  1. I do not think there is a way to tell in Linux. Nobody doing Linux software development cares enough to have taken time to do it. They might be Linux enthusiasts, but it seems that none (or very few) are actually performance PC hardware enthusiasts. Those that are use Windows for that and Linux for everything else.
  2. I have not seen Samsung or Hynix GDDR6X (only GDDR6 - no X). My Kingpin card Micron. My 3060 Ti FTW3 has Samsung GDDR6 (no X). You can see what brand the memory is on the main tab of GPU-Z.
  3. I paid $1799 for the 4090 Suprim Liquid X and other than the HOF like you have it is the best 4090 money can buy. Excluding the HOF it is at the top of the food chain in terms of power delivery design and probably has no match except for the Strix that is never available and always overpriced, and has a terrible warranty by a horrible company. I would definitely pay the extra to get the HOF, but I would not pay extra for a Strix. I would accept a Zotac AMP Extreme AIRO if I could get it for $1799, or a Suprim X (no liquid). The only thing I did not like about the Liqud X was the AIO cooler. I never even removed the plastic film on it because I had no intention of leaving it. Being able to identify with certaintly exactly what brand of VRAM is going to be used by a particular OEM on a particular GPU model is challenging. We have seen examples of them using what is available to them, which might fluctuate to some degree.
  4. Looks like Roman is having issues with the Strix 4090 not functioning in 16x mode. I think he is right about the memory. I have noticed that on Port Royal scores as well. Applied to 3090 as well. It kind of makes sense when you consider that Chinese people are generally not very large people. Those gloves are probably "normal" size in their culture. They are generally not very tall and do not have large hands or feet. They are generally healthier though, due to diet and lifestyle. It was an issue for sure on 20-series. GDDR Memory (including Micron) has improved with time, but I generally agree that SK Hynix and Samsung are preferred for both GDDR and system memory. Micron is generally fine for normal use scenarios, but usually does not overclock well. That seems to not be true though with GDDR6X. Micron clocks right along fine with GDDR6X, but no intel on whether or not it is durable.
  5. White tells you that BIOS #1 is selected. If you move the selection switch to BIOS #2 it will turn a really icky bright red color. Both of the bright LEDs suck, but the red is a whole lot worse. I agree. It acts like it has an onboard fuse that is blown or something. It was working fine. I wasn't using the computer when it stopped working, it was just idling with nothing open except for Outlook. I would if I could get it for $1799 USD after Amazon refunds my money. But, I don't want to pay $2,000+ for a GPU. Too much. Even $1800 is too much. Since the only reason I want it is for benching, and I don't make any money benching or get cherry picked parts for free, it is too much money just for fun. That ludicrous cost starts taking the fun out of it if I think about how much it cost me, and then I start regretting it. As soon as I've benched it as far as it can go, then I start regretting it all over again because all the fun and games are over at that point and there is not left to do that is exciting.
  6. Just for giggles, I put the 4090 in the second PCIe slot on the Dark mobo and connected everything. Booted from the 3060 Ti in the primary slot and loaded Windows. Nothing in Device Manager. It does not even detect that it is in the slot, which is consistent with the BIOS error D6 (no graphics device found).
  7. That is exactly why I bought it from Amazon. It was a rare opportunity for the price on a "sold and shipped" option. All of the other sources are about $300 more. I never would have purchased it anywhere except Amazon or Best Buy (since I have no Microcenter) because of their return policy.
  8. It has. I'm not sure I am going to replace it. Had Amazon had another in stock and could have exchanged it, I would have. There was a part of me that regretted spending $1799 on it, so we'll see once the refund shows up. Definitely not going to do anything until the money is back in my account.
  9. Well, my Suprim died today. While working on my other computer I looked over and saw the screen was black, like it had gone to sleep. I always disable that. Jiggled the mouse and tapped a few keys and nothing. Powered off and on and motherboard beeps and shows D6. Pulled it out and tried it on the other computer and same thing. Started a refund with Amazon. No exchange available, so I put the 3060 Ti in my benching rig while I ponder whether or not to bother finding another 4090. I am so glad that I hadn't already sold the spare GPU. I'd be up the creek with no paddle if I had.
