It really is. Regardless of what (4) Dimm Z890 options are released, these new Z890 (4) Dimm boards shouldn’t have any trouble with DDR5 8600 or even DDR5 9000 and will probably be comparable or better than all of the Z790 (2) Dimm boards. This is what happens with Z690 going to Z790. -

I’m going to buy the cheapest one available. Probably Tachyon. Or Asrock. I know MSI and their $2,000 GodLike even more expensive than the Asus Extreme. That new Unify-X is gonna be PRICEY! Probably $799 for Unify-X, and $879 for Apex. The Asrock probably $629.99 and Tachyon most likely $699.99 since their last one was already $599.99. (I know right, only $49.99 cheaper than a Apex Encore 😂 and it wasn’t nearly as good so now that they have Kingpin it’s gonna be outrageously high price) maybe do like EVGA did. Laser print his signature on in gold pen the box and sell for $99 more 😆 -

Now that I think about it, I really think this is when MSI needs to launch the Mpower series boards. I hope so anyways. Z890/ two dimm slots/ and $200 something dollars. Honestly, even $379 would be kind of affordable/reasonable. The only thing about moving away from Asus is we won’t know the SP rating or VID‘S. But I guess that doesn’t matter much anyways. -

I hope they don’t try to kill us on board prices this go around with Z890/LGA1851. $649.99 for Apex Z790 Encore was already steep. Some retailers even had it for like $619.99 Central Computers. This is almost like artificial inflation lol. It’s gonna end up forcing me over to AMD 9950X3D (I’ll jump ship if I have to, don’t want to but if Z890 Apex is $849 that’s silly) LOL. Or I’ll have to buy another random 14900KS close my eyes and cross my fingers and hopefully get something like what I just mailed to @Mr. Fox today. That chip had a really great memory controller. And I’ll just hang on to my Z790 Apex. I have not ran an AMD chip since AMD 64 and Venice socket 939. Another option is MSI UNIFY-X Z890, so long as MSI doesn’t try to price it crazy as well, it’ll probably be even more feature packed then Apex lol. 😆 -

That laptop has a body like a Backhoe 100%, and this referenced video is definitely kinda disturbing lol. 😂 -

I miss the old laptop days when you could get a desktop cpu. And also SLI. Was really really cool. -

Yep! 11th gen was really cool. 9900K with 8/16 could not hold a candle to 11900K with 8/16. The platform will ultimately only be as good as how the media/youtube perceives it. Many won’t upgrade though. Some people resist through several generations and hold off until they see gains like what a RTX5090 will give us over a RTX4090. I need to be like those people. It’s hard to resist for me though. Especially when the new motherboards start pouring in on Newegg, and new chips, new ram. So I’m gonna try to avoid it all. The worst temptation is going be Z890 Apex for me. Also, I have the Optane 905P drive. I haven’t even actually gotten to use it. I’m going to have to remove my 4090 so I can pull the motherboard m.2 heatsink/cover to plug it in to a normal Gen4 M.2. I tried to run it through the Dimm2 using an U.2 to M.2 ribbon cable and it wasn’t detected in Windows for some reason. -

It might surprise us, but now I’m hearing rumors LGA1851 is a single launch cpu socket only which is also discouraging. May just be a rumor at this point though. We have to see how it does in gaming though I suppose. Maybe it’s got some hat trick in waiting. But even this 13900KS is a real slayer in gaming lol. And I feel the improvements are not tangible at all. I think the biggest improvements are chipset related. Like Gen5+ M.2, and things like that. I battle with CPU usage in titles as well lately, I’m replaying some older games, even demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 and RDR2. The 4090 is just a monster bro. While we don’t need a 5090, at least it will give us something to use now or use later for the money spent, it’s gonna blow our hair back with or without a fps counter to even notice. So, I’m going to jump on the 5090 straight away. 😎 The PS5 Pro also looks pretty good for $699.99. May put one in my living room at the new house. -

Hey Intel, 285K! My name is Intel too. But what are you doing down here with me? 😁 -

