Need help for editing or getting VBIOS for 4080M and 4090M MXM

Hello. I'm the person who made the Turing to Ada MXM cards to work on eDP with a solder-less eDP backlight flex cable mod.

 

I need your help everyone. 

 

The XVSION 4080M and 4090M have eDP disabled on the VBIOS. Which means, once the drivers are installed, we are greeted with a blackscreen, no signal. The drivers uninstall the PnP drivers and installs a non-PnP one, resulting to an error 43 and a blackscreen, making the GPU not to work natively.

 

However, this doesn't happen with the X-VSION 4050M, 4060M, 4070M because they have eDP enabled on the VBIOS and once the drivers are installed, it works natively.

 

Only way to make the 4080M and 4090M to work is to trick the OS and install the laptop's display EDID data after the drivers are initialised from the startup. It's not a native way and requires extra steps.

 

But... We are also losing DP_A, so the external DP is useless. Only DP_C (HDMI) works for external display.

 

The 4070M, all the external output of DP_A, DP_B, DP_C are working great.

 

What we want:

 

Enable back the eDP on DP_D for the 4080M and 4090M.

 

Change the display orders to DP/DP/HDMI/eDP (like on the 4050M to 4070M)

 

I tried to contact Nvidia support for help, but they don't make "VBIOSes". I then asked help from people who sell Frankenstein RTX 4080M/4090M GPUs (X-Vsion used these), I wanted to know who makes the VBIOS and where they source them from. They don't know either?

 

I saw that ZRT have the perfect VBIOS configuration for the 4080M and 4090M but... They never replied to me about the VBIOS files. I even tried to buy a GPU from them but still nothing. It's silent.

 

On ZRT's datasheet, I found the VBIOS version numbers from their GPU-Z screenshot but no vBios are available online.

 

4090M: 95.03.2A.00.1D

4080M: 95.04.3A.00.0E

 

Xvsion doesn't help either.

 

So that's why I'm asking for some help. If any of you know who can edit/make signed VBIOSes or if any of you have a ZRT MXM 4080M, 4090M, let me know. I can pay money for the VBIOSes and test them on the X-VSION 4080M/4090M cards.

After trying to get an answer from Xvsion, here's their answer:

Did I mention to remake the PCB? Are you kidding me?

 

vBios is a file, just edit the file that's inside the sop8 chip and enable the eDP like on the 4050/4060/4070 vBios.

 

vBios STORES THE DISPLAY DATA!!

 

DP_A = DP

DP_B = DP

DP_C = HDMI

DP_D = eDP enabled 

 

The person who said to edit the PCB doesn't even know what a vBios is or maybe you made a miscommunication with them, who knows.

 

vBios edit = file of 2MB containing display outputs data and GPU's

information."

 

... I told them exactly the issues with days of testing and this is how they "fix" the issue, by saying lies. I'm giving up man, no one cares...

??? Makes no sense, it's a vBios file that can be edited with the right tools.

Look here, these mac guys managed to edit the display tables on pascal Pxx00 MXM gpus

I personally tested their p3000 vbios and indeed the eDP is changed from port DP_D (stock vbios) to DP_C (to comply with the iMAC's MXM slot).

 

I tried getting in contact with M0bil who seems to be the lead modder but no reply unfortunately

 

He put up some links to this github saying it helped him mod the vbios but not sure how

 

GitHub - envytools/envytools: Tools for people envious of nvidia's blob driver.

 

I assume that display table modding should be the same for pascal and newer GPUs so there is hope if these modders tell you how to do it.

 

The last heardle is that starting from pascal, nvidia vBios have a checksum lock that means vbios needs to be packed in a special way so that the security chip on the nvidia GPU runs the vbios (I tried manually editing power limits on a vbios and the p3000 and it wouldn't even post, even with 2 bytes being changed).

Above Pascal, no editors work, need a signed vbios or it won't work too...

 

Only hope is to find someone WHO HAS BOUGHT the ZRT 4080 and 4090, but who? Xvsion doesn't really care and that's very concerning, they do a bad job for their "customer care service" or whatever it's called...

Do you know any pascal editors ?

 

For the display table definition it is pretty much universal for nvidia, these guys know how to do it. They used a hex editor, they talk about it in the forum posts.

But did they find a way to edit Ada Lovelace VBIOS display tables? And apply the right checksum? If you could contact one of them and compare both 4070 MXM VBIOS and 4080M VBIOS for example, it would be good for us!
