  1. Looks like Acer is getting in on the GPU market with their own A770 design. It actually looks pretty interesting. At some point in the future, I'd maybe like to build an all-Intel mini-ITX destop. Not that I necessarily want the Arc itself but more to support having a third horse in the GPU race. https://videocardz.com/newz/acer-shows-off-predator-arc-a770-graphics-card
  2. Google is shutting down Stadia in January 2023 - The Verge AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!11 At the very least, I'm glad Google is going to refund every purchase that was made on the platform - hardware, software, DLC, etc.
  3. Does your workflow exceed the 16 GB your laptop has now? If not, there is no need to upgrade.
  4. If I still had my 9700K desktop, I'd be all over this, but I don't know how nicely an A770 is going to play in an AMD-based machine LOL.
  5. The antonline eBay storefront is selling the 2022 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro with Ryzen 7 6800H, RTX 3070 Ti, 16 GB of RAM, and 1 TB SSD for $1399.99. I normally wouldn't recommend buying from antonline because of their poor return policy, but because it's on eBay, you would be covered by their buyer protection guarantee. Product link
  6. This is one advantage to buying a prebuilt from a system integrator. My desktop is a PowerSpec/MicroCenter build. The AS(S)Rock motherboard they used crapped the bed. I was able to take it to them, and they replaced it with a better Asus model. I had the machine back in my possession in less than a week - no fuss, no muss.
  7. After seeing the initial reviews, I see nothing in Zen 4 that will compel me to upgrade from my 5950X. With the way NVIDIA has been behaving lately, I'm seriously tempted to ditch my RTX 3080 for a 6900XT considering the latter can be had brand new for $700 or less right now, though I have a feeling the launch of RDNA 3 could put even more downward pressure on the pricing of the outgoing GPUs.
  8. I very much agree with the first part of this sentiment. At least to a degree it feels like EVGA is cutting off its nose to spite its face. NVIDIA isn't probably going to care too much, and it could end up ultimately backfiring because a lot of good people are going to lose their livelihoods.
  9. It's about all of those things you mentioned and more. Most workstation-class laptops have Quadro GPUs, which are far costlier than their GeForce counterparts. There are also various certifications that the manufacturer must put the machine through in order to be seen as a legitimate purchase option for businesses. Lenovo has a dedicated website where prospective buyers can view what hardware has been tested with different professional applications. ISV Certifications | Think Workstations
  10. Except EVGA is not going to jump to another GPU manufacturer if you take their CEO at his word. For all intents and purposes EVGA is pinning its entire future on power supplies. Everything else they sell, from motherboards to keyboards, are non-starters as they don't have the market presence of an Asus or Logitech in those areas.
  11. If you're going to make this comparison, it would be like Nike abandoning the shoe market and pinning the sustainability of its future on shirts.
  12. Unless you're buying a MacBook or other computer with soldered RAM and storage, it makes no sense to pay for such upgrades from the OEM, especially since access to those components in machines like the Precision or ThinkPad is super easy.
  13. I think a general handhelds sub-forum, which would cover things like the Steam Deck, Aya Neo, GPD, et al would be a good idea.
  14. I can try to run 3DMark later on. At this point it may be time for you to jump ship to a different brand or keep your Blade 14. I'm really liking the 5i Pro except for the fact that I've forgotten just how thick and heavy it is. It's a tradeoff as it will be extremely difficult to find something that offers reasonable performance and thermals/fan acoustics in a thinner package that doesn't cost a fortune.
  15. Your "workstations are too expensive" statement doesn't jibe with your budget. A workstation would actually be pretty ideal for your use case, and I would suggest the ThinkPad P16. ThinkPad P16 (16″ Intel) | New-look, pro-level mobile workstation | Lenovo US A 16-inch screen, especially one with a 16:10 aspect ratio as this has, offers plenty of visible real estate while still coming in a reasonably portable package. Most models come with 64 GB of RAM from the factory, the CPU is crazy fast, the Quadro A4500 GPU is akin to a mobile RTX 3070 Ti (but with more VRAM), and there's even an OLED display option. You can also equip the laptop with up to five years of on-site next business day warranty coverage.
  16. Mine has the same panel. Could be the BIOS update you did went bad somehow. I'm on the original J2CN40WW revision, and I believe the latest is 43.
  17. Not sure what's going on with yours, but I'm not seeing the issues you're describing. I was running on the 512.64 driver from Windows Update at first. Enabling dGPU only mode through Vantage worked perfectly with all control panel options exposed after rebooting. I haven't tested any games yet, but I observed no stuttering or tearing with NVIDIA's G-Sync pendulum demo. I was able to update to the latest 516.94 driver through GeForce Experience without incident. The G-Sync demo works just as before. I have Forza Horizon 5 but don't want to download 100 GB just to test VRR. Are there any smaller games that would be good to check?
  18. If Intel wants to be taken seriously in the desktop GPU market, their CEO should be on the phone with the head of EVGA right now to see about establishing a new partnership. Edit: Apparently EVGA has "not yet entertained" a deal with AMD or Intel, but anyone can be bought for the right price.
  19. I played around with both laptops when we were buying my kid the IdeaPad Gaming 3 in my sig. I didn't feel much difference between the 5 and 5 Pro. Maybe the former was slightly better, but it's not enough of a difference to offset the the fact that the latter has the much better screen. Using my work-issue MacBook Pro at the office, and the 16:10 aspect ratio really does improve my productivity. Incidentally, I found this while trolling the Lenovo support website. Apparently they released a VBIOS update for the 2022 5i Pro. No details as to what it fixes, maybe the dim screen issue that folks were having with the MUX switch and certain newer NVIDIA drivers. https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/legion-series/legion-5-pro-16iah7h/82rf/downloads/ds557414-vbios-legion-5-pro-16iah7-legion-5-pro-16iah7h-windows-11-64-bit?category=Graphics Processing Units (GPU) and Server-AI Accelerators
  20. I was originally going to go with the MicroCenter model, but the Walmart deal made more sense. I won't upgrade to 32 GB of RAM until I can get a kit for around $100. Plus I have a spare 970 Evo for auxiliary storage. The laptop is supposed to arrive Thursday, but I won't be able to pick it up and play with it until later on Friday.
  21. I asked Jarrod to test G-Sync on his 2022 Legion 7, and he said it seemed to work fine so I'm hopeful. I decided to throw caution to the wind and grab this, too. Much as I love the Blade's portability, the shallow-travel keyboard just isn't doing it for me considering I spend at least 25 hours a week typing directly on it.
  22. I asked the same question on Reddit and it looks like someone with a P1 Gen 5 has had decent success. I know it's not a like-for-like comparison, but I at least think it would be worth a $10 or so gamble to try.
  23. Has anyone tried one of these cables in an effort to get some form of USB-C power delivery to work? USB Type C Male to Square Slim Tip Male Power Cable for Lenovo laptop 100W 1.8M | eBay
