According to someone on reddit, the Chinese equivalent of the Pro 7i is just an upgraded 5 Pro. As such, a potential Legion 9 series is not out of the question. I canceled my order and will re-evaluate my options. The Best Buy special Alienware M16 is next on my list as I really, really don't fancy spending $4200 on the mini LED Blade 16.

There are other rather notable downgrades to the Pro 7 versus last year's models. Some of them I knew, others were found by digging through the PSREF (PSREF Legion Legion Pro 7 16IRX8H (lenovo.com)). They are: In addition to the Ethernet port being flipped the wrong way (release prong down) like it was on the 2021 Legion line, it's now 1 Gbps instead 2.5. The rear lights that indicate which port is where are gone. Here's the big one: The trackpad is now plastic instead of glass. This would also imply that the top deck is plastic like the Legion 5/5 Pro. I'm very disappointed in the last change and am now seriously considering cancelling my order. Edit: Jarrod discusses these things and more in his video.

Advanced Optimus support is nothing new but the 240 Hz refresh rate is, at least in North America. Jarrod also confirmed that the Gen 8 still does not conform to the PD 3.1 standard and that max charge over USB-C is only available on a 20V/7A adapter. One positive change is that both Type-C ports can be used for charging so now I can have a single cable solution with power and video with a dongle.

Lenovo has also massively expanded Vantage's functionality to now include the tweaking of power limits and fan curves, at least for Gen 8 models. Jarrod will have more information in his video that will be going live in about 9 hours from the time I'm making this post.

The maximum capacity listed on the spec sheet is per slot, not the laptop as a whole.

Did the same. I also had about $60 in rewards from the L5 I ordered before Christmas. If this doesn't work out, I'll just keep my 3070 Ti L5 and probably just go with the Blade 16.

Lots of things. We're finally converting an unused bedroom into an office for me so I purchased a desk, chair, glass chair mat, and a Razer Huntsman V2 TKL keyboard to go with the Viper Mini mouse I already have. Since completing Portal 2 RTX, I've barely touched my 4080 so I returned that in favor of a Radeon RX 6700 non-XT model. This thing is a little beast given its price, which to me was about $200 out of pocket after Best Buy reward points and gift cards. I'm likely going to sell the desktop and Legion later this year and purchase a flagship RTX 4090 laptop. I'm eyeing the Razer Blade 16 with the 4K/144-1080/240 switchable screen, but I want to see if that tech comes to any other laptops that will be introduced later this year. Otherwise, I may just stick with a Legion Pro 7 considering its pricing is much more reasonable.

I want to see reviews of it, but the 4K/144+1080/240 mini LED screen has piqued my interest. That model of Blade 16 is insanely expensive, but I am getting a tax refund this year that's about four times larger than I was expecting so I'm tempted to pull the trigger. I would then sell off my Legion and desktop PCs.

This is precisely why, aside from the stress test, 3DMark is utterly worthless.

Liquid metal is more trouble than it's worth, especially if you're not experienced with using it. A more traditional but high-quality thermal paste may not lower temperatures as much in absolute terms, but it's easier to work with and will last longer. Phobya Nanogrease and Gelid GC Extreme are two excellent products.

Reviews are starting to come out. HUB tests the 4090 while Jarrod's Tech compares the 4080 vs the 3080 Ti.

I don't think we're going to see any reviews much before release day.

I seem to remember Linus doing a video very recently about this issue and that it was noticed by Microsoft.

Are there any other utilities out there that are more regularly updated that can deal with Microsoft telemetry? WindowsPrivacyDashboard hasn't been updated in nearly a year and even Shutup10++ is going on three months. At the very least, are there any programs that support 22H2?

I would also classify the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 as hatchbacks rather than SUVs.

So in other words, it's a standard Sony-exclusive open-world game. At least with ones like Horizon Zero Yawn you can get them to run decently on low- to mid-range hardware.

Definitely agreed that the 4070 should be the 4060, the 80 the 70, etc. MicroCenter has revealed the pricing of several 40-series MSI laptops, and it's not looking all that great. I do miss the 16:10 aspect ratio, but I find 1080p to offer more comfortable viewing in a 15-inch laptop than 1600p in a 16-inch because with the latter I still have to use 150% display scaling while 100% works fine with the former.

I'm not impressed with any of these Legion laptops nor the rest of the Intel 13th-gen/Ryzen 7000/RTX 4000 models that have been announced so far. I'm normally an "upgrade every generation" person, but I'm 99% confident I'll be skipping this round as I've been extremely satisfied with my L5 Gen 7. Got it for under $1350, not inclusive of Rakuten cash back, in one of Lenovo's pre-holiday sales. Now that the return window has passed, I tossed in my extra 1 TB Samsung 970 Evo as it only came stock with a 512 GB SSD. Plus, I added 32 GB of G.Skill DDR5. I took a chance on ordering the CL34 kit, and thankfully it runs at those timings.

I realize it's too late now, but the G24F has been excellent. Great image quality and motion clarity. I also really like how little space it takes up. Here's a pic of the kiddo's new battlestation, and the monitor is a perfect fit.

[Various] AMD Ryzen 7600x/7700x/7900x/7950x Reviews
saturnotaku replied to Reciever's topic in Tech News
Really like what I saw from the R7 7700 especially with the box cooler. That's likely where I'm going to go next, but I think I'll wait for a price cut or two before jumping on board. -
[Various] AMD Ryzen 7600x/7700x/7900x/7950x Reviews
saturnotaku replied to Reciever's topic in Tech News
I'm looking forward to reviews/benchmarks of the new 65W non-X Ryzen 7000 parts. If they can provide a decent increase in gaming over my current 5950X, I'll likely switch. -
The 2023 Legion lineup is undergoing a name change and a modest design refresh. All will now carry the "Pro" designation and use 16-inch, 16:10 aspect ratio screens. Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13th-gen CPU options will be available and now pair exclusively with RTX 4000 GPUs. The Pro 5 will go up to RTX 4070, with the Pro 7 offering the 4090. The initial spec sheet shows that only 2560x1600 resolution displays will be available, with up to a 240 Hz refresh rate. In an interesting side note, the laptops will now support up to 140W of charging over USB-C so hopefully this means that Lenovo is adopting the proper PD 3.1 standard so any supported GaN charger will work. No word on pricing or availability, but with ship dates on last year's Legion 7i showing as far out as June, I'm guessing at least the new Pro 7 will be out sooner rather than later. I also expect these will cost a pretty penny with the usual Lenovo sales not kicking in until many months down the road.
