  1. The latency and bandwidth on the old Xeon 3175X is pure amazing, this helps it maintain here in 2024 and drive a 4090 😃 This latency is better than most setups today, and very comparable to modern "Fully tuned" CPUs. I can run these same settings with the FULL 128GB of ram as well. Though, it does affect the active channels reducing bandwidth because 8x16 is an odd number of sticks for this platform. Which is why I run 6x16Gb config of DDR4 Samsung B-Die for now. I will be adding another (4) sticks for a total of (12x16GB) sticks then I can properly run the Hexa channel with all ram slots filled and it won't be an odd number. G.Skill did produce a 384Gb 12X32Gb DDR4 4000CL17 kit for this motherboard lol. I'd love to find one of those kits. Would probably cost like an insane amount of money though.
  2. Was wondering as well. I guess he got his CPU early before launch day. I just hope his benchmark results aren't redacted also. 😁
  3. One area where these chips are weaker is, doing things on the desktop like work apps running, and then going to play some games at the same time. The 285K chip would really need everything closed out on the desktop for best absolute performance in games, maybe even a quick restart. There are only 8 P-Cores. Anything moderately intensive running on the desktop or in the background will tie these cores up for sure. I know this all too well, because I run a gazillion apps at once, and go play games simultaneously while I am waiting on one of my agents to join a meeting or I'm just killing time in general. The 285K only has "24 threads" so definitely. All of this makes me really miss the old days of hardware. MOAR COREZ era lol.
  4. The Wifi on this Dominus is beastly! Not sure why, but I am hitting 1Gbps in steam downloading games which is really great. But I do have some issues with the Bluetooth working on the Dominus Extreme. I have re-installed Windows, tried multiple different BT/Wifi drivers, gone through device manager adding new drivers, uninstalling/re-installing etc, and I cannot get BT working for the life of me. It's enabled in the bios, and I can see it pick up a device like my Xbox controller in Windows 11, but I cannot actually pair the Xboxcontroller. It just says something like "Device failed to connect" Been at this for about a day now lol. Any ideas? Anyone ever had this happen to them? I am thinking of just pulling the Wifi/BT 9260 off the board all together, and putting a different one in. I feel like I have tried it all. EDIT: This is a nice 4.6Ghz run on all cores. Still very good CPU temps. Power is 528 watts MAX. I really love this 3175X its really a sweet chip. 😍
  5. I use a regular Windows 11 Pro “Full retail install” I had to buy it about 6 months ago. I love the lite Windows that are available, but I stopped using them a while back. I noticed memory stability issues with some of them, and also certain work apps that I need won’t work for me. Instead of trouble shooting each app, I just went back to a regular windows 11 Pro install and I will disable or remove most of the stuff I don’t need or use.
  6. I’m finally resetting Windows. There are about 300 running services too many for me on my current OS lol. This is an old Windows maybe like 1 year old now. I have used it for work, benching, gaming, modding, creating, and breaking, and fixing things all in one OS. Not to mention the CPU/RAM/platform swaps. Nothing quite like a fresh OS. You get all that storage space back that you could never find. 🤣
  7. Just typical Asus and their poor QA. Two resistors were literally soldered on backwards lol. Not the first batch, but later batches had this issue apparently. When the boards were sent in for repair they were showing up in warmer environments for repair. And the problems were completely hidden inside repair facilities (“Asus repair would say “nothing wrong with motherboard send back”) I can only assume since the ambient temps were probably warmer. Consumers could not fire their systems in their cooler homes, then the customer would think it must be my CPU that is dead, let me spend another $3,000 and send this W3175X back 🤯This little mistake caused many to think their boards or CPU’s were broken with Code 00 showing CPU as the problem lol. One quick blast with some warm air will fire it up. Instead people were tearing down their rigs and sending parts for exchange/repair. It was a bad experience I can only imagine. Wendell from Level1Tech who discovered this issue is still running his W3175X system. The person to blame is definitely Asus. Because the Dominus was the most popular choice. The Aorus C621 Extreme has less than #50 motherboards made, they made some more with a total of less than #100 retail boards in the wild, only they were without any issues with this to report. SR3 Dark came later, no issues either as far as I know. This cold bug was also present on some Asus Rampage Extreme X99/X299 boards and other boards too. ( Asus Quality Assurance at its finest) the good news is though, I don’t think this platform has any actual issues other than the cold bug. Any others problems are gonna be user error, throwing in random ram, and also improper cpu installation. People were not reading the manual and guessing on which 8 pin/24 pin connectors to plug in. As for my setup, I can only go by what I experience. Not a single crash, no problems other than the cold bug I already knew about. 🤗 I believe it to be more stable than LGA1700 so far. PS: No cold bug today. I just turned my rig on. 😎
  8. Absolutely. Got to blow some warm air to fire the old beast up on those cold mornings. I may try the other Dominus and see if it has the cold bug as well, or just fix it since I have the parts, but honestly it doesn’t even bother me enough to care, if it did it everytime then yeah, that’d be annoying. It seems to be only when it’s cold and only after slitting all night. I’ve got this thing tuned up great though.
