This is awesome, congrats on getting it working! I'm starting my research on joining the 30 series club so this has given me some confidence in doing it!

P870TM1 - Dsanke Bios - 9900K - 2nd fan mod (currently sounding like a maraca) RTX 2070 - 32GB Ram - 4.5TB Storage (not even raid, don't know why) - Flies around the world with me as my "portable" gaming station.

P870DMG - My OG - Dsanke Bios - 6700K Delidded and LM - 1070 standard card - 16GB Ram - 1TB SSD (the rest were stolen for the TM) - soon to be my Racing Sim machine.

hi i have upgraded my p870km with a 3080 150watt gpu and in hwinfo  both 7.26 and 7.31 beta i have the hot spot sensor reading a maximum value ov 96° celsius while max gpu core temp is 86° celsiun when gpu lower it power ot not exceed that temperature.

i was wondering if someone can report hwinfo temperature for smililar vga under  test ( i used unigine 2 1080p high)

With my power limits and no offset I am getting around 1800Mhz core clocks with peak of 97C hotspot and 80C core.

Then I took my cooling off auto and added an offset:

This is with a +75Mhz  core offset and 1Ghz ram offset 78C max core temp and 95C hot spot.

Tests ran at max fan speed, because that's how I have it always when I benchmark it or play games.

Used same benchmark as you mentioned.

GPU core is +90, Mem is at 2000MHz (instead of original 1750MHz).

At Idle the difference between hotspot and core is usually 5-6c for me. But I noticed this behaviour across the board, it's always like 5-6C most of the time.

this is at 4k optimized:

Maybe I have misunderstood something? Why does yours run so hot? Don't you run them at full fan speeds?

I can redo them if they need to be done in a specific way.

Does not worth it anymore because it is a dying market.

Everyone goes for the thin and light crapola that we are used to.

For your laptop this is what you need. select GTX1080 RTX2080 RTX3080 air heatsink.

At least you have an option. If I were to go for a 3080 I have to make my own heatsink because nobody provided a solution for the original DM p870.

On the p870tm1-g, I use this heatsink for the 10-20-30 series of video cards, the temperature of rtx3060 is 35 ° in idle / web surfing, 60-65 ° in load. On rtx3070 38-40 ° in idle, 68-72 in load. On rtx3080 42° idle, 70-78 under load. I'm quite satisfied with the results of this radiator. So it's possible to make such a radiator for p870dmg as well.

Also, I forgot to mention but my heatsink came with bent copper fins that I had to unbend, so be aware of that aswell.

After unbending them:

You get the idea... Just let you know what to expect when it arrives if someone is interested in the same heatsink.

Here is all 92 Pictures for those interested: https://files.fm/u/sjj9hyjue

So more on the thermal pads:

The pad under the GPU is same 4MM,

down.php?i=phvpmzxdy

I used both the new pad that came with the aliexpress heatsink + I cut up the old one and used it aswell for additional support because i know from my old RTX 2080 it REALLY likes to bend the card down in this area a lot over time.

And another update on the plastics, there is actually one more place where you need to cut plastic in order for the GPU to sit in the slot because the notch on the RTX 2080 and RTX 3080 is different so just as is it wont even fit in the MXM slot. Its not hard to just cut off the plastic notch entirely as it is not needed ans is just a sneaky and bad attempt from Clevo to try and hold people off from doing an upgrade like this I would assume.

down.php?i=ch3kvmw6z

down.php?i=yhgtu4trz

down.php?i=9jnnzkkwa

And about the foams, well the 2mm ones went on the sides I am sure, and the 1mm ones went on top and bottom, anyways just do the same as it was on the RTX 2080 and you will be good.

ALSO, another HUGE bummer in my opinion is that now the 2nd screw for the keyboard cant be screwed back in as the heatsink blocks it now. I mean you can screw it back in, but every time you need to reflash BIOS or change keyboard or change WIFI card, be ready to remove the whole heatsink which IS SO BAD in my opinion so the screw (where the big cuts are) is not screwed in for me because I tend to brick my BIOS way too much lol XD and cant afford to mess around with my copper shims and K5 pro all the time... but its a bit sad but yeah

that is it I guess, hopefully it is useful info for someone who wishes to do something similiar.

No BIOS mods or VBIOS mods were otherwise necessary, it worked right out of the box.

