yeah well, W/mK values are about as valuable and informative as nm designations for process nodes, ms response times in display marketing or sequential bandwidth numbers for SSDs 😋

The 4090 is on the ragged edge of scaling, for mobile scaling the TGP back to that point will put it in the efficiency sweet spot. Though the top card should just be a 4070ti mobile in name.

exactly, they gotta follow the efficiency curve for mobile hardware, thats why its dumb for them to use the desktop naming. better go back to the "M" days or smth along those lines.

Should be fine. As you may recall from his videos, he always tests every repair by maxing stress with Furmark, then runs Heaven, Valley and Superposition before he calls it good. But, I will post if there is any issue.

Well, this is cool. Getting things in order for selling the Strix Z690-A D4 and 12900K and RAM kit, and I found a couple of settings to get the ram stable at DDR4-4400 16-18-18-36 1T. I had to give the IMC and the DIMMs about 0.025mV more juice. I could only get it to boot at 4000 with the 12900K before. Runs great now.

Also, no W/m*K this time. I guess it's not record-beating then.

Intriguing though, looking forward to further reviews..

welp, W/m*K doesnt tell us much anyways, varies way too much based on testing conditions. what matters more is actual results vs other pastes under identical testing conditions.

Surely it's not reasonable to blame the OS (Android) or the hardware vendor (eg, Samsung) for ads being displayed in a browser, or in the YouTube App?  The OS is the platform that enables the browser, and the browser is the app that displays 'content'.  The ads are inserted into the content stream by a variety of entities (content provider, 3rd party ad brokers, YouTube, etc) but those ads are surely NOT coming from Android?

You are railing against Android 12/13, but would you not see those very same ads if you fired up your old phone that still has Android 4, and displayed the same YouTube video on THAT phone? Or if you fired up a Windows 7 box and used it to display YouTube, or even a linux box?

im guessing its more about the specific combination of OS, apps and ad functionality that enables a toxic interplay of BS to getax profits, private data and control from the consumer 😅 and in that regard, all companies / OS types / products go towards the same crappy end goal...

Micro Center Prices RTX 4080 Close to RTX 4090's MSRP

If your budget can stretch to $1,500 for a RTX 4080, you may want to consider a RTX 4090 if you can find it near MSRP, which will be noticeably faster card for just $50 more on some models.

    https://videocardz.com/newz/microcenter-confirms-geforce-rtx-4080-us-pricing-from-1199-to-1549

Who in the right mind would pay $1550 for an ASUS NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 ROG Strix Oc'd?

Is this placeholder (MC confirm the price) or do Asus/Micro Center think consumers are stupid

It seems Asus is one of the worst Nvidia partners regarding price setting of own home baked Nvidia products. This is laughable and should not be taken seriously.

do u really think tho that nvidia and AMD will flood the market with product and thus severely risk having to lower price per item? not so sure about that... Nvidia demonstrated a pretty clever strategy with the 4090, offering it in batches bit by bit so they can finetune availability and not risk oversaturating the market. why wouldt AMD follow that example? in any case, im skeptical, lets see whatll be up in a few months time.

Apparently Kingpin and Luumi both will vouch for this CENS guy. So I don’t know….I already refunded him either way.

Also, the person he apparently scammed they said he baits and switches the CPU’s out, apparently his samples are claimed as really amazing and promised to run this and run at that, and the person gets an actual turd of a CPU once they receive it. I have no

@Mr. Fox Soooooooo, I got an answer to your Question about Microcenter in Arizona. As of right now it's not going to happen. They have plans for 3 more locations in the near distant future though. Indiana, Miami and I forget the other location.

As to why they are in no hurry to open new stores...... Microcenter is a cash operation with zero investors.  So when they have enough money they go out and build another store.

