@Papusan brother @Mr. Fox alot of people game, most in their 30s people find enjoyment from it, I play chess because I enjoy it, you benchmark for the same reasons as do I. but even someone thats quick like a snail. this trend needs to stop, bring back mxm and socketed cpus. bring back excellent cooling and match desktop performance. if that happened I would not switch to desktop due to the massive size and lack of portability, desktops are like heavy haulers, laptops used to be like ferraris. I don't see any use for a desktop besides raw power for video editing and gaming. what do you use your 4090s for>? cause at this point I dont even know, maybe you code or use in house AI. I just think now that 99 percent of all stuff is run off the cloud its not the way it used to be, now all you need is a internet connection. -

I was looking for a 4080/4090 and alot of them are priced pretty high but they are selling like hotcakes, the 4090 is outselling the steam deck oled, it might even make history being the best selling gpu of all time. as for shortages I think its intentional its not new practice to create demand. on a more postive note the new nomad benchmark looks amazing graphically, really nice looking benchmark from the pictures, I hope it really is a successor to timespy, been waiting for, what seems like forever. A preview of 3DMark Steel Nomad (ul.com) all I have for release date is this snippet 3DMark Steel Nomad will launch in the first quarter of next year for devices running Windows and Windows-on-Arm on Steam, the Epic Games Store, or direct from UL Solutions. Steel Nomad and Steel Nomad Light for macOS and Linux, and Steel Nomad Light for Android and iOS devices, will launch later in 2024 -
thanks again can't stress that enough. I checked out that 3080, and that would be the perfect gpu for me given my budget. I think you guys are right no need to rush it, I will likely start the build in a week and look forwards to playing horizon 5 at 4k/120. bro @tps3443 thanks, I dont mind buying off you. I just don't have enough to start, i'll have 2000 in a few days/weeks and think thats about just right to build a good desktop, already have a great tv so it's pretty exciting thinking about how great it will be, and the pleasure from benchmarking, I have no idea what to expect if what I know about laptops with transfer over to desktop or if its another beast ill learn, slowly but surely

lol her face looks a little on the young side, but hey you never know some women look alot younger than they are. Tom has a new song out its ok.

sorry ill be back thanks so much @bros/ i need my depot(medication) getting sick

im trying to get the price down but once i add a cpu or gpu it rockets up

ok with a A770 its about 1300...just out of range..I guess I have no choice but to by a prebuilt now or wait a few weeks
-
sir @Mr. Fox I managed to create a i5 build thats decent for 860 that does not include gpu, i was thinking of just buying a A770 off new egg and getting a mid range desktop. is the i5 13700k any good, actually i think you answered that you said its fine. i can always upgrade later on. looks like for 4k gaming its either get a xbox series x or get a 2000 buck desktop
-
I agree with you guys 99 percent of the time, but having a laptop can be a good thing as you can pick it up and surf on the bed or couch and be more comfortable than at a desk its nice for trips even if you do it only once or twice a year. I personally like the laptop because of two things, temps and OLED panel. I have never had an oled laptop and watching 4k movies and gaming are incredible looking it really grabs your attention and screams this is the future. but I also like the idea of a powerhouse desktop with a oled display that is buttery smooth for when i want to game and is upgradeable. but after searching today it still looks like although desktops are better in the long run, so similar perforamnce laptops are cheaper, they just are especially refurbished but i will never game on my laptop and i already have 3 good-great laptops all with different uses. I think getting a nuc and oled tv might serve me better based on my usage or heck even just buying a xbox series x for gaming and a decent nuc. Im just having trouble pulling the trigger. im a died hard laptop fan unlike many here but I cant help but wonder if or when i get a desktop ill convert. its like a book you hear its good you buyh it and never read it. good book no doubt but the content doesnt grab you enough to at least read a part of it. papusan might be right about maybe just getting an el cheapo desktop and upgrade slowly while learning. If I do decide on just getting a NUC or perhaps a prebuilt thats available to buy in canada in say the 900 mark...ill buy it this second. I just dont like buyers remorse, buying something then realizing you dont use or need it. do you think what jaybee said wait is a good idea? im thinking about so many things i feel overwhelmed, you also mentioned buying used sometimes theres a steal with decent parts for a great price on facebook. at anyrate this is going to take a great deal.
-
if thats true I might just be able to swing and hit a desktop today and used my laptop as a weapon of destruction via throwing or smacking. or as @cylix STATED A FOOTSTOOL. So where should I be buying these desktop parts, I can shop around but i find that frustrating, is newegg any good these days. also mr fox do you have any games you would like to benchmark? @Mr. Fox should I take back my oled laptop, can I really benefit off the extra 610? everything desktop related seems like a rich mans game