I want to go for it, but it really is an expensive addiction. (This is my thought process lately) First comes the motherboards. Am I going to be lucky enough to buy 1 motherboard and be done? Maybe or probably 🤞 Then the CPU’s, am I binning this go around or are we buying two or just one or three lol? lol. Last but not least, we got to get some fresh new rams for the fresh new platform! Oh but wait, “Newer new rams will also be out every in 2-3 months to replace these already new rams” so don’t spend too much money on the first set. 🫠 ^ With all of that being said and me being so damn obsessed, am I ready to do all that again, just for a refresh platform to launch in 12 months from now 😤 SIGN ME UP!!! Kidding lol. I honestly might skip and just run my 14900KS. I am however really really looking forward to the RTX5090, and I plan to buy a nice 5090. Intel 285K is nice I’m sure, but these initial performance results look weak though right? It’s just “NEW” and that’s what we’re paying for it feels like. I wish I could see some more concrete info on its performance. -

7900XTX is pretty dang good for rasterization performance honestly. I do like the Red Devil. Especially a Liquid Devil model 🤤 They are limited in VR gaming reliability, and RT performance. But if that doesn’t matter That looks pretty nice! I think I’m ready for a normal case build. I’ve been on years of test bench now, and chilled water daily, a loud and open build all the time. So I think I’m going to give all of that a rest. Use a normal rad in a normal case, and build a more simple setup. If I hate it, I’ll go back to extreme mode lol. -

Do you have any experience with a Non-K Intel CPU’s? Do they allow memory overclocking at all. Like if I had a regular 13900 could I enable XMP? Or set the ram speed? -

Anyone see this Silverstone Alta F2 case? OMG.. 😱 it is so cool!! I was around PC building when Silverstone made the best cases in history. I loved the 90 degree rotation, and the Air penetrator fans blowing air directly up! Even has room for pumps in the bottom, and large rads if needed on bottom or top. It’s $859 which is INSANE lol. I’d still buy it. I really love it! I’m thinking of doing a case build everyone. -

It is kinda expensive. If I can get a good deal for both pieces, I will get one though. 99% of the cases out there right now just don’t work for me looks/function wise etc. I just want something basic that rolls, or has enough room for pumps, or if I ever want to mount some rads I could do that as well. I started building PC’s when I was 14 years old in 2004. And I still remember browsing as a teenager on Newegg back then at cases, and practically every single case was appealing to me I wanted them all haha lol. Those days are long gone though. Thermaltake ran the roost back then though. Same time period when NZXT first hit the scenes. -

@Mr. Fox I been browsing. And I think this might work for me. It’s a Thermaltake W100 case which is large and has wheels already, and it has a separate pedestal which can house pumps/rads/ secondary PSU. I really want a case that I can just build my PC in, then have room to house (6) D5 pumps inside the case. Not many options available lol. Thats why I love my test bench, it can hold so many pumps. Since this case has a pedestal attachment available. Could install a PSU inside this pedestal, power all of my pumps, and the actual case portion would house no water cooling parts at all lol. You can add two of the pedestals and make is HUGE. And they can go on the top or bottom. -

I’ve got to say, it was a good long run on LGA 1700 and I started late skipping 12th Gen completely lol! LGA1200 launched in 2020, and LGA1700 launched in 2021 🤣. LGA1851 is launching in 2024 😎 Maybe Intel will run 1851 even longer!! (3 years minimum like lga1700 is good ) (4 years for lga1851 would be even better) LGA1700 has been great though. I never personally had too much difficulty with degradation. Had a 13900KS pulling down about 400 watts just earlier today. But I really do hope that Intel gets better. If we look back on the early days for Intel. Which I guess was 1989 when Intel launched their 8086 chip? Anyways, Intel has not released that many sockets. I think it’s less than 13 or 14 sockets since 1989 unless I’m missing some. I guess it would take some serious planning ahead to make a platform socket run for 4-5+ years. -

