I would love to have a quad boot system. 8tb drive sectioned into 2tb for each system. Win 11, Chrome OS, MacOS and linux of some flavor. Would be a fun system for sure. -

They are really thin and light. I love them. For the money, I have not seen anything that I like as much. If money were not an issue, I would probably be rocking an Asus ProArt 16 or Razer 16. But, my trusty 14" two in one from dell with a few upgrades works for me now!. As for the old acer, it's a carbon copy of my other sons macbook air. Just as thin and light, screen resolution is the same, has more upgradability with an extra ram slot and 2.5 inch ssd / hdd bay. I am going to format that and put linux on it. I was going to do a hackintosh, but screw that. -

You can see my notebook, and my sons two in this thread. The wife's was absent from that photo as I was replacing the screen in his dell. Mine is center, his old acer that still chugs along nicely is on the left, and his new to him (my old) dell is on the right with it's new touchscreen, 16gb of ram and a 500gb ssd. -

I do. But the site here is very picky about how many you can post. -
There is a youtube video on converting gnome to a very "macOS style" setup. I think I am going to try that and see how it goes.

Yours must be faulty. My Noctua's are awesome, silent but move the air that's needed to be moved efficiently. I will put pictures of my system up when I get my new monitor stand finish later today. The build is a Dell XPS 8940 SE, 10700, 2070 super, 128gb ram, 2tb NVME SSD, 1tb ssd, 512gb ssd, 8tb HDD, firewire card, and full Noctua cooling. All business, no flash. -
I have a bunch of stuff to do now. New dual monitor mount for the desk, new ssd pci e card for the acer server, and then load on the server OS to get it all going.

Can I run the OS in my server off of a PCI-E adapter?
kojack replied to kojack's topic in Desktop Hardware
I received the adapter today. I have to install a new stereo in my jeep, finish the basement reno and mount my monitors on my new dual monitor stand. After that, I am going to get after the server build. This should be fun. I need to get a new 120mm Noctua fan and see if I can add a low low low profile Noctua cpu cooler. Also, I need to pick up 16gb of ddr3 desktop ram to max out the ram on the server. Once that is done, I will load it with 4 of the biggest HDD I can find. Stay tuned for some updates soon! -
Dell xps 13 plus. Awesome thin and light notebook. Well designed, fast, great screen, great battery life. It's an overall great system.

It's easier and cheaper to produce cool air than hot air. Heating my large house in -30 deg weather takes ALOT of energy. I could do with with wood and be more efficient but damn, it's alot of work.

No. Not on our house. Our power bill in the summer is around 250 a month and goes to 500-700 in the winter with most of that going to heating our home. We have a total of 4500 sqft on 3 floors. When we were using our 120,000 btu electric furnace to heat our home in the winter we saw 1200 dollar a month power bills in the winter 😂 I let my dog out this morning at 5:30 and it was 21 degrees then.

I just replaced the touchscreen on my son's Inspiron 5368. It was easy and took me about 30 mins. It's working perfect and have no issues with it at all. I would spend the extra and buy direct from dell however. The aftermarket parts are not to the quality. I ordered a base cover for my notebook and it never fit correctly and was the wrong color. I ordered the screen and the correct bottom and they both fit perfect. Buy your parts from dell.

A quick change of the suspension and you got a cone dodging beast. Not a problem.

Don't be so quick to judge. Diamond star imports motor out of a eagle talon installed in the woody van...FUN TIMES!

I have used elementary OS in the past and it's like OSX 7. Not really a modern interpretation of MacOS. I will have a closer look at budgie and see how that runs! thanks.

I own the 10th gen but I have not used the tab s7. I do have an A8 Samsung tablet. while, a great budget device it does not hold a candle to the ipad. With regards to tablets, ipad is more or less the best you can get. The only issue I have with my 10th gen is the wonky way you have to pair your pencil. You have to purchase a dongle/adapter, not included with the pencil or tablet. Other than that it's been really great. I have mine de'appled for the most part and use Microsoft for all my productivity software.

I am looking to kill 2 birds with 1 stone here. I am wanting to try macos and linux, so why not combine both and see how I like it. What is the most MacOS like linux distro available that can run on older i5 with hd4000 graphics.

We have a new service provider in Canada too called Maple WIFI. 159.00 a month for unlimited 4g/LTE wireless internet. My wife and I are getting that for when we travel. Add in a booster in our jeep and we should get reliable internet for working remotely from almost anywhere we want to travel. What's the alititude of your place in France? Also, are you close to the tour route? We want to follow the race from start to finish and travel along with the entire thing. Best sporting event next to the stanley cup!

NYC wasn't from the wildfires, it was the gates of hell opening up to accept Pat Robertson.

Here's mine as of right now. Temps will increase at around 4pm, drop off around 6-7pm and then be cool in the evening...rinse and repeat for 2 more days. then we get some rain and then back to seasonal temps of 22-25. We have our AC on all winter in our bedroom, we like it cool and dry. The ac goes on around mid may most years and don't get turned off until October. Maybe into November like last year. We have a 12k btu heat pump/ac in our bedroom and a 18k btu in our family room. We are just finishing our renovation of our basement and we are installing a 24k btu unit down there. AC is not really needed down there, nice and cool. The heat pump will be for heat more than ac. We will take advantage of the dehumidifier settings in it too.

I finally got all the parts and time to complete the screen repair and upgrades on Colin's new to him dell. Here's a little flow chart of what I did. I tried to attach pictures but they are all too big in file size. First I gathered everything I needed to do the repairs and upgrades. I got a new screen, 16gb of crucial ballistix ram, a 480gb kingston a400 ssd (trusty ssds for sata use), a new charger for the system, and some of my Noctua NH-T1 paste. So starting with the screen. I popped apart the screen, which was very easy to do and disconnected all the sensors, camera, and ribbon cable for the panel. I reversed the steps on the new panel and snapped it all into place. One snap on the bottom corner is not going into place correctly so I will fix that after windows and all drivers and upgrades are done. Fire it up, and LCD and touch is all working. Fix one...complete. Moving on to part 2. I popped out the drive, ram and removed the cpu cooler from the system. I installed the new ram, ssd and cleaned off the crap paste that was on the cpu and gpu cores. I then put some NT-H1 paste on both cores, and installed the cooler again, applying even pressure on the screws going from opposite corners of the cooler. After that was all complete and a dusting was done, I closed up the bottom the system and got my windows 11 install key. I fired up the system, boom...windows installing. Its now installed and I am working on adding the required drivers from Dell to get the system completely new and fresh. I know one thing. The fans on the little 4405U cpu spin way more than my 1165g7 unit. Ha ha. Hopefully someone can tell me how to post multiple pictures here.
