This is a bit out of topic but, are there any options for GPU upgrade in MSI GX70 (AMD counterpart of the GT70)

So far from what I've seen, it's got something called AMD Enduro which forces it to use iGPU for light tasks and then use the HD8970M for heavy tasks. No one has managed to disable iGPU through any means.

The laptop uses an 17.3 inch LVDS panel and what I want to know is that if there is any possible GPU upgrade for it. (Picked it up at a local marketplace for 50$)

Specs- AMD A10 5750M

             8GB DDR3 1600

             128GB SATA SSD

             HD 8970M 2GB

Heard that NVIDIA graphics cards won't work in this model due to the Enduro thing. Please help.

Hello.

This is the wrong thread.

Your laptop is LVDS. This thread is for a product to allow eDP displays to work with the newest RTX MXM.

Enduro is the Optimus of Intel.

Try to get a Quadro Maxwell or a cheap Quadro P3000/P4000 and try. If it doesn't work, you could send the item back if the seller agrees.

Did your laptop model came with an Nvidia MXM?

I don't see why it wouldn't work but your CPU's single thread is very low.

Sorry for posting on this thread but the MSI GX70 has some weird bs that forces the igpu and dgpu to run together.

A user in MSI forums had tried to install an 880M but the laptop had a black screen.

Any thoughts on GPU compatibility?

No. I meant did your laptop brand model came with an NVIDIA GPU? Like a GTX 780M?

Edit: I researched and no, it never came with Nvidia graphics only with AMD.

You might encounter some problems like no boot, fan panic. Even if your APU is the display device.

If you had the MSI GT70, it's compatible with Nvidia

New PRICE DROP!

Please buy! Backlight mod v2 with PWM control: https://ebay.io/m/6xLqRv

Hi SuperMG, how do I buy this from the UK? Also in your eBay listing, you list my laptop: HP ZBook 17 G5. What newer cards are known to work with this? Currently I have a Quadro P5200 and I'm just looking to upgrade to something with the at least the same Vram, 16GB, but with newer RTX Tensor/RT cores.

I've only just joined but I've read this forum for some time and I am still a little confused about the vbios requirements. The Zbook MXMs not having vbios on card for example.

I was looking at this: https://www.x-vsion.com/product/mxm-embedded-module-rtx-a5500-16gb/ but happy to use any later RTX 16B card than I have now. What card was known to work from your listing? And what if any vbios would be required for these embedded MXMs to work with my laptop.

Thanks.

Hello.

Yes any cards that have UEFI VBIOS and DP_D signal as DP/eDP will work in your laptop.

Someone tested with the RTX 4090 (X-VSION vbios chip) withOUT the backlight mod and it worked with his external DP output and also in Switchable Graphics mode.

People tested the RTX 3000/5000 (HP vbios chip) and they worked in the Zbook G5 17.

G5 17 and G6 17 share the same MXM pinouts so no worries.

You need to find a custom heatsink for the RTX Ada cards. I wouldn't recommend 150W+ cards because of the thermal room and of the limit of the official 230W PSU.

On my tests, the A5500 was slower than the RTX 3080M and the A5500 was a little bit faster than the RTX 5000.

I also sell an RTX 4070 115W but it's a 8GB card. Has the backlight mod already installed on the card. It beats the 3080M.
