Same 16:10 displays (as @RS4 notes below with new anti-glare coating) Option for an RTX 2050 90Wh battery with discrete GPU 80Wh battery with iGPU only 12th Gen i5-1240P or i7-1260P (16" only has the i5 apparently) 8GB - 32GB LPDDR5 RAM, no upgrades it's all soldered on 2x PCIe x4 4.0 SSD slots Also new Gram+View portable monitor launching They are running a pre-order campaign in South Korea from Apr 11-21 with free Gram+View and some other stuff, I would imagine we'll see it in the Americas and Europe a month or three after that. Bunch of pictures at the link below at GSMArena https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_gram_16_and_17_unveiled_with_12th_gen_intel_cpus_optional_nvidia_rtx_2050_gpu-news-53647.php I'm probably not going to be interested I'm still fine with my old 2019 model with i7-8565U. Might be hard to resist though!

I usually leave DTS disabled, I use Dolby Atmos for Headphones instead.

I still have yet to install GTA5, maybe I should finish RDR2 first.

So true, there's a huge difference between a tech demo and a game that's actually a playable game that will run at an acceptable framerate on an wide range of PCs

Because write caching makes writing to the SSD much more efficient, can store it in DRAM cache and write it async which is faster than the NAND. It should always be enabled for an internal SSD. Whether or not you enable it for removable media is up to your tolerances for lost data if you pull it without "Ejecting Safely", which is a friendly term for cached data is committed to the media first. I suppose whatever game that is you're playing is doing a lot of storage writes oddly, that doesn't make a ton of sense for a device with 32GB unless there's a bunch of telemetry written to disk.

I still have my Gram 17 (2019, i7-8565U). I used to game on it with Sonnet Breakaway 550 + 2070, worked great.

4000 series set to be 150 percent faster than previous 3090
hfm replied to ryan's topic in General Discussion
For eGPU, the most important part is that the controller is on die and has access to CPU directly. Which they all have since I think 10th Gen Intel mobile CPUs. As indicated by Sonnet there, eGPU will continue to use TB3. As far as PSUs go, unless you bought 80 Plus platinum or titanium, most of them are at their best efficiency around 50-60% load, probably not a bad thing to overdo it a little on the PSU. As well, modern CPUs can consume gobs of wattage while boosting if you can keep them cool and deliver the current. -

I sold the eGPU built an SFF desktop. Still love the Gram though! TB4 isn't very eGPU friendly, they will all still run from TB3 for the foreseeable future until some better standard comes along. -
Hah. Yeah it's just all about building up the muscle memory and buying into the game system. I'll definitely put the time in next I pick it up.

4000 series set to be 150 percent faster than previous 3090
hfm replied to ryan's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I'm actually slightly rebuilding my rig at the moment and going mini-iTX. I have the mobo and case/psu/AIO on the way, it's going to replace my micro-ATX. Just moving the CPU+GPU and everything into the new case. The reason I'm bringing this up is SFF is appealing to me and the 40 series seems to be extremely SFF averse. the 3090 is 350W TBP.. you can easily get away with that in an SFF build using an 750-850W PSU and a sane CPU. WIth these 40 series heading north of 450W we're going to need some serious SFF PSU advancement. I haven't seen one over 850W. You could probably juggle your CPU and 40 series GPU and make an 850W PSU work fine but when 850W is starting to hit limits we're in trouble. Never mind that to get the most efficiency you usually have to run it about 60-70% load unless it's platinum or titanium rated. SFF builds are about to get STEAMY. -
I liked all the Metro games, Exodus was fantastic. Chernobylite is one I meant to buy but never did. Maybe on the next sale. I would comment on the current situation but that's probably better left for the Off-Topic section.

Agreed. I bought it and played it for about 5 hours.. I'll jump back into Elden Ring after I finish AC:Valhalla which I just installed instead. Will probably be a patch by then to cure those hitches that happen sometimes, though they were not really bothering me much. I do like the FromSoft souls games. I grey-marketed the Asia version of Demons Souls (it had the english track) on PS3 before it was even released in north america and devoured that, almost finished Dark Souls on PC but stopped somewhere near the end of that, need to replay it.. fell off both DS2 and DS3 after single digit hours in them. I'm a little afraid that I've done the same thing in Elden Ring where there's just something about them since I fell off DS1 late where I think I just got burned out of redoing the same thing over.. and over... and over.. in order to make progress. I know that grind is the whole point but it gets.. tedious.. For instance, I'm not giving anything away really it's super early in the game, following the directional hints using the first set of Sites of Grace you eventually come across this small camp being patrolled by some guards and one strong knight level guard (I haven't committed the name of the enemies to memory yet sorry).. I kept getting killed by the damn knight after sneaking around and picking off the others one by one.. so I'd have to redo the whole damn camp again.. then again... then again.. I mean i know the reason I was losing the fight was my own fault, partly I kept hitting X instead of B to dodge because that's the key in the AC games and I've been playing that as the last few games I played for hundreds of hours, But whatever that's a lame excuse. But redoing that damn camp over and over was starting to get super old. And every time you rest.. here are all the enemies again. It kind of ruins any sense of "progress" or that it's a living world.. even more so now that it's an open world. It kind of ends up breaking the immersion a little for me and turns it into a puzzle game that resets every time you sneeze. I know that's just part of the game and grinding those areas over and over is the only way to level but it's SO.. DAMN... TEDIOUS and doesn't make me feel like I'm progressing in the world. It kind of makes me frustrated because I really like the rest of the game.. the world.. the enemies.. the story beats... the feel. So I do finally beat the knight (the number of times I quit playing for the night after getting beat by that dude over and over because I didn't want to kill everyone in the camp again is two.. two times.. and I rarely frustratingly quit a game..) and then I'm like ok lets head up through that archway by the other site of grace.. oh man come on what's that big dude on the arch.. ugh it jumps down.. DEAD.. though I did give it a run for it's money and got it most of the way down. So I was like sitting there like.. do I REALLY have to frigging fight this dude over and over to get further.. I JUST WANT TO SEE THE WORLD AND STUFF... I'll come back to it after I finish AC:Valhalla, which will probably be October as I like to uncover everything.. and Ragnarok comes out this month. When I do get back to Elden Ring I'm going to have to just steel up and commit to forgetting every other game until I can get myself back into the "Souls like" mindset, I'm just not there right now and can't really be bothered with all the groundhog day repetition.. They should be called Groundhog Day-likes.. not Souls-Likes. I wouldn't mind fighting the same type of enemies if I felt I was making WORLD progress, but having to fight the same enemies in the SAME EXACT PLACE over and over is just making me feel like I'm wasting my time.. So i'll probably see Elden Ring again later in the year and try to clear my head and become one with the repetition and grind and let it not bother me so I can experience it.

