Help selecting best NVMe SSD for P775TM1-G - preferably with heatsink
srs2236 replied to DLoa's topic in Sager & Clevo
Hi! From what I encountered having a PCI-E 4.0 NVME in 3.0 slot can be beneficial, but only a tiny tiny bit. It will also depend on the drive too. I have had drives like SN850 and 980 Pro perform the same if not worse (in SN850 case) than a 970 EVO Plus. At that time I found KC3000 to be the best choice for me. RAID0 can also be beneficial. However it comes with a data loss risk. It only improves performance in one specific configuration and that config makes it so that if any power loss occurs there is a high risk of data loss. I have completely lost my 2TB main storage once to this. So if you like to experiment with clocks and such this is a bad idea. I use some basic 4mm NVME heatsinks with K5 Pro in the middle and some rubber band to hold them. Also RAID has a impact on the CPU I just haven't measured how much. -
Nice! I would suggest trying to talk with the VRM, because the power calculation usually is not so straight forward. I have been wanting to do this for long time but didn't touch my machine for almost a year lol. Now I have got another P775 I want to put together and I have regained interest in my machine. Where did you get your 20mOhm shunt resistor? I want to replicate your mod as it seems to be safe. Also, did you ever try to restore G-Sync functionality? This is something I want to try when I get my other machine fixed with my old 2080. Having two of the exact same machines and one with working G-Sync might make it a whole lot easier. There was someone who had restored G-Sync functionality so it should be possible, unless the drivers make it impossible nowadays. What are your thoughts on this?

Glad you figured it out! I notice you have your RTX 3080 running at 180w. Did you shunt mod it?

I had similiar issue, but it was fixed for me with installing a driver and restarting. What error code is it? -
P750DM2 dark screen issue with 2080S or 3070 GPU swap
srs2236 replied to anassa's topic in Sager & Clevo
To be honest I am surprised you haven't tried this already😅 I think I asked you before if you can boot from a USB windows installation. Because if you can, it's 100% a windows problem. -

Can you make a backup of your current BIOS that you successfully flashed the TM version and send it to me? -

My guess is that DM machines might not have a compatible BIOS for 20/30 series cards. I could try and modify a BIOS version for you to try but for that you need a hardware flasher. Or, you could try flashing TM BIOS but I am not sure if they are compatible like that. -

Of course power plans won't change anything. The idea is to change the TDP in MSI Afterburner or any other GPU overclocking tool of your choice. Clevo Control Center doesn't support this. -
Hi! I have an AliExpress heatsink which was compatible with 30 series.

Some people use the regular 2080 with 200W mod on the P775 so I think 2080 Super should be fine too. You can always lower the TDP in software to 150W if there seems to be a power issue or something. That's just a guess though. Have you tried launching Windows installation from a USB flash drive OP? Does it stay black again past the BIOS or you can see the screen? I also would recommend testing external ports first too, both HDMI and Display Port if possible. -
Hi! Just tested latest driver as of today 546.65 and the TDP slider is still locked.

People with the Intel RAID EFI BIOS module: 18.31.3.5434 in their P775TM1-G BIOS can have updated Intel RST driver too: This Set is dated 03/08/2023 and installs the Intel RST drivers v18.37.7.1013 WHQL resp. v18.7.7.1013 WHQL: https://mega.nz/file/Io5BSapQ#lYZ_VaX_ct-vPkf5unyq9xbAZ7Pc4MRFgF1fPklALzQ

Maybe someone with P775TM1-G finds this useful. Just checked Intel ME software/driver and firmware. There are updates. You can update the firmware using command prompt and FWUpdLcl64 executable found in the System Tools -> FWUpdate -> WIN64 folder as admin and using this command line: FWUpdLcl64 -allowsv -f 11.8.94.4494_CON_H_DA_PRD_RGN_69E1B6FC.bin Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI/AMT) Version 2345.5.42.0 https://station-drivers.com/index.php/en/component/remository/Drivers/Intel/Management-Engine-Interface-(MEI)/Drivers/16.x/Intel-Management-Engine-Interface-(MEI-AMT)-Version-2345.5.42.0/lang,en-gb/ CSME 11.8 CON H DA v11.8.94.4494 https://mega.nz/folder/2Q0klQpA#6o04nlV_4xqfx76tjvgi4g/file/vZ0VhZxC CSME System Tools v11 r46 https://mega.nz/folder/qdVAyDSB#FLCPaDVIsPYiy2TAUjD7RQ/file/7JV2nZbI