  9. I am sure this could be better. My OS is starting to show its age. I just checked task manager after checking latency, and I have 328 services running on my Windows 11 Pro. 🙃
  10. Just did some stability testing with 6x16GB DDR4 3800CL14 with 1.500V (3800CL14 at 1.500V is top-notch binned I think) This is perfectly stable on Air cooling, but it did require a fan to pass this test of course. This setup with no fans will error out in 2.5 minutes flat lol. With a fan it runs perfectly FINE! I don't technically need to water cool the rams, but I hate fans blowing on things like that, it becomes a dust master 3000, so I will definitely try to water-cool the rams! PS: 1usmus takes forever with all of this ram.
  11. Are the DDR5 timings the same on AMD as they are on Intel? What sort of tREFI do you run on this platform?
  12. I am not sure actually. I’ll check though. This is my temporary cold bug fix. The cold bug only happens once each day on the very first boot-up from the PC sitting all night/morning. 🤣 https://youtu.be/K_JCVLR9YDw?si=bXkyX9OeqrYFO_2B
  13. Okay Okay. IT IS TIME! I wanted to make sure this system was reliable before doing any overclocking at all! Nothing weird has happen with it. The thing is 100% SOLID. This is an older system so who really knows how this may or may not run lol. I wanted to be certain it did not freeze, crash, close to desktop, BSOD at all while running completely stock first. I am only using (1) power supply, it requires two power supplies for best results. And I am only using (2) of the 8pin power connectors of the (6) 8 pin cpu power connectors on the board. These are pretty tedious platforms; everything should be done "just so" from the research I did. You need a 12 inch pound torque wrench for the CPU installation, it must be torqued in the exact pattern. I re-did my thermal paste today, and was worried to death my system would never work right again lol, (This was not the case at all) I had no issues with memory channels dropping, I had no issues with CPU socket pressure. I was only worried about this because apparently Der8auer could never get his HEXA channel working properly with the EKWB WS CPU block lol. Maybe he just didn't follow the sequence is all I can think of. 🤷‍♂️ But with all that being said, and all of the low rated reviews on the Dominus motherboard, it really makes you think you are assembling a piece of unreliable glass that can break at any moment. 🤣 So, I wanted to say the whole process was smooth as butter. I have not had any issues with this system. OC TIME! 4.5Ghz is VERY easy and it does surpass 40K in R23 which is just perfect! DDR5 3800CL14 is also stable. 4.5Ghz on all 28/56 with just a mere 1.135V 😁What a BEAST this thing is! The memory bandwidth is impressive. Minimal tuning was done. I really need to go in and enter manual timings, this is just XMP 3800 for the most part. But with DDR4 I feel like a noob again lol. This Behemoth of a system gives me 56 threads for endless working capabilities. TONS of ram to use and just leave things up and running! And lots of PCI lanes for all the storage I may want to add down the road. The CPU is not delidded, it is a stock retail 3175X. Which is exactly what I hunting for. A lot of ES samples and fakes floating around out there, you just don't know what you may get until you get it. 😁
  14. No doubt it’s going to be very fun to tune on, most of these systems are. I’m not really sure how the 285K will stack up. I think all that matters is having fun! Something new to play with.