I broke and bought Elden Ring, played it for about 5 hours and already got tired of redoing things. Installed AC:Valhalla since I finally finished everything in Odyssey and been playing that for a bit. Good so far. It seems to perform better than Odyssey so far, but I'm still in the general area where you start, not sure if it gets more intense later. Game itself is great so far.

I used to go to a local Amiga users group as well. Met some cool peeps there. Hero of the Lance was great! The Goldbox games are still good as well, have to use gold box companion these days though as the usability is pretty rough vs modern design. Come to think of it, a modern revival of the Gold Box games would be pretty cool, but I guess we kind of already have those with the infinity engine style games and games like Solasta. I'm also 50 lol

If you're not a stickler for hardware itself Amiga Forever (or just UAE) and C64 Forever are... "good enough". I had a friend that had an A1000. I didn't get one until the A500 launched. City I lived in at the time had a local Amiga specific store, I spent so much time there. I had a lot of fun modding it. There were so many from the Fat Agnus so you could run games and demos in PAL mode among other benefits. The final mod I did was putting a 16MHz 68000 in there and hooking up a switch to go from 7Mhz to 14Mhz. It never worked perfectly though as memory freq was still 7Mhz. It had a near negligible impact and caused instability so I basically ripped it back out. Those were the days! I don't think we'll ever be able to replicate that time again, hot rod PC building these days just isn't as fun, though it's probably just me wanting to spend more time just playing games once I have something "good enough". We should create a separate retro computing thread/section though not sure it'll get enough activity lol.
-
Man there's so many Amiga games I could drop.. the list is endless... but I'll go back just a little further and throw in the C64 game I probably spent the most time in...
-
I agree. Though I think they took the correct approach of trying to fix the foundation of the game before release any substantial DLC. I definitely plan on revisiting the game when they seem to be wound down on releasing DLC for it. We're probably 18-24 months from that I would imagine though. They probably got set back a year at least with the security breach, poor performance of consoles at launch and pandemic disrupting lives. They should be able to work remotely pretty close to full efficiency, I was able to, but it's just a slight culture change if they're used to being in the same place every day. They released DLC for Witcher 3 I think 6 and 12 months after the game released.. All these distractions set them back a bit. Truthfully they needed another year to launch I think. I think we're JUST NOW at the state where the game should have launched. Maybe we'll get a couple meaty DLC in the next 12-18 months.

Everyone, its time to decide our brand!

I have to admit efgxt.net sounds a little like external graphics, I was having a hard time figuring out what it was supposed to mean until I saw the explanation in the thread. End of the day I don't really care about the domain, it's more about the content and organization of topics. notebooktalk.com/net sounds fine. -

hfm replied to Reciever's topic in Internal Announcement Discussion
I agree here, if Apple offerings have their own section there's no reason it shouldn't exist. They are popular notebooks for a reason. I do kind of like keeping it more notebook focused as it's underserved, there's a dime-a-dozen general desktop hardware and tech focused forums not to mention reddit. Even if I don't really care as much about notebooks as I used to from a gaming standpoint, I still use both windows and mac for productivity on a near daily basis. For instance there was a ton of great knowledge in the LG section for drivers and Linux talk in NBR that is essentially lost now. -
Proposal to maybe create a "Gaming" section where this thread can exist as well as other gaming/software related threads. I think I remember a section for Gaming existed in NBR and it was easier to find than just hanging out in General. Nevermind I just noticed this is in a section called "Gaming Floor" I didn't notice on the main page. Probably that the topic headings are the same weight and color as the rest, but yeah my fault. 😕

Still playing AC:Odyssey... I finished all three phases/acts whatever of "Atlantis" .. thought I was done.. noticed there was a "Vacation" quest and now I'm on a whole new island again.. And Valhalla is BIGGER? wow... My gaming for the next 12 months is planned out as I'm tackling Valhalla next..
