Literally any card up to 4090 (SG in 18, PEG in 17) works. I’m already working on something for R1/R2, it’s a bootable usb that basically will be unlocked bios options but its lower priority right now since I want to do other projects

It's useless without any information as to how to bypass boot guard, or if pch was swapped, etc. like I said, I can take a spi dump, unlock it, but when you flash it, your laptop will brick due to boot guard

unlocking bios is easy. I've done it. the PROBLEM is the PCH. It has boot guard. only way to flash unlocked bios is to remove PCH using BGA station and replace PCH with one without boot guard. Unless someone else has found a way to bypass boot guard on 9th gen cpu. I think only 8thg gen and older has been bypassed. I cannot flash bios because the laptop won't accept it.

I still need to test this, probably with rtx 4090 + aw17 first since it's easier to disassmble

if I cared about gaming, I would have not sold my Area-51m 18 with rtx 5090 mobile, or I would buy a RTX 5090 in my desktop. I have 2xRTX Titans in SLI with Xeon W7-3465X on my desktop with 4K 120hz TV to game. For my purposes I need 4K panel for resolution and color accuracy. most of my computers are for collection/upgrading

SG mode isn't a fix , I would try older drivers in PEG, it should work. As for the Intel GPU issue, you need to do the registry mod to make the nvidia gpu the render gpu. I'll see if I have my instructions posted here somewhere

I ended up buying a brand new in box area-51m r2 maxed out. i9 10-cre, 64gb ram, 4 ssds, rtx 2080 super, 4k display. still got my r1 of course

did you try an older driver? it most likely is a edid issue , I haven't tried recently on my m15x to try my fix.

that's weird, I have that issue on M15x with 980m but never had that issue on M17xR3 using 980m/m3000m. try a driver older than the 550.xx series

any driver. use nvcleaninstall to add hardware support to the official driver

I have a 880M running on my M17xR1. Single GPU. It does ocnflict with the internal hd audio, need to see if swapping the driver install order fixes white screen issue like on M17xR3. I think 780M should work & 680m without the hd audio conflict. You can reusethe heatsinks, I think the SLI cable form fermi to maxwell is the same but 260M is different

they will say whatever, just like the eDP thing. They don't control anything. the design is made by pro partners/nvidia. the vbios is whichever vbios gets leaked that can work in mxm form. I'm also going to pass for now. At that price i'd rather buy the pro ada 6000 mxm card which is high quality. Heatsink shouldn't be a huge issue. the die size is determined by nvidia architecture.

I told you design will be different. design is based on the pro cards. I'd rather have my 4090 than that 5080. I'll see if I can sell some stuff for 5090 later. Would be fun to get working in AW18.

It can work in M18xR2 in SG mode but not PEG. Might need to check heatsink. In M17xR3, do you have 120hz 3D panel or LVDS 60hz panel? Don't know if you saw my new custom bios but I got P5000 & RTX 4000 working in M17xR3 using eDP 3D 120hz panel.

I bought both part numbers of dmc cards along with a antenna for 17 r1. my m14x r2 already has an antenna so I can test both cards

His bios was over 12MB already and it uses a newer Intel ME. It's not "simple" to switch from DP_D to DP_B in the laptop, if it was it would be done already. Again everyone who only thinks in hardware takes software way too lightly. I'm a hardware person myself, but after these last few months working on bios modding, I see how tedious it is just to implement one thing. For me this is low priority for now. Once I have done my other mods I can take a look, but edid being a simple issue, it's not much of an issue to me. I'm going to make a simple windows program that autofixes and autodetects this in the future, but that's after I get my 4090 heatsink and swap the eDP panel for my 17 R1.

Janepa said that on M18xR2 and it requires heavy bios modding and a new bios chip to support a larger bios. I haven't looked into that myself yet but it's something I can look in the future. It's much easier to make a small app for windows that fixes the edid issue if the bios and everything works fine (only windows issue)