And when business is slow they just lay low until business just picks backup.  And since they answer to no one they do as they please.  I was also told that it has to do with location, I threw in that Arizona has lower taxes apparently Microcenter is not interested in going to Arizona right now.  Something to do about real estate and location Is what I was told from someone in the know.

pretty good info, thx for that! it sounds like theyre taking things slow and safe, which aint a bad thing at all, considering how many investment bubbles and fake startups are just out for quick cash grabs nowadays, without offering any actual products or services. id definitely prefer that vs. growing too fast and having to shrink / lay ppl off again in hindsight. long game vs. short term gains.

also, the focus on real estate and location likely has to do with overall low margins on their side (i.e. impact of tax savings are low for them, so not a high priority), backup strategies (i.e. higher real estate stability / expected returns after aqcuisition in case smth goes wrong with the retail business and using the real estate as plan B), as well as number of potential customers in a given area? all those points are just assumptions on my part though, just thinking out loud here 😄

Also, have you tried remounting that 13900K IHS again with LM. Your results just seem really really low. I keep hearing 11C reduction. And you are saying the same or worse temps. Just kind of surprising that it did not help is all.

Have you double checked your application and mount?

On 11/7/2022 at 1:56 PM, Mr. Fox said:

If that is true it has been completely redesigned from what it was. I purchased one for 12th Gen and it is as wide as the CPU with cutouts for the "wings" and SMDs near the edge of the PCB. The one I purchase was way too big for the opening in the contact frame. So, it was either totally redesigned to match stock dimensions or the people saying that are full of baloney.

Edit: it has been totally redesigned. That is good news. I got one of the first 12th Gen delid tool and copper IHS, so they probably figured out people wanted to use the contact frame instead of the stock ILM. I am ordering one so I can use liquid metal on top and preserve my stock IHS. https://rockitcool.myshopify.com/collections/12th-gen-intel-processor/products/copper-ihs-kit-intel-12th-gen

I already have liquid metal under the IHS. That is all I ever use. I am not going to ruin the identification markings on the IHS by putting it on top. (See comment above.)

Yup, several times. Mount is perfect and temps are exactly the same every time. I even tried using the EKWB Velocity2 block and the temps were within 1°C of the Optimus Foundation block.

Edit #2 - I also have one of these on order. Cuplex Kryons NEXT 1700. Should be interesting.

    21856.jpg21847_4_1.jpg21847_5_1.jpg

huh, was about to suggest that it was likely with the redesigned rockitcool copper IHS, but brother Fox was quicker. weird they did that though, since it now doesnt have any mass advantage vs the stock IHS. but yeah, its a good replacement for using LM on top in order to avoid making the markings unreadable.

Most memorable to me was Half life 2, the atmosphere that was created by the graphics engine and audio was a huge leap forward, and when G man appeared on the train t=the hairs on the back of my neck stood up.  This also led to the Orange Box which was the best gaming purchase of my life.

Battlefield, I love playing with a squad of friends and the series has had some issues over the years and the worst release ever with 2042,  I still enjoy playing the game with my clan mates.

TW3, best single player game I have played and I still have it installed.

Subnautica,  I have played a lot of this simple survival game, I play on hardcore mode and see how far I can get without dying.

Icarus, I recently started playing this game which is quite a bit of fun, the Coop mode is great but my schedule is such that I usually play solo,  it still needs work but the developers put out a patch every Friday and have been making big changes to improve it.

I can't see this is a huge problem. And you don't need high end MB for gaming. Neither do you need it for content creation/normal use. Your normal costs will always be around half of what you have to pay on the Store.

