  1. Very nice, looks like die is offset on them all. Any idea on pricing?
  2. Someone with a bga station could probably swap the cores and it would probably work fine. There was no reason for them to switch designs, they just didn't want us R1 users upgrading to the R2 gpu. but to be honest it's hardly an upgrade. Would have been better if an R3 with RTX 3080Ti was made.
  3. Let us know, would be very interesting to see if it fits in, although you'll need to drill a hole for the sd card reader lol
  4. I got a m4600 originally to dissect the 2960XM from it for my Alienware M18xR1. It originally needed a bottom cover, cpu fan and battery. I ended up getting it all minus the battery. I did borrow a battery from a M4800 and found out it doesn't charge. All my AC Adapters (180w, 210w, 330w, 240w) show us as unknown ac adapter. I replaced the dc jack recently and it still has the same issue. Is it a motherboard issue? Was hoping to get it fully running at this point.
  5. Wow that RX6600 MXM card is interesting. Looks close to full MXM 3.0b spec, would be interesting to see which laptops it works in. Couldn't find any place to buy the eGPU package that includes it.
  6. Do the command in command prompt and when you get the error, close laptop lid to put laptop in sleep mode (make sure it goes to sleep!) Now open lid back up and try command again
  7. Yes exe method works on all AW even 2nd gen Sandy Bridge based laptops. I got 85hz on AW18 & 80hz on M18xR2 fully stable (technically 90hz & 85hz but I like to keep it down one level) One thing to keep in mind is, letting the display "warm up" for 20 minutes may result in a higher OC. This also means that OC will require the display to 'warm up" until you can use it after laptop has been off for awhile.
  8. Just wanted to let everyone else know as mentioned this isn’t windows 11 exclusive. I had the option on in 10 and also had bsod. this seems to affect SG mode systems with upgrades such as M18xR2 M17xR4 AW18 AW 17 R1 so if you’re getting bsods this is the first thing to check. I spent months trying to fix this before.
  9. On ebay maybe you’ll get $700 for it with that config. List it at $1000 with a make offer button and see what happens
  10. I'd throw it on eBay honestly.
  11. Interesting, I wonder if the same can be done for my RTX 3000 MXM card. 80W TDP is too low, 120W alone would increase performance very nicely.
  12. Wow that looks identical to the A4500 MXM I pre-order from Aetina. Those clocks speeds are looking good! Way better than the current soldered A4500 mobile GPUs. My GPU says 115W TGP, this one says 125W TGP. I wonder if my clocks will be lower, that will suck. @MS-16L13are you in US? Could you also get custom heatsink for Alienware M18xR2 that compensates that offset A4500 core?
  13. It may be more than just a UEFI thing actually. I've been trying for awhile now and if it truly was a UEFI only issue, the vBIOS I made should work fine. Unless there is so other mods needed in vBIOS. R2 BIOS with R2 bios chip would be interesting. It may work but no one has tried it yet. I don't know if @Prema was ever involved in the Alienware modding scene back then, but I bet he can solve the issue whether UEFI vBIOS mod is needed or sBIOS needs to be modded. The member Swhick who made legacy 900M possible on M18xR2 said he may have figured it out but he never uploaded the BIOS and I have no idea if anyone else ever got it from him. He didn't give it to me at the time because I didn't have a programmer. @Maxware79 The Audio issue only seems to affect M17xR3. On my M18xR1, single 880M and 880M SLI work fine without ever needing to touch audio option in BIOS or drivers. I also got 880M working in M17xR3 somehow with audio perfectly fine. It's just in the way you install drivers. @razor0601 does the holding at the alienhead happen with my vBIOS or the stock vBIOS or both?
  14. they changed the 2080 super design slightly so we can't get it into area 51m r1 easily. Since there was no R3 for RTX 3000 series we are stuck here. I wouldn't be surprised if VBIOS flash + 2080S core swap worked fine.
