Yeah, that's kind of like it, although, to add insult to the injury there is no way to unscrew this (unlike what the picture above would suggests).  Gentle wiggling  didn't quite cut it, this thing is seriously stuck. I do have to give it to them: installing the drive was indeed extremely simple.... 🤨

Exactly right, the design is flawed. Gentle (and not so gentle) pressing didn't do it, attempting to lever from different directions didn't do it. Need to get mini-pliers for this, as I can't even get a proper grip with my fingers. SSD dimensions could be a factor - this trapped a Firecuda 530 which seems to be very slightly on a thicker side.

Running the same PSU. Only needed a new fan over the years. Now it's kind of hard to even consider other brands, however well reviewed, as those reviews don't take the all-important reliability into account (with the exception of the SuperNova T2, where reviewers piggyback on the mining reputation).

I did try that, but perhaps not strong enough. Will give this another go armed with pliers.

I am not objecting to the idea of making things easier, but if you're going to do it - make it right. It needs to outperform the previous solution (including in terms of reliability), and this mechanism is very clearly too crude and flaky. I mean for starters one should be able to unscrew the whole retention mechanism if needed - there is no way to do that on this particular M.2 slot.

Maybe it's done differently on the Unify-X, but on the ACE the retainers at the end of the M.2 slots are fixed!

There are extra spare ones that can be used for some short SSDs. The following excerpt from the manual illustrates. Looks like they saved up on a couple of screws here...

1M6Cge3.png

Edit: the manual is also wrong - the clips move on the opposite side - sort of from 12 to 6 o'clock forward to lock, whereas the manual suggests the mechanism is locked in counter-clockwise manner. Oh dear.

A bit of a positive update: I managed to get the SSD out, and now it's clear what went wrong - I must have pushed the latch too far counter-clockwise (I guess thinking that would secure the SSD well). The mechanism works as intended if the latch is operated exactly as per the manual. Too bad it's possible to operate it another way and jam it.

Also seeing almost 50% improvement in some benchmarks with the 13900K + boosted RAM vs 12900KS. Pretty impressive. It's worth noting though that about half of the RAM clock/CL boost was enabled by a BIOS update, even before I swapped the CPUs.

(2) people so far on Overclock.net who say the Rocket cool copper IHS with the bending frame work together just fine. And apparently it does fit

Also, have you tried remounting that 13900K IHS again with LM. Your results just seem really really low. I keep hearing 11C reduction. And you are saying the same or worse temps. Just kind of surprising that it did not help is all.

Have you double checked your application and mount?

If that is true it has been completely redesigned from what it was. I purchased one for 12th Gen and it is as wide as the CPU with cutouts for the "wings" and SMDs near the edge of the PCB. The one I purchase was way too big for the opening in the contact frame. So, it was either totally redesigned to match stock dimensions or the people saying that are full of baloney.

Edit: it has been totally redesigned. That is good news. I got one of the first 12th Gen delid tool and copper IHS, so they probably figured out people wanted to use the contact frame instead of the stock ILM. I am ordering one so I can use liquid metal on top and preserve my stock IHS. https://rockitcool.myshopify.com/collections/12th-gen-intel-processor/products/copper-ihs-kit-intel-12th-gen

I already have liquid metal under the IHS. That is all I ever use. I am not going to ruin the identification markings on the IHS by putting it on top. (See comment above.)

Yup, several times. Mount is perfect and temps are exactly the same every time. I even tried using the EKWB Velocity2 block and the temps were within 1°C of the Optimus Foundation block.

Edit #2 - I also have one of these on order. Cuplex Kryons NEXT 1700. Should be interesting.

Had a trip to the second hand market at home. Look what I found...🙂 Aqua Computer flow sensor, high flow NEXT (tested by igorslab). And well below half the price of a new. So I submitted a purchase request🙂 Almost all parts was sold out from the seller, so it was nice that the flow meter still was for sale.

I won the deal🙂  And now I have to buy a few more compression fittings. Those I have in spare is wrong outer diameter' oh'well

Maybe CableMods is next on the frying list?😀 And why did CableMod go for double seam terminals? Wasn't it Buildzoid that said this type cheapo made adapters (with dual split) from Nvidia you should avoid?

I don’t think this is supposed to happen? Brand new pro cable kit, was doing back of case cable management and this pin pulled completely out on GPU side while plugged in.

4080 16GB = 28.5k GPU vs ~23.5k 3090ti.

Only logical upgrade is the 4090 / 7900xtx

I'm going to assume their ~21711 for 3090ti is on older drivers / outdated as I get ~23.5k stock.

How in hell can Nvidia charge $1,199 and come away from it? I think nvida did same misstake on the pricing for the 4080 as they tryed launch a scam 12GB 4080 card. They did a double misstake at release. Or was it just greed or stupidity?

