Idling, no.  The fan stays off.  When it's working, the fan runs as expected.

Why this sizes? Well that's because the AMD heatsink seems to be of a different height compared to NVIDIA one... And the GPU die was far taller than my previous FirePro M6100 so this was the sizes that worked for me. If someone else find a better sizes for this kind of project please make the corresponding corrections to this post.

Iam set on getting the P5000 for my M6800, only picture i seen with new thermal pads is this one using AMD heatsink, which pads should i order for the nvidia heatsink? how tall should they be?

I replaced nVidia with nVidia, and reused the same original pads.  Seems to work just fine.

 

If you're replacing AMD with nVidia, then I wouldn't know.

Iam replacing old K3100, i bet these pads are quite not good, i want to have a good heat transfer on the P5000, i was looking at 0.2mm high PTM7950 from Honeywell, they should be alright, right?

I replaced a K5100.  The old pads were just fine.  They don't degrade, unless you've had water in there, or had it apart before and torn them up.  I wouldn't worry about it.

 

Do clean off and replace the grease though, every time that surface separates.

Okay i think i have good news, i disassembled the laptop, took out the heatsinks(to dremel tomorrow) and my K4100 gpu(dell service tag component site lied about that too i guess), after that i saw some suspicious looking cable labeled eDP going from my screen into the mobo,

i pulled it out and it goes into the JEDP1,

so i guess i do have eDP and Dell service code components page lied to me.

Is that good news? should the P5000 (which is already on the way) work even better now?

 

(here is my board model if thats maybe revelant at all)

Hardly matters at this point.  You'll get what you'll get, and you'll evaluate it then.  Stress test or benchmark if you like; I didn't bother with mine, just went straight to using it.  Pass/fail regardless.  Pass=keep, fail=physical undo.

Yes, you can use any RTX 3070/3080/4060/4070/4080 on this laptop with the backlight mod v2 in PEG. I use RTX 4070 on my M4800.

 

The P5000 won't work in your laptop unless you have the eDP DP_D VBIOS that patches the ACPI error.

Oh, so the ACPI Error is on Pascal regardless of the display type.

I have 2 vBios'es to work with, one from Techpowerup archive and engineerng sample one from here.

Yes this one will work, it had eDP on port DP_D. So in the dell bios -> Video, chosing switchable graphics enable or not will result with you getting an image on the internal display.

 

With switchable graphics OFF you will get an FPS boost.

 

Also feel free to overclock the engineering vbios with my utility, I can guide you through the procedure 😉

It is pretty self explanatory, if you have any questions don't hesitate.

 

you need CH341a bios programmer with 1.8v add-on module !

 

Also I recommend you half assemble the laptop (leave the keyboard + keyboard deck removed) to have easy access to the MXM gpu during flashing and testing, making sure the custom vbios works before assembling the laptop entirely.

Yes, you can use linux to flash the stock ES vbios.

 

Overclocked ES vbios requires a hardware flasher.

 

External keyboard is recommended yes.

I have news, very good ones, the P5000 arrived, i filed the radiator a bit more after i dremeled it yesterday, i put it in, and half-assembled the upper half of laptop.

I got into Linux Mint 18.3 and it saw the gpu, with  ./nvflash --list

then i flashed the vbios just like DynamiteZerg did in 2018 and after the reboot it went straight into Windows10.

After some fighting with NVCleaninstall i present you another example of P5000 working in Dell Precision M6800

I want to thank everyone for the provided help, will post some updates later after i reassemble the laptop fully and test it in some benchmarks.
