  1. Totally all good! I was just weirded out about it. No harm done!
  2. ... But then, what is the likelihood that someone used my compromised account to post an update they got from the specific MXM GPU manufacturer we are discussing in this thread? Is this a hacker that just happens to care about upgradeable laptop parts? Or did someone misclick when replying and have privilege they are unaware of? I mean, I changed my password, but I'm fairly certain someone posting within the thread edited my post.
  3. Seems like someone in the forums has privilege to edit other people's posts, because the post was on-topic and not just disjointed gibberish. No amount of password changing is gonna stop that from happening.
  4. I did not type any of that. What is going on?
  5. I'll do this to see. I can't commit anything without knowing cost and considering that. It is a shame that we have all these Paper-launched MXM cards that could do people good, but are either not available to consumers or cost as much as 3 new laptops. Can I not mention a company, They usually want to know what company you work for or at. If I can say "I would preffer not to mention a company due to" some reason. Although I am on PNY notification list. So anyway Thanks for contacting ADLINK! We're routing your inquiry to the right team and we'll be in touch shortly.
  6. Uhhh yeah. This is looking great. I'm not crazy about the .exe workaround and having to spoof through Steam, but at least it is total proof of concept that it is possible!
  7. I was trying to price ONE, but it would be a hell of an expensive experiment if the pricing rumors are true.
  8. Got word from company, they don't sell quantities less than a MOQ. An MOQ production run is minimum 100 parts, so that's a bummer. I understand why of course, but it's just dumb in my opinion. Still trying to get pricing info from PNY for a 100-part lot, but I don't have a quarter-million-plus sitting around for PNY to stuff in the bank either, so there's that. Just wanted to offer info for you fine folks. If I hear anything else, I'll update.
  9. Started off with a Precision 6400, bumped it to the fx2800 after someone on the forums suggested it would be a good boost. It was a fun process but the 6400 is limited. Got a Precision 6600 and immediately did the FirePro 6100 in it, and bumped it to an i7 from an i5. Tested a few cards in that machine to see if I can get an output on the panel. Been wicked fun, and its a solid machine: If I need to, I can toss the 6100 back in it and it'll run no problem. Bought a M17x R4 from the marketplace here, kinda turned into a money pit. Don't know what it is but it keeps destroying motherboards and GPUs. It has been fun to work with nonetheless! Earlier this year I dropped decent money (950 US) on an HP zBook 17 G5 with a Quadro P5200 to have a more seriously focused portable gaming rig, and it is a tank. MXM as well! BGA cpu, but it's a pretty solid runner so no issues there. Laptops are fun, and NBR was a huge resource of info and people. Thanks for making NBT!
  10. Lord a Mercy I could switch to eDP-interposer IPS screen, buy a w7170m, reflash to m390x (again) and live the dream. I just need to find many hundred dollars my wife won't notice...
  11. Well right on then! I have a M3000m I got for 35 bucks, it was sent as "tested and working" but it won't fire in either the M17x R4 I have or the M6600, with an external monitor hooked up. I know the M6600 bios was rather restrictive, but like when I was testing the W7170m it would at LEAST pipe the output to the HDMI and I could pull tests and such. But no luck with the maxwell 3k card. I wish I had a way to actually TEST the damn thing to see if it actually works. The M17x R4 I have killed off the W7170m and (I think) its motherboard in the process of setting up fan control, so I'm not certain it is a reliable test bench. I could just get a really cheapo known eDP card and test it out. Buuuut if it wasn't a little tough it wouldn't be as fun/gratifying when things work.
  12. So it outputs eDP from the M6600, locking out onboard and forcing fulltime dedicated graphics, and the eDP signal is translated by the interposer to a LVDS 50-pin signal, and then is piped to the monitor? I just wanna make sure I understand why the parts are necessary! It stands to reason if I could get the BIOS to recognize an eDP card, it would output to the interposer and then the panel. This would open up more options for the M6600. I did find the interposer for 35 bucks I think, on eBay. Panel for $70.
  13. I wish I could tell you! I haven't had issues getting my setup to work with NMS so I don't have any good advice. The NMS reddit is about the only place to ask or look for help with it, because Hello Games doesn't support any kind of self-made community hub or forums.
  14. Hey all: Just wanted to verify: there ARE LVDS vbios available for the m290x/HD8970m 4gb card that will allow it to work on the M6600? I've not tinkered with laptops in a while so I'm thinking of trying this out! My m6100 is now artifacting during games, but has a clean mxm connection and is properly pasted/padded. I also read the post about upgrading the M6600 to a better panel, but it requires a lot of hardware and it seems to still be a LVDS output with a converter to make it eDP for the panel so it provides better visuals but doesn't actually increase GPU compatibility. EDIT: I should add, the NBR archive pointed toward a few options that are long expired so they don't give a ton of help. I did spend a while digging through old threads.
