I don't have WoW, but here's this. CP2077 4K w/ RT and PT SOTR 4K w/ Highest Graphics settings Looks like I need to do something about the memory temperatures. The memory chips must need thicker pads. The core max is 61°C but the memory junction is 90°C. But, it runs 3350+ on core with no issues. (I have not tried higher than that.)

Opened the box. The 4 small foams in each corners saved the inner box. And as you should know... Asus offer cheapo glossy thin cardboard boxes. There is no class with Asus. They go cheap where they can. Even for their flagship products. The box that come with the HOF is 100 times better. It's just a box... But I'm an collector and prefer to take good care of all my products and in an nice box. Cheap or expensive doesn't matter. A good quality box should be minimum to ask for when you pay this amount money for flagship cards... And for the records... I would be equal happy with a 10 years card. But what I don't like... Pay xx80 prices for xx60 tier cards. Hence you'll never see me buy brand new cards from mid tier class. The 5090 Astral looks like a small xx70 class card vs the monstrous creature 4090 HOF. Hmmm. Nope. It increased the value. Crocs ain't cheap here home😁 And it's time jou buy a pair. And in black😎 What reduce the value of an Asus Astral 5090.... Huang's autograph on the card. Hmmm. Loads of 5070's in the retail here. Every single of them is massively overpriced. The so called market don't work. Gigabyte 5070 at $871.65 without tax. Or better say close to 59% above the MSRP. Grabbed the ASUS GeForce RTX 5090 ROG Astral LC OC - $2,966.35 USD today. 1 out of 3 card was available for the whole scandinavian market (4 countries). Next delivery of 5090 cards from the retail shops... Unknown. Loads of 5070's is ofloaded today here home. And a few 5070Ti and 5080. I see there is still 3 out of 10 pc of Asus 5080 Astral OC available for purchase here home now 6.5 hour after the slip. $1660 USD. I think Asus have reached the limits what they can sell their 5080 flagship for right now. I doub't they increase the prices in the pace they have done. And no other brands 5080 is listed yet you can buy Asus 5080 cards. That speak loudly about the price point Asus want. As a side note... Gigabyte want $1730 for their best 5080. Not sure what's up with Gigabyte this gen cards. The cards should be delivered to Papusan's plaza within the next 5-7 days. And exactly the card I tried to buy.

I GOT IT!!!! RTX 5090FE on the way! Man, the support of this community and trust of this forum and also overclock.net is pure astounding. I was able to get the funds together and secure my order for a 5090FE at $1,999. Paying more than $1,999 is too much for me. This is very reasonable. Looking back now, I originally had a budget of $2,800 range. Anyways, I think Nvidia saw how much I was hating on them, and they sent the email to see if I’d still bend over for them 😂 (I did of course)

My impression is this is better than average. I haven't finished tuning for the PBO profile, but it is definitely WAY BETTER than the CPU installed in the Gene. Once I delid this and go bare die in an Apex mobo I think it will be even better. I think I am pushing the limits of this EK CR360 Dark AIO. See PBO settings below. I will see if I can take the Curve Optimizer higher than 25/20 sometime tomorrow. Right now it is not far off from my manual overclock with fixed core ratios. I am still working on trying to figure out the B850 Gigabyte AORUS Elite board. The behavior is very different than the Gene or the Cabron. I am starting to figure it out, but haven't gotten as far as memory fine tuning yet. This is just the XMP profile with tREFI maxed out and tFAW set to the bottom value available in the BIOS (20). I bumped the voltage from 1.450V to 1.550V. Even though it's got some degree of weirdness to it, I am actually more impressed with this B850 AORUS board than I expected to be. I was not very happy initially, but it was because I was struggling with getting things tuned because of the very different behavior/response to BIOS settings compared to what works on the Gene and the Cabron before it.

keep us posted on the SP ratings for both your 9950X cpus, im highly interested. i was literally SHOCKED when i saw the load temps on my stock lidded 9950X3D with CB2024 and CB R23... 200W package load maxed out at a measly 76C, with average temps even lower. at first i thought i mightve messed something up with the fan settings in bios after upgrading, but nope...it is just THAT much colder, absolutely insane. my 7950X easily broke 90C, sometimes creeping up to 94-95C depending on the ambient temps. delidding and swapping out the IHS should result in craaaaazy OC headroom, both for CPU and RAM 🙂