you guys have always understood me and been kind with lol eternal sometimes getting frustrated. but I took your advice and bought this...its expensive and I can slot a 4090 in it down the line..or should i cancel Dell Latitude Chromebook 3445 Laptop (2023) | 14" FHD+ | Core Ryzen 3 - 256GB SSD - RAM - Radeon 610M | 4 Cores @ 4.1 GHz | Best Buy Canada side note. @Etern4l we may not engage in the best conversations but your angle is always a good thing its like amd vs nvidia..you being amd, bros I think we need to man up and i will also, he is appreciated and I know we shrug off alot but it helps me mentally reading your guys posts. I need stimulation in these tough times and AI seems like KOKO in its current state so i cant talk to ai in a meaningful way. @bros...hmm recievers need to fix the calling all bros shout out. I am ready to buy, im searching my options for prebuilt. just a quick tip..on a scale of one to 10 how hard would it be to build a desktop if your memory is similar to dementia and your mechanical apptitude is similar to a elephant playing tennis

ok. its settled. A770 + used i9. its funny how you guys go into depth on ram and motherboards ect, in the laptop space thats basically non exisitant these days, you don't pick your motherboard or PSU ect heck even cpus are hard wired along with dying mxm. Im nervous that i'll get it and It wont be as fast as I expect, but when I watch your videos and videos on youtube its exciting seeing framerates around 200fps at 4k ultra on some titles I play, a 4090-4070 can be such a big jump from the 3060 its actaully hard to believe its only been 3 years
-
haha BRO. I will most likely sell or dare i say take my laptop back and just get a 4070 but with the supers coming out soon it seems like a good idea too get a 3060ti as a start then just sell it off at a loss. Im searching right now for components and memoryexpress isn't too bad just no sales. all of their prices are msrp. I was just thinking it would save a headache knowing it just works vs getting a faulty component. risk is low but still I dont have much kicking around. I was thinking of just getting a 4090 and hanging on to it for a few years and then just do an upgrade in 2026 when more games are out that need the power, but im sure by then 8k gaming will be in swing. im still leaning into a A770 and getting a desk with a OLED monitor/tv. would be more enjoyable visually and I can afford it if I take back my VIVOBOOK. basically options are 2) no gpu best setup 3) A770 and i7 or used i9 with oled monitor 4) 3060ti and i9 sell and buy a 4090 5) save
-
thanks bro. I just got my car rental settlement. wasn't what I expected but its still nice being paid for hassle. Im going to order a 1400 dollar chromebook like the masses. lol, that'll be the day. Im eyeing www.memoryexpress.com system builder. might buy a package deal for a 4060 or 3060ti or if the price is right a A770 setup, I want a A770 but I think the benefit of DLSS and FG with the 4060 mighy justify a few bucks. very excited.

ha, yeah ah the ram is kinda glued in with metal lol. its the typical trash they push. not enough storage, 8gb ram, i5, heating issues, plagued wth bloat and custom bioses that force reinstall of bloat. I didn't get it for free, well technically everything is free for me but I spent the free money. its an ok laptop, good screen, decent battery life it has a backlit keyboard and its fairly light. it just needs 16gb of ram and a 2tb ssd. its mainly going to be used for geforce now. audio editing and casual youtube, basically going to be unused most of the time but it was cheap, 650cad or 500usd. can't really get an oled laptop for much less. I always enjoy getting a new computer and seeing how far I can push it, i think I have 1261hours logged into 3dmark. Im just thinking now....I can afford a great desktop but what will I use it for?? Im not a into super intensive games/apps dont mind even igpus for gaming im old school when it comes to games, I will play a few hours of chess and then pool(2d) and be done for the day....rest of time its just music. btw mr fox tom has a new song out. -

lol, yeah Im pretty excited to get a powerfulish desktop. Its been a long time to make the switch but in the end its for the better. It looks like ill be getting more than I expected so I might just drop the cash and get a 4090 and i9. going to probably cost 3500-4000 for my build but ill finally be able to game at 4k on my tv. im still unsure though as I just booted forza motorsport on geforce now at 4k and the improvement is noticeable. its passable and the performance is what you would expect from a 4080 in cloud. If GTA VI is coming out in a year maybe I should wait till then and drop the cash when its needed. I don't have much cashola but since im on my computer for hours each day the purchasing of laptops and a desktop is worth it. I don't have a desire for anything after my oled laptop it does what it does and does it well, ive never gamed on my lap and havent needed a gaming laptops portability for years as im not working on the road anymore, I might be hitting the road soon and haven't decided if im going to stay put or start travelling across canada to have a better life/experiences. -

I have a new as you guys call it a jokebook. it is pretty awesome for what it is. i5 12500h is a bit on the slow side and it only has 8gb ram...should i buy a 32gb stick for 8+32gb. or is that pointless on a ultrabook im getting 9700 in cloudgate which seems low but thats not plugged in. also its asus so its a nightmare trying to install a fresh version of windows it keeps wanting to load the cloud version and its hardwired into the bios much like the asus keyboard i have, installs a ton of crap ware. suprised no one online is saying anything about it, no resistance then no change. -

bro @Etern4l This AI stuff is pretty popular and growing in size/complexity. on my current internet I cant find anything cool to do with ai like making an ai video from text or making a ai picture, or anything. can you share a site for these things. post it and give me a heads up on what not to do lol