Or cheaper if you buy used memory or have it from before. Use it one or two year, then pop in an cheap used 13900K (if you need more power) and ride it out. Can't be much cheaper than this. We don't have to pay a penny for selling our used items). I buy a lot used stuff for my hobby. And you don't have to or need to be with the newest all time 🙂

but now ure contradicting urself uncle Papu 😄 on one hand its this: ppl dont upgrade their system (i.e. your sons) and dont have money to splurge on hardware due to recession.

on the other hand, you say: hey look! u dont need much money on upgrading your whole platform every year, use cashback, promotions, etc!

and then thirdly, we see the INSANE amount of AM4 cpus being sold, outpacing both Zen4 and RPL combined! and lets not kid ourselves, those aint customers buying and building whole new AM4 systems, these are upgraders.

so, which is it? people seldomly upgrade but they switch their whole platform every year? we are in a recession but ppl do upgrade their systems frequently? and AM4 sales are high because nobody cares about platform longevity (as argued against AM5)? doesnt make sense man, u gotta decide what ur message actually is 😄 cant just switch everything just to make Intel look good and AMD look bad 😋

and yes, ive already said previously that depending on what your priorities are, either RPL or Zen4 is for you, so its not like im rooting for any "team" here in particular.

The 7900XTX is gonna really be awesome. I just wish these manufacturers could get enough of them out there in to everyone’s hands. Nvidia is literally milking supply of RTX4090 to artificially inflate the price. So right now the RTX4090 is roughly $2,000 bucks+ taxes it’s even more to buy one online. I’m gonna say about $2,300 after taxes and shipping.

Now with the 7900XTX costing $999, it’s only gonna end up being $1,500+ taxes on eBay maybe more due to no inventory and scalpers.

GPU manufacturers lived on a high of 2 years selling GPU’s at any price they wanted. Nvidia only learned how to control the market better. The 7900XTX will only fill the niche of what the RTX4090 actually cost on paper. AMD is not good with GPU inventory lol.

In the end we will have the $2,000 dollar 4090. Or the $1,500 dollar 7900XTX lol.

    Take your pick!

yep, Nvidia is already rerouting AD102 chips towards their pro and server brands, naturally way more margin plus more oncentives for impatient buyers to get 30 series cards that are still in stock everywhere.

lets hope AMD will be capable and also willing to keep RDNA3 in stock. they could potentially profit a lot with Nvidia being their usual dicks 😋

We are less than a month into 4090 launch and unlike Ampere no Cryptoboom or Pandemic with which to contend. While you can't get a, "NOW NOW NOW!" on it, by Jan/Feb they will be available. Even if Nvidia is artificially holding them back, demand is nowhere near of the sustained levels of 2020-2021 where supply never could catch up to demand as you had miners snatching up anything to throw into a rig even at grossly inflated costs.

    The market will adjust.

It just feels like a mild case of PTSD because of before but this is NOTHING like then.

PTSD for sure. out of curiosity i looked around the market in Europe for 4090s and its slim pickings at best. basically only scalpers on ebay and douchebag shops trying to make a quick buck. i mean, stock and offers is THERE, but not anywhere near MSRP. as best i can tell, on average were talking roughly 500-700€ above MSRP.

boy am i glad i got my Surprim X right at launch for exactly MSRP. at launch nobody thought anybody would buy the 4090 after the pandemic bloat and mining crash, so MSRP pricing was abound. now for similar pricing (or rather 50€ more) u can only get "trashy" cards by Manli and Inno3D 😅

4090 is the only ADA card launched. There isn't any other options if you want a brand new card. And new cards also means people will fight to get the cards first. Aka prices will go up above MSRP. At release/launch day I coud get a card a hell lot cheaper than what they cost now. But once the card was out for over a week or so the prices went up. Thats the  normal with a launch. The first one to buy have to pay higher prices. This is how the game is.

Once AMD is out with their new cards and nvidia launch 4080 there will be easier and easier to get 4090. And at more normal prices. The worst problem for me is what models that will be available. I don't want jump on a model I don't like or want. Then I will rather sit and wait what to come.

yep, exactly my experience with 4090 shopping.

lets hope so with upcoming availability and pricing. first AMD has to prove itself in 3rd party reviews, we dont want another big fat nothing burger....

