The 2023 Legion lineup is undergoing a name change and a modest design refresh. All will now carry the "Pro" designation and use 16-inch, 16:10 aspect ratio screens. Ryzen 7000 and Intel 13th-gen CPU options will be available and now pair exclusively with RTX 4000 GPUs. The Pro 5 will go up to RTX 4070, with the Pro 7 offering the 4090. The initial spec sheet shows that only 2560x1600 resolution displays will be available, with up to a 240 Hz refresh rate. In an interesting side note, the laptops will now support up to 140W of charging over USB-C so hopefully this means that Lenovo is adopting the proper PD 3.1 standard so any supported GaN charger will work. No word on pricing or availability, but with ship dates on last year's Legion 7i showing as far out as June, I'm guessing at least the new Pro 7 will be out sooner rather than later. I also expect these will cost a pretty penny with the usual Lenovo sales not kicking in until many months down the road.

Our old 2017 iPad Pro 10.5 is on its way out the door as the battery is rapidly discharging for no obvious reason so while it's still on sale for $279, I'm grabbing a second 64 GB 9th-gen iPad. The kiddo will get the one we bought last year, which still holds an insane battery charge, and the wife and I will pilot the new one.

HowTo- QMK AutoFire (Toggle-able repeating keys)

Does it have to be a full keyboard? There are hardware macro pads that look like the tenkey portion of a keyboard where you can program all kinds of functions into them that stay with the device. If you're only looking to perform a few specific things, it would certainly be a more portable option than moving around a full-size keyboard.- 14 replies

Yesterday Best Buy was running a special with the Xbox Series S for $249 with a free extra controller so I picked that up. I'll also pick up a new DVD player for the few times I watch movies. There are some upscaling ones for less than $30.

While I wouldn't have expected the 7900 XTX to crush the RTX 4080, I thought it would do much better overall. -
After my latest Legion debacle with a defective 5 Pro for which Antonline only refunded 85% of my money (have a dispute open with fleBay to get the rest back), I picked up the base model Legion 7 Advantage Edition so a 6800H and RX 6700M. Total cost including tax and Rakuten cash back will be less than $1500. The all-metal build is certainly the nicest of the Legion 5/5 Pro/7 line, with the glass trackpad being a notable step up from the lesser models. My unit runs incredibly cool and for basic tasks is pretty much silent. However, my old nemesis high-pitched fan whine decided to make an appearance. It's not nearly as bad on this laptop as it was on most 2021 Legions I tried. Upon browsing reddit, I came across a thread of people discussing the same issue on the older models. Someone put masking tape on the vents, partially blocking both the fans and it more or less solved the problem. I tried it on mine and lo and behold, it all but eliminated the noise to the point where now the only time I really hear it is if the fans are going full tilt with synthetic benchmarks using performance mode, which is not a realistic scenario for how I would be using the device. Plus, temperatures didn't increase by what I would consider a noticeable amount, 1 maybe 2 degrees tops. I have a couple items coming in that I'm going to experiment with as a means of trying to find a more aesthetically pleasing solution. Yes, you never spend time looking at the bottom of your laptop, but what I ordered could also potentially provide another benefit on top of eliminating the noise if it works as I'm envisioning. If it doesn't I'll just go back to using masking tape.

What is the specific blue screen error? Install the program WhoCrashed to analyze the memory dump.

Random blue screens are usually a sign of failing/failed RAM.

Did you flash a non-standard VBIOS?

Every new laptop from late-2021 onward, even models that originally came with Windows 10, has 11 preinstalled so it's not solely a Lenovo thing. Incidentally, the L5 Pro I got from the Antonline fleBay deal has hard locked on me several times, and the keyboard seems to be suffering from chatter on several keys so that's going back today. Did the RMA request through fleBay and got the return shipping label right away. I had originally ordered one of the $1099 2021 5 Pro models from Walmart but instead opted for a Legion 7 AMD Advantage Edition with the R7 6800H and RX 6700M GPU. In addition to the Black Friday discount, there was a pair of coupon codes that stacked, and with Rakuten cash back, it will end up being less than $1500 all-in. Unfortunately, I couldn't cancel the Walmart order before they shipped it so I'll need to send that back - mostly because I forgot that this model doesn't have a video output that's wired to the integrated GPU, which I need if I want to use the machine at work. Using iGPU video output really helps keep fan noise to a minimum.

Walmart just one-upped Antonline by putting last year's 5 Pro with a 5800H/RTX 3070 on Black Friday sale for $1099. Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16" Gaming Laptop, QHD 165Hz, AMD Ryzen 7, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Home, Storm Grey, 82JQ00F9US - Walmart.com

[Various] AMD Ryzen 7600x/7700x/7900x/7950x Reviews

Updated cost-per-frame analysis from HUB based on Ryzen 7000 sale pricing: -
While not as blindingly good a deal as the Asus G15 Advantage Edition when Best Buy puts it on sale for $1099, this L5 Pro from Antonline's fleBay store is pretty solid. You get the 6800H, 16 GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, and most impressively, a 3070 Ti for $1399. Legion 5 Pro 16" QHD Gaming Laptop 165Hz R7-6800H 16GB DDR5 1TB SSD RTX 3070Ti 196379319239 | eBay This was a better buy than the non-Pro L5i I was using to swapped them out. My biggest concern with an AMD-based laptop is it immediately waking up when trying to put it to sleep, but so far so good. The fans do run at idle, but there's zero high-pitched whine. I still hate how bulky this thing is. At least I can use it with a 100W USB-C charger at the office, and one of the Type-C ports is wired to the integrated graphics so the NVIDIA GPU stays idle and the system that extra bit quieter. Still, you can't argue with the amount of performance you get for the price.

Wiping the SSD is unnecessary and on an Asus laptop could actually cause issues with some of the functionality with the Armoury Crate software. Use Windows' built-in utility to create a recovery drive.

Spare me. Purdue Pharmaceuticals, whose products have killed more than 600,000 people, is allowed to have a platform on Twitter. The Ayatollah is allowed to have a platform on Twitter.

A lot of the people butthurt about Elon cleaning house at Twitter don't seem to have much to say about Amazon, Facebook, Lyft, Salesforce, Cisco, Stripe, Microsoft, and others making significant workforce cuts.
-
Based on HUB testing of other Gigabyte monitors, I expect this will offer excellent performance for the price. Just need to make sure the master of the house is OK with spending the money. I won't have any info to share about it until after Christmas, though, as it will be a gift.

If I didn't already have the 1 TB SanDisk that I pulled when I upgraded my desktop, I would have grabbed this as external storage for my Xbox.