  10. It is easy to forget, and some people have never experienced, what a difference thread, core and channel count can make. HEDT overclockers understand based on experience that "clock is king" only applies in an apples-to-apples comparison. A 32C/64T CPU with octa-channel memory can do a whole heck of a lot more more during the same span of time than a CPU with half as many cores and threads and half as many memory channels. You'd be hard-pressed to be able to push the consumer CPU hard enough to close the gap. The exception can be when the consumer CPU is newer tech with a significantly higher IPC performance. You can fairly easily do this when the HEDT CPU is an antique. But, that (again) would not be an apple-to-apple comparison. The one stand-out about the antique HEDT CPU is how long it can remain king of the hill. It can usually outperform a consumer platform anywhere from 3 to 5 years, depending on how fast things are advancing on the consumer side.
  11. 4K and 8K place less emphasis on the CPU and RAM performance (though they still play a role to some degree) and force the GPU into performing most of the work. 12. If you can get the XOC vBIOS and app from Galax let's try it with my Suprim and see what happens. You never know. There were things that were not supposed to work like the Kingpin vBIOS and Classified tool did work with my shunt modded 2080 Ti FTW3. The KPE vBIOS worked great and even the Classified tool increased the voltage. The sliders did not work on the Classified tool, but simply launching it caused the voltage max to increase. I used the voltage curve tool with MSI Afterburner to trick it into going higher. I will take the extra GPU core voltage any way it can get it. I think you have to contact Galax to get it with proof of ownership of the HOF card, just as the only way you could get the XOC vBIOS and Classified tool for EVGA was to email Vince and provide your EVGA invoice and serial number. I am using the 666W HOF vBIOS right now. I think they may have a 1000W HOF XOC vBIOS for the 4090. The 2000W HOF XOC vBIOS also worked fine on my 2080 Ti FTW3. I think you made the right decision. I am glad that the Strix GPU was never available and you ended up with the HOF. I believe you are going to be better off in every way with the HOF. I have heard Galax warranty service sucks, but we already know that is true of ASUS. I doubt Galax is worse than ASUS. QC from ASUS is also terrible. Galax did not get the reputation they have by selling sloppy broken garbage like ASUS does.
  13. Wow, those fans are crazy. 😄 I wonder where that XOC app that looks a bit like Classified can be downloaded? I would love to try that on my GPU to see if it functions. Classified does not. I tried Google searching and nothing, and I do not find it on their web site.

  16. That is the one you were using on the GPU you returned? I have the basic plastic $20 CableMod cable and it is working OK. None of the nicer sleeved "Pro" cables were available. Which type do you have? I have a sleeved Pro version on order.
  17. It is not competition. It is staged/rigged and the selected players are predestined for having the illusion of greatness bestowed upon them. The only way that they can make sure things go according to plan is by keeping secrets and denying access to those not selected. There is no intent that anything be fair, only that things happen exactly as planned.
  18. It looks like the Trio and Suprim Corsair XG7 blocks are now available for order. I believe I will be getting one from Corsair, but do not have confirmation yet. Now I wish I had not ordered the Barrow block, LOL. https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Custom-Cooling/Blocks/GPU-Blocks/Hydro-X-Series-XG7-RGB-40-SERIES-GPU-Water-Block/p/CX-9020021-WW I will use this as a baseline to compare thermals with the stock AIO versus full GPU block. 20 loops of Port Royal got it pretty toasty. 75°C ambient temperature, all stock except max fans set manually. GPU Core Temp Max: 62.3°C GPU Hot Spot Max: 78.1°C Memory Temp Max: 72.0°C GPU Power Draw: 444W https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/89176892
  19. I am not sure of the answer because I have never had more than 2-way SLI. Maybe @johnkssscan answer, or know where you can get a 3-way SLI bridge. I'm starting to have second thoughts about selling the 3090 KPE. I want the money more than the GPU right now, but I might regret it later. I'm thinking I should be able to get about $400 for the 3060 Ti FTW3 given it has a waterblock and shunt modded (and still has the original air cooler available). Thoughts? I could also separate the two, sell the block by itself and the GPU for a bit less, say $350. I had to take the backplate block off for now because I can't fit the side panel on the case with the elbows on facing the glass. If I keep it, I will figure a new way to route the tubing to include that. Probably route the return line through it first, (in series versus parallel as I had it before,) then exit the case.
  20. I think it is definitely the best option. I don't like how it looks, but for overclocking it should be the best option available and aesthetics are secondary. I also like the idea of choosing most brands over ASUS anyway. (But, you already know this.)
  21. Wonderful. Congratulations. The key to being extraordinary will be in unlocked voltage. Hopefully, Galax hasn't surrendered to the Green Goblin in that regard. Build quality aside, that has been the only reason the Kingpin and HOF GPUs have been able to shine. Without the voltage control they're just an extremely overbuilt GeFarts GPU that has been emasculated like the belly-button gamerboy variety.