I just open the door so fresh air come in. But 13900K run quite ok regarding temps as long you don't max it out. A lot better than Alder lake. And yet, my bin is about average or slightly above. I think I will gain from adding a second pump. Will see if I find one used and cheap. I have a spare pump but the pump tops is ecual expensive as a new pump, so.

Jep. I have seen some with good gain from delidding and some not. I think much is up to how good the soldering was done from Intel.

Regarding AMD. I mean if you have an AMD graphics card the Cpu scores will be lower in many benches. Have seen it myself (intel cpu and AMD graphics). Not sure whats up with AMD. Maybe I do something wrong, but I don't think so. So from what I have seen, I avoid this brand. Even if benches was a bit better than Intel. The Red pill just doesn't fit me 🙂

huh i havent heard about that cpu perf issue when running AMD gpus, that sounds weird! and cant speak from experience, the last AMD gpu i had was a 7970M in a laptop 😄

Really stupid move from Intel put resistors and capacitors mounted so close to the IHS. They know very well that a lot people delidde their Cpus. Only hardcore benchers on sub cooling don't delidde because liquid metal is bad on sub zero temps. Sub zero means only Intels tim is usable.

Edit. Good job bro Fox on the job 🙂

And for @tps3443He should forget sell his chips if he delidde it. Can't be used for LN2 then.

ha, tell ME about it in terms of stupid SMDs on cpus @7950X 😂 however, from what ive seen so far it might be more worth it to delid Zen4 vs. RPL. but so far no plans for delidding yet, still have to improve case airflow first before i do anything else.

as for delidding bad for LN2: dont XOC benchers delid anyways and completely fill up the package under the IHS with thermal paste? iirc the basically fill up every nook n cranny to improve overall heat transfer, i.e. even package gives off a bit of "side heat" that can be siphoned off to help overall thermals.

The pump in AIOs sit directly above the cold plate. I expect this help to reduce the clogging. And they use liquid that fits the cooling. And the metal alloy in the AIO components is matched.

    good info, noted!

Does not work with the contact frame and I don't want to use the stock ILM. Copper also infterior to nickle surfaces when using liquid metal.

Yes, it's clean.  I no longer use the Signature blocks because of the solid metal uniody housing. I prefer the clear plexi top on the Foundation so I can visually monitor the cleanliness of the cold plate.

yep good decision. the full copper IHS brings at best only 1-3C improvement vs. stock whereas the ILM can provide 7-8C on avg and up to 15C in outlier cases. so net one is better off going stock IHS + contact frame.

as for naked copper vs. nickel plated copper i dont think theres much difference with LM, at least not once u ensure the naked copper is surface saturated with LM first to avoid dryout.

Binning 7x 4090's..... wish he had binned the memory too and with more sustained tests but still interesting. That first MSI TRIO was a serious outlier pulling ~50-65w less.

cool, bookmarked! will watch right after im done posting 🙂

Had a trip to the second hand market at home. Look what I found...🙂 Aqua Computer flow sensor, high flow NEXT (tested by igorslab).Well below half price of a new. So I submitted a purchase request🙂 Almost all parts was sold out from the seller, so it was nice that the flow meter still was for sale.

The new one from today is one of the worst I have seen. Killed even the GPU power connector. How many have a ticking New Years bomb from nvidia home?😀 Yep, I'm quite sure there will be some that will see some nice fireballs and smoke well before New Years Eve fireworks show.

dammnit Papu ill unplug my 4090 right after i return home from my honeymoon to check on the pins 😱😅 there was a guy on overclock.net who went completely paranoid and unplugges his 4090 every single day to check on the pins. until je realized that doing so might actually bring about the connector demise much faster due to accumulating plugging cycles 😂

I just found this yt movie showing some capabilities of the new unreal engine, and i must say, this looks crazy good, the forrest looks so damn photorealistic. I just imagine a new Witcher game with this kind of detail!

damn, photorealistic indeed. basically looks like a real life recording of someone walking through the woods 😯
