Clevo P570WM MXM upgradability forum
Developer79 replied to SuperMG's topic in Components & Upgrades
Hi, my tests with my board showed me how everything works in general, so I already knew what to look out for. When designing the circuit diagrams, I took into account many more scenarios than are actually needed. A lot of things can also be automated. The bottom line is that it works and you can use the laptop normally with eDP as it was originally designed. -

They're not interested in that because they only want to sell the latest laptops! Such constraints arise regularly because of the monetary system. We can only help ourselves!!! -

This is my first test with the P870TM and eDP and an MXM card other than Clevo's! The P870TM works without any problems with the MXM card from X-Vision! Here's the configuration again: P870TM / 9900KF / RTX 4070 MXM (X-Vision and BiosUpdate) and eDP display UHD 60Hz display. All other data can be found in the image. Here is a picture: -

Here is a test with Horizon Forbidden West using the P870TM / CPU 9900KF / RTX 5070Ti and my adapter set: All settings are exactly the same as on the desktop PC. -

"If this development complete that make MXM cards for P870 series dispensable." Yes, that was my plan for the future. "What is the output wattage of your DC-DC?" Approximately 450W! This is a maximum value, but should not be applied to the respective graphics card. It is better to use less power, also because of the heat generation! "Could you use 2 DC-DC powering one from the master and the second from the slave? So you can have two 8 pin 150W." I applied this and everything is set up! You can see from the maximum power that I am using this solution. My power supply unit takes the power from both the master and slave channels! "The vapour designed for two 1080 with almost 400W in theory could it work with desktop card?" Yes, theoretically, but unfortunately the geometric dimensions are somewhat unfavorable. That was also my goal, but unfortunately it is not feasible. A separate cooling solution is required. I have already developed one. Unfortunately, only water cooling is possible. Or a separate vapor chamber could be produced! That would also work! "What about the big ones(4080/4090 and 5080/5090) with the 12VHPWR? Do you planning to make a PSU for them or these are using too much?" It also works for the models! Everything is customizable. The performance is okay, but not recommended because it generates too much heat. My current test with the RTX5070Ti has as much power as a desktop PC and is much faster than an RTX5090 laptop! Even the new CPUs don't play a huge role. In UHD gaming, my combination is almost as fast as a current desktop PC with the latest components. I think that's really enough for a laptop. I've set my target graphics card to RTX5070/Ti. The best gaming performance, less heat, and faster than any of the latest laptops! "Do you planning to make your own DP to eDP converter to use the internal screen?" I developed my solution so that the internal display and an external display can be operated. The laptop should remain in its original condition, so I had to think about how the internal display and an external display could be connected normally! In short, everything works internally! -

Yes, but everything is original in your project with the 4060 MXM. No, the pin assignment looks normal. -

Yes, I developed everything myself for the P870TM. It also works for the other P870xx models except for the P870DMG. Good question about the power supply. I developed a power board to supply 12V. Everything runs internally via graphics card power supply for the GTX1080 SLI series for the P870xx at the time. I also have pictures of the installation and with my development tool. Then the laptop can be locked and used as built by Clevo. -

You need to take a closer look at the back. Of course everything is routed. If it's routed, it works! -

Hi, The 9th Gen Intel only uses PCIe 3.0! But I can reassure you that an RTX5090 laptop with HX370 is not nearly as fast for gaming as the combination of P870TM 9th and RTX50xx desktop series! I'm still running benchmarks. -

Hi, Yes, you're right! The adapter I developed also uses this pin assignment. I can control everything via jumpers on my board! Pins 23/25 are simple jumpers for switching on, and pin 27 is pulse width modulated. However, I found out during my tests that this pin is not necessary. In the picture, you can see how I have taken the PINs into account on my board! Greetz -