I don’t really know how Intel is going to do with this new gen cpu. It seems like the new 285K is about as fast as a stock 14900KS in R23/R24 Cinebench. So, absolutely no gains in compute I guess. I’m thinking this is kinda like Intel 11th gen all over again? We get 20-25% less threads, and similar multithreaded performance, and slightly better single threaded performance, 11th gen had massive single thread gains. I’m not sure if we will see that here again or what to expect with these new chips, I saw some specific applications where they were like 36% faster in V-Ray bench and some other random situations that is not gaming and is not Cinebench lol. I did also hear the silicon quality is very consistent/tight between the chips though, so that’s good, but also just a rumor as well that early testers are speaking of saying their chips were all similar. I feel like hanging on to a 14900KS this generation might just prove to be the smartest move. Im sure the platform Z890 in 2 years from now will absolutely mop the matured Z790 platform. But, right out of the gate? Probably not. We’ll probably be running something like DDR5 11,000 near the end of Z890’s life span. My favorite comparisons with CPU’s are seeing real-world things ran like (Ashes of Singularity) it seems to show a good improvement with CPU’s and if something may be worthy for a gaming boost. I wish I could how the 285k stacks up vs a 14900KS. -

Yeah that’s a nice setup there. Not really sure how I’ll set mine up, so many things left to do right now, we are currently working on completely sealing under the home, so it will be all white plastic, no dirt, something that will stay completely dry and clean, I am considering placing the tank and chiller underneath the home. It’s gonna be time soon for a full tear down and re-build of the whole system though. Almost time to get ready for next gen parts. This rinse repeat process is getting a little tiring, terrible addiction. If there’s anything I’m really looking forward to, it’s gotta be the 5090 most of all. I’m just not looking forward to the scalper fest that comes with it every launch. Intel 285K cpu Apex Z890 motherboard (Or Unify-X) RTX5080/5090 (Probably a 5090) DDR5 8800+ kit of CKD ram. -

I’m not sure what I’m going to do when I move in to the new house, but I’ve been contemplating building inside of a ATX case. Or maybe I will get a long office table against the wall, so I can place the chiller, tank, test bench all in a row so it looks somewhat neat. -

here the record low volts for 8800 folks lol. (kidding I have no idea what it may be) Im currently testing DDR5 8800c40@1.400v 🤯 The G.Skill 8200 (2x24) kit is absolutely just pure gold is all I can really say. Pure insanity that it can run 8800@1.400v. -

It’s taken years to phase it out. And it’s getting there. These new boards look great though. I don’t even know which one to get? What are you getting, if you get one? (1) Z890 Apex (2) Z890 Unify-X (3) Z890 Tachyon (4) Maybe another option (Asrock loves to price their stuff through the moon lol) -

I really think MSI is gonna kill it this go around with Intel boards. I’ve already seen their (2) Dimm Z890 model floating around. MSI Quality is VERYYYY good. I have a MSI mid level PSU, and I’ve had MSI GPU‘s, all of their stuff is very good. Not a huge fan of AsRock bios, but I’d be willing to learn it for the right (2) Dimm Z890 board. If I had to pick, I’d probably take the gamble and get a Z890 Apex. I’ll cross my fingers and start praying I get a good one. I am actually considering selling my white Apex Z790 A04, and SP108 (14900KS), and the G.Skill 8200 (2x24GB) as a combo very soon. -

Hopefully they will offer a black and white model. Also, It looks like it has two ram options on the new Z890 Tachyon. The regular DDR5 CKD dimms we will see very soon, and also the new style CAMM2 rams! Early motherboards always get surpassed by further designs. I think buying the very best motherboard early on with Z890 and being very picky that we have the best example of it would be worth it. I look back and think about a “good Z690 Apex” which could hold its own right now, so long as it was not a defective one. Hopefully Asus has gotten better with engineering and consistency. My Z790 Apex has been a beast. It still hasn’t reached its limits. If only I could swap it to 1851 socket lol. Glad the Encore is working. To fix the SP, I usually use the other bios switch, then update the bios on the other switch. That should resolve it. Usually happens to me when I test a different CPU.