  15. 14900KS with APO is definitely killer. I truly believe it’s probably gonna hang with the newer stuff. The 3175X is stout and working well though. 4K with 4090 is no problem. This 3175X does have a very very good default boosting algorithm. It has a frequency in mind from 2 cores active all the way to 28 cores active.
  16. That’s an awesome case! I need something big like that. @electrosoft This thing completely stock with Intel Default power limits in place is throwing that 4090 around pretty good. I was a little surprised. The cpu power consumption is sub 40 watts in game. 🤷‍♂️
  17. Dominus+3175X+128GB Samsung B-Die is ALIVE!!!! Same OS and everything LOL. I love it! I did not experience a cold bug at all. XMP 3200c14 loaded on all 128GB very first try. 😎
  18. I always wanted to build one of these. Something about these huge Monolithic CPU’s is awesome and those big motherboards lol. I almost went with W790, I was doing some extreme bargain hunting lol. I had found a brand-new Asrock W790 2.0 for $599.99 on eBay (It was stripped though with no WiFi/BT, very minimalistic I/O being the cheaper 2.0 model, and still $100 over MSRP So I just didn’t love it) then I saw a used Xeon W2465X for $700 dollars. Then I was going to get a 4x16GB DDR5 6000 kit I found for about $279.99. Something about the allure of the Dominus board just reeled me right in though. I do plan to build a W790 in the near future. I’m taking a break from mainstream sockets for a while. I just don’t have any interest in them lately. I am going to piece my W790 build together slowly. These are really expensive, and I felt like I was rushing and I was going to potentially order whatever just to piece together a running system for as cheap as possible.
  19. Yeah I can’t wait for this one. You know, we are waiting on another Metro game too. But apparently they are delayed since the war that’s happening in Ukraine. I read some where that the Devs of this game grabbed some AK’s and went out to go fighting in this war 🤣 and or they live in Ukraine. Not sure if this is true or not. It was a Reddit post after all. Stalker 2 is next month though. VERY SOON. I have been waiting for this one for a LONG time.
  20. What game are you talking about? I’m waiting on these titles very very ANXIOUSLY. KDC2 Stalker 2. Cant wait!
  21. My 3175X will be here tomorrow. I’m curious to see this Dinosaur build drive a 4090 at 4K. Very interesting system that’s for sure. I’m planning to get an Alta F2 case and house the system in that. Just a shame these cases are so freaking expensive. It’s really the perfect case though.
  22. Currently using a M1 MacBook for my work directly from the La-Z-Boy 💻 😆 but I do still have a 13900KS/Z690 Hero/DDR5 handy that can be used in a pinch. But I’m going to be using this Dominus/3175X/128GB Bdie daily as a work play PC. I’m going to throw it on the test bench temporarily for setup and tuning purposes, and order a big boy case very soon that can house all of it. It does have native U.2 ports, so I can actually use my Intel Optane. I had this adapter which didn’t work at all, it had a sata power and a M.2 dongle all wired together to a U.2 plug. My idea is to have a main work PC that’s ultra quiet and ultra reliable all in a case. This will be the daily go to for gaming and work etc. And I will have the test bench ready for whatever maybe Z890, or since I’m skipping that then probably Z990. We’re about to see some extreme CPU bottleneck with the 4090 on this Dominus/3175X. 😎 It should be able to chug 4K at least.
  23. So good news. I ended up finding a real retail Xeon W3175X. I traded my Z790 Apex A04 for a complete HEDT system. I traded my Apex Z790, and (2x24GB) 8200 ram kit, SC ram block, lga1700 waterblock, and 360mm AIO. For a Asus Dominus motherboard, 3175X retail CPU, EKWB WS waterblock, EKWB DOMINUS VRM block, and 192GB of some poopy DDR4. I will have (2) Dominus boards. The only thing wrong with this system is, it needs a hair dryer to fire up, or just hold your finger on the SMD to warm it a couple seconds then it fires, most don’t know which exact SMD it is, so they just use a hair dryer blowing in the general area, very limited info on this subject, apparently this happen with prior X99/X299 Extreme boards as well (That’s Asus for ya lol). But, it actually includes the replacement SMD to fix this. So I will fix the cold bug my self once I get a magnifying glass so I can see what I’m soldering. I thought it was a really great trade.