I am not sure, if there would be compatibility problems, but the RTX 2080 is 150W and RTX 2080 Super is 200W. So that's a pretty big difference in terms of TDP. Not sure how that translates to performance but the difference is definitely there. Also I think the 2080 Super has a little bit more shader cores or something.

Do you mean the extra 15W for a total of 165w as it is on X170KM-G? I think so, I never tried a higher driver although I can try it perhaps and get you back with the results. But it most likely never came back. Don't see a reason why it would come back.

I haven't been home yet. And I don't know anything about the CPU. I will be home on Saturday!

Something like 23,35mm x 23,35mm. The die size is 545mm^2. I can take measurements when I get home if you want 100% accurate size.

clevo p870tm/tm1-g Official Clevo P870TM-G Thread
srs2236 replied to ViktorV's topic in Sager & Clevo
How will you try to do that?!?! That seems something like mission impossible to me... 😅 -
Couldn't you at this point just cut an additional copper heatsink with the thickness so that it is level with the case and solder it to the existing heatsink? The laptop will become much heavier but I think it would cool much better too and you wouldn't have the uglyness problem of the bottom of the laptop. Only downside is you ever stress your pc while it is sitting on your lap and you might burn your clothes or get skin burns lol =D Otherwise, I can agree it looks bad, however I know how the P775TM1-G heats up so I totally understand lol =D But what is that brown stuff near the exhaust?

Surely a beast of a P870 now =D Is this just for fun or are you actually going to use the P870 with some external desktop GPU? -
Might be of interest to some of the guys here with RTX 2080's in their P775TM1-G's. https://www.techpowerup.com/312631/nvidia-bios-signature-lock-broken-vbios-modding-and-crossflash-enabled-by-groundbreaking-new-tools?cp=2#comments Seems like full VBIOS modding is making a return up to 20 series cards. Unfortunately not for 30 series😭 This might mean one could raise power limit to 200W and still have a working display port out on Clevo machines. (Alienware 200W BIOS kills display port functionality on Clevo) Not only that, you could unlock voltages and perhaps, have more OC potential. Very cool stuff🔥

I can confirm this is most likely not the case as I have copper shims and high quality thermal pads on the chipset + I have like 0.2mm copper all along the keyboard and thermal pads between the keyboard and the metal chassis that chipset is being cooled by and also the RAM is cooled against my keyboard using thermal pads so, heat is not the issue here in my opinion. And I know because mine can get hot by the touch under heavy load. but it is weird that the D button fails first. For my first two keyboard the only button that failed was the D button. Very interesting to see someone else have the same issue. I thought it was just coincidence.
-
Well, before for me it was 2 keyboards dead with the exact same issue in like 3-4 month timeframe. That is a really bad failure rate if you ask me. And I wouldn't say they are cheap either, they in that time for example were hard to find they wasn't even on aliexpress and nobody had them used. I had to message someones selling a Clevo for parts and I asked only about keyboard. And once they came out on AliExpress they were litterally 100euros. IDK whats cheap to others but 100euros is definately not cheap for me. I think my replacement from the guy in the end cost 60euros + I sent him my old broken one so he had something to put in its place.
-
For me unfortunately buying a new one was the only option. Well not exactly new, I bought used. I figured it didn't have much use because backlight works well for all colors even still. Been playing hard mashing buttons on Rocket League for 8 months now, still going strong! I guess it depends on how lucky you get with the keyboards..

Your soldering work looks amazing! Mine was not pretty, but does the job I guess! It was quite difficult to solder them.. Did you use hot air? I used two soldering irons with the help of a friend =D I have too much solder on the joints, but I was afraid it will not make good connection otherwise because of poor solder melting.