The only thing needed was a INF mod but I can upload it for your pleasure (just it will also be called RTX 3080 instead of RTX 3080 Laptop GPU because I hate the fact that unlike using the same die as desktop variant as it was with 2080 they now use a RTX 3070 dekstop type die in the 3080 laptop...) which is just sadge. Just replace this INF file with the one in the extracted drivers folder and disable driver enforcment in Windows.

Any questions feel free to ask.

Why not solder those copper memory shims to the heatsink itself? (better heat transfer than paste).

You can also add bios support for that RTX 3080 so you do not need inf mod.

I know it would be much better but I am scared to solder those shims to the heatsink as I have never done anything like this before. The K5 Pro is alright but damn is it a big mess. I wish it would be soldered...

Actually, the ones I am using is 1mm but I could use like 1.5mm shims soldered to the heatsink and then the heat transfer would be excellent. But as I said I have never done this. I do have a dremel, soldering station with hot air, but I am scared because of the horror stories of heatpipes bursting during soldering process. And this heatsink has heatpipes litterally everywhere. Even one dedicated to the VRM area.

Ideally I would want to solder like a 1.5mm if not 2mm copper shim to the VRM area aswell. In order to get some heat transfer from the VRMS I need to use a 2.5mm thermal pad which is more like a joke in terms of effective VRM cooling.

The VRMs are actually crucial for me to do something about it as in the future I am planning to shunt mod (possibly volt mod??) the card to raise the power somewhere along the lines of 180W-200W. Not sure what realistically is possible but seeing that they had a 200W card for the RTX2080 Super I assume it might be possible? I don't think they used different VRM ic's or did they?

About the BIOS mod - how would I achieve this? From my understanding the Device ID is made of two parts. First is the laptops specific ID which in my case is like some string for P775TM and the other half is a string for the GPU part in my case 3080. Because these two were never meant to be together it is not in the geforce driver list?

So, would I need a BIOS mod to spoof my PC as a X170KM-G? Or does it work differently? Feel free to correct me if I am wrong as I'm just speculating...

Also, did the images work for you? As a lot of people said they are broken, but I found that if you sometimes refresh the page they do load in, just slowly... I havent found the time to migrate to a better image hoster.

Would be happy to hear back from you and thanks for your reply.

dont try to solder them.... i desoldered and to desolder them heatpipe disattached like 2 minutes earlier.... those vram heatsink will be the last think to detach... imagine reattach them; yes maybe using low solder  but me too   im currently using thermal paste between them and thermal pad on vram. easy and working

Just get a low melting point solder, my current heatsink (pipes, heat exchanger, plates) all are "Custom" made.

The trick is the contact plate and making sure you dont blow up the heatpipes. For taking it apart, gravity works great and a toaster oven gives you a window. Im going to probably have to remake my heatsink again for my own laptop as the MSI 1080 either needs to be repaired or get a different GPU. Problem is most GPU's dont have an off center die.

Bending pipes is a huge pain though

For his project all he needs is bismuth low melt, put the heatsink in a temp control oven at 150 celsius, put the copper shims on the heatsink with pre applied low melt, put some weight on the shims so they will set properly when the solder melts and that's it.

At 150 celsius nothing will ever happen with the heatpipes.

Very nicely done man, wish I had the skillset/means to make these things. I've been flip flopping between upgrading my current P750FM or taking the plunge on this P870DM3

GeForce Experience now shows notifications for new drivers and drivers from NVIDIA website install without problems.

This is really nice as even when Windows 11 did the update from 21H2 to 22H2 I had to reinstall drivers again with inf mod and driver signature disabling etc and it is just pain. So now this is not an issue + automatic updates.

This was achieved by altering the Device ID. The subsys part now reports same ID as X170KM-G.

G-Sync at the moment is still not working. I personally think it's probably possible to get it back if the mods are done correctly, maybe some parts of code need to be borrowed from X170KM-G bios. I am not sure. But at the moment I am leaving it like it is as I don't really care that much about g-sync for internal panel.

Also Dynamic Boost is still not working. I don't have the slightest clue if it even is possible to get it working with some mods or not (would be nice to run the card at 165W).

When I will have time, I will make a quick YouTube tutorial video on how to modify P775 bios to make it compatible with 30 series cards for anyone who might need it in future. It is not hard and requires only some hex edits in two of the bios modules.

Could not said it better myself. Congrats.