Looks like 4090 cables are being replaced. But not from Nvidia. Who's nex AIC partner that will follow EVGA?

Lmao Nvidia is ripping and playing the customer base HARDCORE.

What an anemic display of BS cost cutting on a $1200 card ? Pathetic. RTX 3090 which is now under $1000 has more VRMs over this pile of trash oh it matches because 16GB lool vs 24GB and AMD also has 20GB base now. It would be interesting to see how many 12VHPWR failures will occur on this given it's a 320W card.

The performance on the benchmarks side is improved vs 3090Ti but the Real world GFX performance I do not expect anything that would warrant a purchase since their official slide deck and the approximations, also maybe it's time for Nvidia to "Optimize" Their Ampere drivers to start nerfing the performance since the Ada Lovelace is out ??

The silver lining for Nvidia is they have a sale window of  20 days before Radeon 7900 RDNA3 series launches. Dec 13th, well more time for fireworks during Holiday season I guess haha 🥳

Nvidia is going to prepare RTX 4080Ti with 20GB memory now and beat the 7900XT else they are going to get REKT hard but what would the price ? Nvidia cornered themselves into from the looks of the RDNA3 initial numbers from Performance to Pricing.

Yikes. I am so far so good, and I always shut down my rig when not in use. I still believe these people are not plugging the cable in all the way, it is very easy to do. When I plugged in my CableMod cable I realized/saw just how easy it is to think you have fully seated the cable when in fact the cable is not seated at all and easily pulls right out. This has been shown by trusted tech outlets are a possible and likely cause. It shoudln't be this easy to mistake and should be addressed in some way or public statement.

Really happy I have the Microcenter replacement warranty right now. No need to wait for RMA or anything like that. Walk in with issue, walk out with new card or $$$$. Maybe mine will fail when the 4090 Ti drops for similar price haha.

Damn do most cards stop at +1000? My Strix runs out of room at +1900 with +1850 being the limit. But honestly the chip and memory chips are all a lottery, no brand is better than the other this gen. Card to card variance is real and you're paying for looks, cooling, and warranty reliability.

This card stops at 1150 on a good day and will crash at 1200 and will just lock up anything above that. And that's sitting at desktop and not even at a gaming menu screen.

That’s awesome they changed it. Hey, is the Kryos block a direct die application?

I just bought the delid kit, and copper IHS for 13th Gen Intel from Rockitcool.

I couldn’t resist!!!! 😭😭😭

Yes it's good that they made an aftermarket clone (dimensionally) of the stock IHS so that other parts are compatible. I do not expect it will perform any better, but it will give us something good to use with liquid metal instead of ruining the markings on the stock IHS.

Please be careful. Watch closely to make sure the IHS is not rotating during the delid. I'd hate to see you knock all of the SMDs off of the CPU in the process. If I hadn't stopped to check mine in the middle of the delid process it would have happened to me. I don't know why it rotates like that. I've never experienced that in the past during a delid.

@Mr. Fox

On 11/7/2022 at 1:56 PM, Mr. Fox said:

21856.jpg21847_4_1.jpg21847_5_1.jpg

huh, was about to suggest that it was likely with the redesigned rockitcool copper IHS, but brother Fox was quicker. weird they did that though, since it now doesnt have any mass advantage vs the stock IHS. but yeah, its a good replacement for using LM on top in order to avoid making the markings unreadable.

I'm going to assume their ~21711 for 3090ti is on older drivers / outdated as I get ~23.5k stock.

what an irony, spending tons of money on such a monster gpu only to see it laying unused in a box somewhere to keep it safe 😅 J2C actually mentioned the same for his colleague who also has a 4090 sitting unopened in its box, too afraid to actually use it.

whoa that pretty bad....i think the worst ive seen so far was like +1000. if the replacement does worse on mem but better in benches, is it just more efficient on its clocks? or how would u explain that? from what ive seen the bulk of perf increases in oc comes from vRAM rather than core, at least on ambient cooling.

and good info on Precision not being able to control the fans for you, same for me but wasnt sure if this was specific to vendor or vbios. would be cool if they kept developing the tool even though theyre out of the gpu market.

Yours is a bit better than average at 1550. Mine is 1200, but safer at 1150.

Now as far as gaming is concerned....it would not matter 100% at all except for a bragging factor.

Yep, bad indeed, but at least I'm not locked in like when one buys from different venders. So that's why I'm not mad, but If I had to keep it. I would be livid right now.😂

The core is pretty good though. Still running stock MSI vBios at 530W and it seems to hold well enough. Sustained clocks at 3105 up to 3150 so no issue there. (It did post 3180 the Jufes way. LOL)

Yes, that or Afterburner learns how to invoke P1 like PX1 does.

Edit:

If you hit default under PX1, then it will shut the fans down, but it wont start them back up.