  15. VRAM 4GB 256-Bit M4000M 3GB/6GB 192-Bit 970M Otherwise pretty much same
  16. There A05 Swhick updated BIOS as well available in Alienware High Performance Club.
  17. We had GTX 1080 working in M18xR2 and AW18. No aux power needed even though connector was there. It throttled a lot in AW18. M18xR2 did a much better job with stock 150w vBIOS. It was the Aetina GTX 1080 and required heatsink mod.
  18. It's complicated. The MUX switching in M18xR1/M17xR3 is not the same in M18xR2/M17xR4. I don't remember the specifics but the way it is done is NOT the same way as modern nVidia Optimus. If this was true we would have all GPUs working by now in these systems. This is why it makes it difficult to upgrade as well as the BIOS have UEFI conflict. But I am hoping we can finally solve this mystery. This is apparently what has been said although not sure if that is 100% true. My 880M SLI is using UEFI vBIOS and those are working. Another interesting thing, M1200 & M2000M work in M18xR1/M17xR3. These are first gen maxwells. Something was changed with 2nd gen maxwells. Trying to figure out what it is these last few weeks. We need someone who is good with nVidia vBIOS & InsydeBIOS. I have tried contacting people but not many are interested in doing this. Although I do have hope it'll work because of the one member claiming M5000M working in M17xR3/M18xR1. It does seem to point to something in vBIOS that was changed. More proof of this is the MSI 3GB 970M/MSI 4GB 980M work but cause BIOS restart in M18xR1.
  19. Once you mod corners and heatsink it will fit. M18xR2 can handle 220W GPU and M17x can handle 180W GPU in MXM slot. They are not limited like newer Aw18 & Aw17. Personally we have seen 150w 1080 work in M18xR2 so up to 150w should work fine without aux power.
  20. 880M SLI works fine: https://www.3dmark.com/fs/28053101 Try your 970m 3GB MSI card. It SHOULD work and boot up. Problem we had was it kept rebooting in BIOS screen. I also have Clevo 970m I have been trying to get to work in M17xR3 (same platform). I have been trying to get it to work on M17xR3. I am using 3D screen so since you are using M18x R1 with LVDS it might have better chance to work. Make sure you are on unlocked BIOS. SG mode will probably work and give you BIOS restart issue but good starting point. PEG mode, make sure you go to advanced video options and integrated display device is turned to disabled. then do PEG and try. Try this vBIOS for Clevo 970m in M18xR1 after you've tried MSI 3GB 970M. It's for Clevo 6GB card I have been trying. Note on Clevo 970m, Mine is NON G-SYNC 13D8 device id. This is the one you want. If you have G-Sync model send me vBIOS and I'll try and mod it. BTW since you have m18x r1 with those gpus it will make life easier both of us testing vBIOS, you in m18x r1, me in m17x r3. So just report results per card per vBIOS and we'll go from there. Let's get 900M series working in these laptops. So far one user from our AW Club claims M5000M working in M17xR3 & M18xR1 using modified vBIOS (removing UEFI GOP from vBIOS) so that is what I have been trying. 970mnogopmbe.rom 970mnogopnoifrmbe.rom
  21. I get 16k firestrike graphics score, so it's similar to rtx 2060 performance. I went with RTX 3000 becuase: 1) This is a professional well-built gpu made for medical, military, etc. It will outlast all of those 1070 gpus that are "standard mxm 3.0b" format 2) RTX 3000 supports DLSS, Ray-Tracing, has full HVEC support (I can play my 8K video from Nikon Z9 smoothly) 3) The RTX 3000's I purchased were only around $150-200 more than the GTX 1070 card. This card MSRP is $1,534 so I paid an excellent price. 4) GTX 1070 has been done many times, no fun in that. Left slot in M18xR2 is primary. GPU needs to go there. On AW18 it can be in either slot.
  22. No you will have to contact them. I do know adlink wanted $1,534 for a rtx 3000.
  23. You need to contact Aetina. Go to their website and find contact email. Obviously don’t tell them you’re putting it in a laptop. Just say you’re looking to upgrade from P5000 or RTX 5000 or something. I will warn you, you can buy a whole new laptop for the price of the mxm itself