Not the best quality and not a youtuber, but good info from Walton. My best guess... Forget many 5090's at MSRP within it's life cycle. Lower end cards, sure you will see them at MSRP. But AI and scalpers will pick up any 5090's they will find. Export them over to China is also profitable even if prices is well above MSRP. Nvidia's "partners" around in Asia/China will for sure help with needed vram packages. Edit.... 5090@+48GB GDDR7 will be very capable graphics cards for AI workloads. There are lots and lots of casual gamers. A lot more than those that refer to themselves as "hardcore gamer" (LOL). They use cheap parts and turn down settings, and they are pleased to no end to get 60 FPS at 1080p. Probably the majority. They have RGB so they pretend it is awesome even when it is not. No idea if it is accurate, but what I have heard is they overclock pretty well, but performance does not scale and actually might see some regression in performance without a loss of stability.

Those on controlled budgets can only spend so much and they will continue to find the best solution that fits within their budget. This is why even generations ago, mid tier and below class cards dominate and will continue to dominate. We live in a bubble in this thread not realizing how good we have it overall. Go to just about any Joe Gamer and talk about dropping $1k+ on a gaming GPU let alone $2k+ for a gaming GPU and they look at you like you're nuts. Most gamers just want to load up games and play and have no problems adjusting settings (or letting the game adjust to their hardware) and playing. They don't measure fps or benchmark or tune systems. They slap in a card (or have a place slap it in for them or buy a pre-built) and just use their computers as is. I do agree with you the ASP will continue to increase simply because inflation and costs continue to increase and companies will not give up their profits in any way, shape or form unless demand sharply decreases. I would argue though most gamers are more than happy with their mid tier purchases. And the last three cycles have shown us, and will again when all is said and done, that the 060/070 cards will dominate in market share.

I think now is the time to show off this RTX 3080. Who would have thought that this 12 year old M18xR2 would stretch its wings so far. I may try RTX 4090 in the future but its pricey. CPU score will be low because it's an old 4-core. I didn't bother going over 4.5Ghz since the 3080 is a 115w TDP model so won't help it much. Looks like I am the lone ranger on 9070 XT 3DMark 11 benching at the moment. The fact that the 9070 XT can handle these ray traced benchmarks without it turning into a slide show is a huge step forward for AMD. These scores are beating 3090 and 6900 XT scores soundly, and those were on chilled water. So I scored a Gigabyte 9070xt from BB that was delivered today. With discounts and rewards = $739 after tax. Not doing back flips over this one, but could be much worse. Can't wait to dig in on this one next week and run some tests with WoW in my known testing spots to see how it fairs against the 5080 and 4090 data. ---- I also snagged an Astral 5090 on BB Total price after rewards and discounts = 3403.46. Seriously on the fence about this one, lol. If the 10850k is your best CPU, that has to be the benching rig CPU with hopefully decent (>=3600) DDR4 sticks. I can't see regressing to a 9700F for a benching rig but that's just me. And it starts..... The march to an EK block..... 🤣

Well, I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the Montech AIR 903 MAX for the work PC build. It's not awesome like the Antec C8 or Lian Li Dynamix XL EVO, but for the price it's great. Very affordable. The 140mm fans (four included) are pushing more air than I imagined they would and run very quiet. The Montech Metal 120 fans I used to replace the EK AIO fans are also insane. They seem very well made, have solid performance specs. The only thing they lack is a unified design that connects them together. But, the RGB and fan cable are combined into one (very nice) and only split apart at the connector ends. Here are some pics. The one thing that Montech didn't do right is the same stupid issue most cases have. The space above and behind the motherboard needs to be greater. Above the motherboard there it only has enough room for thin radiators and push fans. No way you can install fat radiators and push/pull. That sucks, but I understand "normal" is their target market and gamerboy AIOs is what 99% of their customers are going to be installing. So, since I am using a gamerboy AIO for this application it's OK. It would NOT be OK with a custom loop. It feels like the entire PC industry is deliberately leaving overclocking enthusiasts up the creek with no paddle with fewer and fewer options to build something we can be proud of. Behind the motherboard tray it would be nice to have an extra 15-30mm of space. I got the cable management done without a bulge in the side panel, but man it sure was tight. The gamerboys get all hot and bothered by the case taking up too much space. I think (maybe) I have figured things out with the Gigabyte B850 board. Definitely seems like a firmware issue with voltage control. Setting manual voltage does not seem to function correctly and pushes way too much voltage to the CPU no matter what I set it for and regardless of the LLC settings. Even if I use maximum vdroop it goes up to 1.400V in Cinebench. I have to use "Auto" with a negative offset to pull it back down to a reasonable voltage level. At any rate, Cinebench scores are right up there with the Gene and Carbon at less than half the cost. And, I can use all three PCIe x16 slots without the GPU getting emasculated to PCIe 5.0 x8. And, this CPU is better than the one in the Gene. It can handle 2200 FCLK. The other 9950X won't boot at 2200. It caps out at 2175. I am going to have the check the SP rating and see how it works on an ASUS mobo that has better voltage control. That will have to wait for another day. I'll likely wait until the APEX drops and then delid it.

