course you can only do that if your trip to safe mode is "planned".

Back to my original issue today on it being in Manufacturing mode.  Something change settings in Bios.  There was a Setting under Power for wake on connecting the dock.  I am pretty sure that was off.  My son confirmed that he always had to press the power button to turn it on.  Before updating from 1.23 to 1.26 I took photos of all settings and this was enabled so I do not think going from 1.23.0 to 1.26.0 changed it.  So I had to disable it again.  Now the system is running in AHCI mode and not the default RAID. That did not change.  That is still in AHCI mode.  I am not sure what happened but something deleted the service tag and changed at least the one other bios setting.

  • Boot into safe mode
  • Uninstall NVIDIA drivers with DDU
  • Boot into Windows
  • In Device Manager, uninstall any devices under Software Devices called "NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework". They all had a yellow exclamation
  • Reboot
  • Install latest NVIDIA drivers
  • Reboot

 

Tried this today.  Works for me.  Well, I didn't mess with DDU, I just checked Device Manager.  It had two instances of "NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework".  I removed them both and it rediscovered just one, which I left enabled.  No BSOD at boot anymore.

I previously had an issue with my Son's 7560 where the fans sounded like griding.  Diag tests passed but due to sound Dell replaced the fan.   This was a couple months ago.

 

Well my son woke up to this message in teh clip below.  The fans sound normal.  The boot diag quick tests passed.  We ran just the test on fans again and passed.

 

Any ideas.

Eh.  I am kind of inclined to go along with the suggestion in the message.  Worry about it "if the problem recurs".  Not sure what really can be done other than replacing the fan assembly again — or the motherboard, if this turns out to be not a fan issue.
