M17x R3 and PG106 card half way, need help.
panda_zzz replied to Lex_Amorph's topic in Alienware 17 and M17x
Unfortunately, I can't say anything for sure here. I've encountered mining versions of the Turing line and they were supposed to have tensor cores to support rtx technology, but in fact they were not there or they were disabled at a very low level, and it was impossible to enable them with drivers. Maybe you have a similar picture -
M17x R3 and PG106 card half way, need help.
panda_zzz replied to Lex_Amorph's topic in Alienware 17 and M17x
It is quite possible that for your particular graphics chip there are problems with dx12 - all the same on the mining versions of cards go discarded video chips with some reduction of computational blocks. Plus in the generation of Pascal is not full realization of modern requirements of the standard dx12, perhaps Diablo4 like Alan Wake 2 wants full realization. Plus the gp106 graphics chip itself in your graphics card is weaker than in a similar 1060m: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/nvidia-gp106.g797 Well and it is possible that the drivers are not working correctly in some way, and I would advise you to use the 1060m as a template for NVCleanstall, not its stationary version. -
I think if you want minimal modifications and working standard fan control, the best choice is ati|amd card - as already said above 8970M from clevo.

HP Elitebook 8570W - is it still good ? Hardware modifications

Greetings. I'm following your project, although at one time I chose dell m4800 and old alienware as platforms for experimentation). Could you please provide a link regarding possible support for 4G Decoding and ReBar in Coreboot? Because it is a prerequisite to upgrade mxm gpu to Ampere generation.- 98 replies

Then it's definitely time to replace it.
-
Depends on what kind of processor you have, but it may not be enough
-
As I recall you can upgrade your gpu to an AMD 8970M card or if you want nvidia the Kepler generation is 660m-680m

Alienware 17 R1(Haswell) - Tesla M6 upgrade issue
panda_zzz replied to Maks0098's topic in Alienware 17 and M17x
Well, if you managed to flash it with nvflash then no problem - take for warranty version of the program with bypass protection against flashing and flash it on a laptop that sees the video card. as far as I know this is the latest vbios for it: https://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/225011/225011 earlier versions are not desirable -
Alienware 17 R1(Haswell) - Tesla M6 upgrade issue
panda_zzz replied to Maks0098's topic in Alienware 17 and M17x
Tesla M6 should be detected in the bios without problems, at least in my m17x r4 it was fine. However, it can only work in optimus mode because the native bios has no video outputs. As for re-flashing vbios for this card - it doesn't work, even with the chip itself unsoldered. at least I read about it once, but unfortunately I couldn't find the link quickly. -
Greetings. I don't have the laptop you mentioned, but I have some experience with machines on third generation intel cpu, and this particular processor seems to be the one in your laptop (i5-3610ME). Unfortunately for this generation 32 gigs of RAM is only available if you use 4 channels. Your processor does not support more than 2 channels, plus it is soldered into the board, plus there are no additional slots on the motherboard. The dell 3185 laptop you cited is built on a different platform (amd) and uses a different type of memory (ddr4 vs ddr3 in Panasonic) so you can hardly base it on that experience.

unfortunately the processor (without overclocking) in my laptop can't give full load to this video card, so the performance is lower than you indicate. I can assume that these results are due to the cooling system of the laptop on which this test was conducted - lenovo p70, which does not allow a fairly powerful processor and graphics card to work at full power. in your laptop cooling is much better and the problem of trotting does not arise.

M4800 Owner's Thread
panda_zzz replied to unnoticed's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
Just for the reason of making a mistake with the lid, I did not order a new one, but decided to creatively modify the existing one. Unfortunately I didn't take a photo before engraving on the lid, but the scratch itself was quite wide though not deep and visually was in the area of the girl's leg. But two passes of the laser on the lid helped to get rid of it, and the rest I added at will 😇 -
This is a conditional estimate of the performance of the video card in a particular system, which also depends on the processor. Here is the evaluation of firestrike in combination with E3-1505M v5 which is 9087 https://www.notebookcheck.info/NVIDIA-Quadro-M5000M.156221.0.html

The difference between the two processors is 2 generations and yours is almost 2x more powerful than mine 😉 https://technical.city/en/cpu/Core-i7-3610QM-vs-Core-i7-940XM

What should I do if I scratched my laptop cover? Replace the part? Or maybe it's better to get a little creative.... -
I think your comparison doesn't really fit this thread because you have a different laptop with a newer processor😉

I am using windows 7 as my operating system on this laptop, so running time spy is not possible. I don't see the point in upgrading to windows 10 on this laptop) If you want another visual test, here's cyberpunk 2077:

The systems themselves are quite similar. The stock max processors are quite similar, despite the generation difference https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-4940MX-vs-Intel-Core-i7-3940XM/m9756vsm7092 The maximum RAM capacity is the same. However, as far as can be judged from user reviews, the m17x r4 has fewer problems with the latest generations of graphics cards - for some reason the Ranger does not always supply full power to the mxm slot. As a user of m17x r4 I will note some problems with the remnants of the soft touch coating and perhaps only me - hoarse low frequencies in the speakers (although the speakers themselves I changed to new ones from China)

I didn't dare to install the gtx980m in my m15x, and replaced the gtx970m with the m5000m as an upgrade. It feels faster, although due to reduced frequencies the result in firestrike is lower than the last card's result https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/114892760? https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/114929896?

You decide for yourself) yes I agree asus w90 is a rare laptop but essentially I wouldn't say it is fundamentally different from pre-dell M17. The differences are more interesting chipset and support for 3 RAM slots)

Quadra RTX3000 + Intel HD4000 Windows 11 issue.

Maybe it's a problem with the game itself. https://forums.cdprojektred.com/index.php?threads/physx-on-cpu-only.11053112/- 18 replies

Depends on where you want to put this card. If in Dell M15x it will work, if in pre-dell M17 r1 it will not fit physically, because it is a card format MXM 3.0 type B
-
What do you mean? If we are talking about dell alienware M15x (2010) then it works any video card that can display the output via lvds that is max - gtx980m.