Only 5% slower at 1440p and 4k vs 5070ti is fantastic. Once MSRP normalizes (and it will at this tier sooner than later), the 9070xt is just an absolute banger of a card. AMD marketshare and sales have been bonkers so far overall with the 9070xt. Ugh crocs, how to completely lower the value of an Asus Astral 5090 from ~$3500 to 0....... 😂

I have no desire for any other cards except the FE, Suprim or Astral aka small, medium and large in pricing choices. AMD did say they made gains in RT with RDNA4 and they weren't lying. It flat out beats the 7900xtx while also being within respectable distance of it with raster. Bring on the 9070xtx w/ 24GB for "$749.99" ---------------------------- Oh, and MSI 18" Raider is now $5099.99 for the 9950HX3D w/ 5090.... Looks like they did away with the Steelseries KB too so might have to run their Mystic Light software.....eww.

Yes. Pretty respectable at 4K and with RT on as well. Something AMD has always struggled with. This GPU was less than half the price of my "inexpensive" Gigabyte 4090. Although 4090 is clearly better, it is not scaling with price and is not giving double the performance. It's roughly one-third the price of what I paid for the 4090 Suprim. It's nice you can finally run ray tracing on a red card without it collapsing into a nasty-looking slide show.

damn thats crazy, right smack between the 3090 Ti and 4090, talk about bang per buck! dude, congratz! im jealous, although the stream of 5090s available for purchase has been quite constant recently, MSI cards are few and far between. most of them are basic zotac / gainward / palit cards, which i have zero interest in. and the few MSIs are either ventus / gaming trio or the liquid SOC. the only place im seeing the air cooled SOC is on ebay, ugh... im like you in this regard, when spending such a huge amount of money i damn well sure get the card i actually want! anyways, my 9950X3D will be arriving tomorrow, so thats nice at least 🙂

Hmm. Not many newer cards is priced around $600 or below. And it has been like this a long time. Retailers selling base model RX 9070 GPUs at 22% markup compared to MSRP — 9070 XT now typically starts at $799

They're catching a lot of flack and ridicule from every direction, as they should. They've had plenty of recent missteps and failures. So, I suspect they want 4090 owners buying the 5090 for publicity, maybe hoping for demonstration what they believe will be a massive upgrade (extra fake frames and software wizardry give that appearance) so that owners of 4090 will post about publicly. I suspect this is an entirely self-serving marketing strategy for them to whatever extent it is relevant. I think it would be naive for any of us to believe for a minute it has something to do with caring about what PC enthusiasts want, or believing that there is any degree of merit or value they place on us. Some of them might care a little bit, but their primary focus is generating revenue from business-facing clientele. We are kind of like a side job for them to tinker with to avoid boredom. Probably the primary thing they value from PC enthusiasts is positive publicity. They do not get any free advertisements from their business clientele. Black, thankfully. Have a look at the images. So I think being an enthusiast increases your chances. Many of the people selected owned a RTX 4090, 4090 laptop, previously owned a 3090, 2080, 1080. Nvidia can see all of our hardware history and gaming activity. So, I truly believe Nvidia is selecting real hardware enthusiast lol.

