  1. The general case since the 1st generation of Intel mobile i-processors is 8 gigabytes per one slot for a memory module. the differences are in the maximum frequencies of this memory. if the slots are soldered 4, then yes maximum 32 gigabytes. but there are quite a lot of pitfalls from manufacturers, so I described only ideal conditions.
  2. the laptop won't boot up properly. 16 gigabyte ddr3 so-dimm modules do not work on 3-5 generation intel processors
  3. Maybe, although it may be a problem with the graphics card itself. or the combination of the laptop architecture and the graphics card driver. for example on my m15x with gtx970m and windows 10 nvidia drivers newer than 390 I think did not want to work.
  4. what laptop do you have this on? because i have optimus working quite well on relatively fresh drivers on m17x r4 and m4800 (something around 550 version i think).
  5. work the same way, but the limit is different, so it is likely that they can draw different numbers of frames.
  6. I think the problem here is not the display but the fact that intel optimus is used - there are limits to iGPU. If intel optimus was more powerful, you might have more frames. I've seen this on an intel 4600 vs iris 5200 comparison
  7. This is a bad idea in my mind, because under the influence of temperature and being bent it will quickly fail.
  8. Hi. Yes the processor can indeed be upgraded - a reasonable maximum is 4910mq. Putting 4940MX and 4930MX processors is not reasonable, although it is possible with reservations. As for the video card - probably a relatively cheap and affordable option is the nvidia m2200. Of course, you can search for a t1000, but it will cost you a lot more. As for the screen to give advice you need to identify what model you have installed and what type of connection edp or lvds
  9. I used a cheap pcie x1 adapter to initially test the card on the desktop As for the 4000 series, the main problem is to find a bios that will allow to start without 4g decoding support. the original bios from x-vsion allowed it. after trying a couple of them from techpowerup I found out that in most cases it is not. now I am trying to find a working version for 45 watts.
  10. it works, but I don't like that it has 8 pcie lines and also the m17x r4 cooling is not well suited for this card because of the high resistor row on the right side of the card
  11. No I haven't tried the 4090 card, I think it's too overkill for the m18x r2 | m17x r4. I originally bought the 4060 for the m4800, but so far I haven't been able to get it to work properly
  12. The fastest ddr3 modules for laptops are 2133, but it is problematic to buy them only sometimes they are on ebay. if you are not ready to hunt and overpay, 1866 modules are not particularly worse. The difference between 3920xm and 3940xm is very minor - slightly higher frequency of the processor part and integrated graphics. in terms of power consumption and heat dissipation they are completely the same. https://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/49/Intel_Core_i7_Mobile_Extreme_Edition_i7-3920XM_vs_Intel_Core_i7_Mobile_Extreme_Edition_i7-3940XM.html
  13. I don't agree with you in terms of liquid metal soaking into copper does nothing wrong - it breaks the homogeneous structure, which over time affects heat transfer. besides, to me it's unnecessarily dangerous in a laptop. There's a simpler option that doesn't carry such risks - ptm7950 - cheap and effective. Here is an old thread on fan upgrading for m15x https://www.nbrchive.net/xfa/alienware-m15x.1078/M15x internal fan mods/
  14. Greetings. The standard cooling system can handle 940xm without overclocking and even with slight overclocking. If you want to achieve more, you will have to replace the standard fan to increase heat dissipation. The native cooling of the video card can handle 970m, for 980m you need to either limit its frequencies to the level of m5000m or change the fan too. If you want to use liquid metal, I recommend nickel plating the copper sections of the heatsink or the liquid metal will destroy those parts of the cooling quite quickly.
  15. You're so lucky, I really wanted to buy this card but it didn't pop up on ebay or aliexpress. How much did it cost you?
  16. Open the program gpu-z, go to the advanced tab and select nvidia bios there will be specified power limit for this video card. in general it is interesting that you post screenshots and general information gpu-z about this card
  17. This is a screenshot from a desktop, I can do the same on a laptop if you need it. The bios modification sounds interesting)
  18. No, that's not it - the device is just not visible in Device Manager. It would be nice if they could add support for 4g decoding. Well, in any case, I tried flashing other bios from 4060m - and the first one seems to have checked for this feature. my test computer (and I tested it initially on a PC through an adapter) did not want to boot and judging by the postcodes hung on pcie device detection. here is a screenshot of the current bios
  19. I'm sure it will work. the native bios does not require 4g decoding. the main problem is with heatsink, but it can be solved.
  20. lvds via optimus. I haven't bought myself a cable and matrix yet to try the edp connection
  21. I personally have not decided to try it yet) but another forum member is trying it - the card is visible in the bios, but not in the system.
  22. as far as I know on this forum only 4050m has been tried. yes it is a card from X-VSION. originally I took it for m4800 but it is too hot for it and I decided to try it in m17x r4. it needs serious heatsink modification for it because it overheats easily under load.
  23. My experience with 4060 from x-vsion - I tried to run with a Chinese adapter to pci-e x1 and slightly modified cooling from m4800. unfortunately it did not work as it should and gpu-z screenshot is the best I have achieved so far. having tried to flash this card with another vbios the computer with it does not want to boot anymore, so I will try to restore the native vbios.
