MELOCODI
I am thinking, what if I get an LA-9772P mobo, different screen and manage to get an RTX 4050 MXM, would that work? Ofc, I will disable integrated graphics, I am just not sure if it would work, because some people say it will only run in optimus mode and some say that it will work straight away, but you won't see anything until Windows finishes booting up. I don't have the t1000 output directly to the laptop screen despite the edp connection. only when connecting an external display is there an image. So I'm using Optimus mode, not sure if it will work with 4050. I want to order this card too😅

I saw cases when there would be all 4 slots working, and it is usually on those ones that have a green interposer. Don't take my word on it tho, it is still a lottery. jerboy04
Hey there everyone, so recently I decided to pull out my old m4800, and man oh man did the nostalgia hit me like a truck. I originally got this laptop from my dad's friend in like 2016/2017, since his work was phasing these out for newer models, and I heavily used it until 2022, when I needed more power for college, and invested in an XPS 9520. 2 years, a bunch of laptops later, the battery went cack in my XPS, and kinda needing a laptop, I decided to bring this beast out once again. The specs are: i7 4800mq 8gb ram (never upgraded shockingly) 512gb no-name ssd nvidia k1100 dgpu 1080p LVDS display (checked with the service tag) running windows 10 enterprise 1909 Other than cleaning out the fans, repasting with PTM, and upgrading the ram, what are some other QoL upgrades that I should do? I really dig the red accents on the m4700/m4600 keyboards, so I plan on getting a backlit variant of that keyboard. I do have other machines that can do my bidding, but they're in various states of repair/function, as I have an addiction of going to electronic recycling centers lmao. Laptops: Daily: XPS 9520 - 12900HK/16/2TB/3050ti Others: Precision 5550 - 10850H/24/T2000/1TB (Dead screen), ZBook Firefly G8 - 1185g7/32/512GB (Dead screen & keyboard), ZBook Studio G5 - 9850H/16/256GB (Permanently docked) Precision m4800 - 4800MQ/8/512GB/K1100 (Current machine)

I plan on installing debian or ubuntu, and I was wondering where I can find wifi drivers for this machine, as this laptop has a "proprietary" wifi card. I might swap it out with a newer intel 6x6 card, but I'd like to try to find the drivers before having to resort to that. Most cards should work out-of-the-box on Linux. In any case, you can find an Intel 802.11ac mPCIe card for cheap (if that's not what it came with) and that will definitely work fine in Linux (Intel contributes drivers for their cards to the kernel). You can even install a newer NGFF Wi-Fi card in the WWAN slot with an adapter, if you don't want to put a mSATA drive there. If you can get NVIDIA Optimus working properly, this thing should have respectable battery life. (That would be Windows only. You need newer GPUs to use Optimus on Linux.) 1 Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) • Dell Precision 7560 (work) • Full specs in spoiler block below Info posts (Windows) — Turbo boost toggle • The problem with Windows 11 • About Windows 10/11 LTSC Spoiler Apple MacBook Pro 16-inch, 2023 (personal) M2 Max 4 efficiency cores 8 performance cores 38-core Apple GPU 96GB LPDDR5-6400 8TB SSD macOS 15 "Sequoia" 16.2" 3456×2234 120 Hz mini-LED ProMotion display Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 99.6Wh battery 1080p webcam Fingerprint reader Also — iPhone 12 Pro 512GB, Apple Watch Series 8 Dell Precision 7560 (work) Intel Xeon W-11955M ("Tiger Lake") 8×2.6 GHz base, 5.0 GHz turbo, hyperthreading ("Willow Cove") 64GB DDR4-3200 ECC NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB Storage: 512GB system drive (Micron 2300) 4TB additional storage (Sabrent Rocket Q4) Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2021 15.6" 3940×2160 IPS display Intel Wi-Fi AX210 (Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3) 95Wh battery 720p IR webcam Fingerprint reader Previous Dell Precision 7770, 7530, 7510, M4800, M6700 Dell Latitude E6520 Dell Inspiron 1720, 5150 Dell Latitude CPi
MELOCODI
So I have some horrible news guys. I have ordered an empty M4800 LA-9772P for 15 Euro (no CPU, GPU, RAM, storage, screen). I moved all of those things from my main machine, and installed some eDP screen from Lenovo for now. Because the new frame was untouched and wasn't worn in - that custom GPU heatsink from cicichen went in very snuggly, which I should l have noticed straight away. It tore a ceramic capacitor out of a T1000. Another pin from i7 4980HQ went missing, I guess it stayed in my old motherboard's socket. Laptop tries to boot into windows but fails, it had a WHEA BSOD before. I tried to salvage some pins from an old Socket M Pentium and now it goes to the login screen and shuts down. I may try to help you both with capacitor and cpu pin. About 4xxx series not needing 4G, where from you got info ? Did anyone already succeed with 3xxx series ? Previously I thought for those to work it needs only correct vBIOS, but I saw many post with people trying make it work, but always they had some kinds of driver errors, etc. I myself do not tried it. In my opinion, for above Turing cards to work with our motherboards we need few things, firstly correct settings in UEFI, correct INF file moded, at least Ivy Bridge chipsets, appropriate hardware signals needed for card to POST.. and my bet is to use dGPU only laptops. Every laptop OEM have very different approach to how internal screen works with both iGPU and dGPU. And it also depends how oem had written motherboard software, which may be another obstacle. I looked at PC game benchmarks, 3770k with rtx 4080 for example, downloaded bios update file, checked it with UefiTool, voila! Firmware from 2014 have 4G Decoding option.