I thought about trying a 9950X3D. Between the increased latency of the registered memory, limit of around 5.2ghz on air for the 2495x, and the fact that some of my encoding jobs do not scale above 8 cores I was thinking about trying a 9950X3D instead. It would probably be a better chip for WoW given what @electrosoft mentioned with his 9800X3D the other day. Honestly even the tuned Raider 18 felt smoother in WoW with the 7945HX3D paired with the 4090m. Right now is not a great time to build anything though as I am traveling for the next couple of weeks..

So I've been playing a good amount of WoW and FO76 on the 9800X3D + 5080 tuned up. The dip is gone. Completely gone. None, nada, zilch. Desktop responsiveness and game smoothness is beyond smooth. Raids are rock solid at Ultra 10 RT enabled 4k. I'm just going to admit it that I'm liking the x870e Hero more than my x670e Carbon. I love MSI, but this one is a solid win for Asus. The one thing the MSI could do was handle DR sticks better though. While I had tuned my memory before on the 7800X3D and 7950X3D, this time around I went beast mode on it and with all the extra time it sat in my test bench case, I tuned it to the next level and threw in some Karhu for extra measure at 2200/6400 along with a standard frequency OC so it is hitting ~5450 gaming. When I get time, I'm going to re-test/tune for fun at 8000+ on these TG sticks + I plan on taking this route with the MSI Raider and tuning. ---- With the 14900KS in the wife's system, like mine I gave it a complete breakdown and cleaning, new paste, and the SP109 14900KS has the same properties as my golden 12900K cool hand luke and is able to run at LLC1 no problem in the Z690 D4 Strix unlike the delidded 12900k I had in there (golden stock lid 12900K is in my NH55). As a result, after the cleaning, tuning, her system is running quieter with the SP109 14900KS than with the delidded 12900k and boosting to 6.2 on top of that in WoW while not hitting more than ~1.4v and staying below 70c on an EVGA 280mm AIO. Re-tuned the UV on the Strix 3080 and with the repaste + shoring up the pads it is making zero noise playing WoW too outside of a touch of coil whine on the Focus 1000w which can be heard since everything else is running so quiet. The Mrs has said it more than once now how quiet her system is when using it in general and gaming especially. Both systems are running stupidly quiet and when gaming all I hear are low levels of fans on the 5080 if the room is completely silent. With speakers on their normal gaming volume (not super loud), I hear nothing. --- I was going to sell off my spare components (12900k, Asrock Z790i Lightning, couple sets of DDR5, numerous 980 Pro drives, etc...) but my daughter and her fiance broke up and she has reclaimed their spare room (he wrecked it) and wants to turn it into her dedicated office/computer room and a dedicated desktop computer so the next project is to gut it, lay new carpet and a fresh coat of paint then build her a new desk, new gaming system and build out some new custom shelves. ---- 5090 Astral is officially $3359.99 = ~$3600 w/ tax for me. The whole thing is just stupid. There is and was no reason for NVIDIA to deploy this garbage connector. To see two AMD AIB partners using it on Radeon cards merely reinforces that the people making decisions are inept and incompetent and shouldn't even be allowed to decide what to eat for dinner. Their inability to make sound decisions places us all at risk. This is an extremely bad time for anyone needing to build a new system or replace any parts that have failed outside of warranty. I feel very blessed to not have any compelling need to do anything and with my surplus I don't have to manage anything except for my illogical passionate for computer parts. I think I am going to start trying harder to not care anymore. A better hobby might be growing personal wealth instead of squandering it on poorly engineered overpriced computer trash. I can feel the apathy starting to build. It's not to the level of contempt and apathy I hold for turdbooks, but I could probably get it to that level without a lot of effort.

I've seen peaks of about 486W but gaming loads about 380W on the new setup at the wall. So no stress for my 750W 🙂

DO IT 😄 when at first i got my TX1600 ATX2.4 version I was wondering to myself if i should later upgrade to the ATX3.1 version. i am sooo glad that i didnt. all 8pin goodness on the PSU side, enough wattage for two 12v2x6 connectors, super quiet and efficient and 12 years (or rather 10 left) of warranty. will not need another psu for a long time! i have a wattmeter permanently hooked up to my rig and the highest ive seen thus far was 1125W or 70% of stock psu capacity. i think ill be good even with a 5090 and a 9950X3D in there 🙂
