Question for the guys that do a lot of SM soldering. What microscope do you guys recommend? I am looking at two (appear to be made at the same factory), Vision Scientific VS-5FZ-IFR07 Simul-Focal Trinocular Zoom and the AmScope - SM-4NTP 7X-45X Simul-Focal.

If you guys have other suggestions, please let me know. I am not a beginner in soldering. I have lots of experience but I usually just use my eyes or a magnifying glass.

I use a jeweler's headpiece with interchangeable lenses for soldering really small microelectronics so I can move and clamp down items as I see fit and put my big noggin into position as needed for optimal viewing.

Always nice sit with the best binned chips themself. And you don't even need to pay more for them. And on top... You can sell sell of the seconda binned chips you don't need yourself at higher price to your own (AIC) partners. This is a double win. Nvidia vs AIC partners = 2-0 CIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gifCIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gifCIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gifCIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gifCIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gif

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 OC Shootout: ASUS, COLORFUL, FE, MSI, GAINWARD www.tweaktown.com

Best Overclocker:
You'd probably think it was the ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090 OC Edition that is the best overclocker, but you'd be wrong... the ROG Strix RTX 4090 was topping out at just 2940MHz but your results may vary. The best overclocker that I've got here with my pile of custom GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards is NVIDIA's own GeForce RTX 4090 Founders Edition which hit 3080MHz (but crashed) but was perfectly stable at 3060MHz.

And Nvidia don't even need the best cooling when they have the best chips. Less cost for the cooling. This is the tripple win. Nvidia vs AIC partners = 3-0 CIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gifCIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gifCIGAR.gif.fc1e9d1fd3b9cbb19e4d7588dc1e987e.gif

Pay more, but get less. Maybe fancy colors/theme is what you really want... Then you have to go with a custom card (Nvidia don't offer this, hence cheaper cards). Of course nice colours/themes/custom cooling come at Premium $$$$$. Binning isn't the only way to milk your wallet. And the AIC partners know all this.

Really? What did they say about it?

My boom arm still moves like it's on greased wheels. I was using it a few weeks ago to look over my MSI motherboard before shipping it off for RMA.

No problem Rage Set.

I'd buy a Papusan John ksss or Mr fox 4090. This might be a small forum but you guys are giants in the room. Some of the best overclockers that need sponsorship... what do you think.. are you guys down to get sponsored or is that off in the distance

That would be quite a blessing and definitely an unprecedent demonstration of generosity.

After seeing the suggestion for the $700+ AmScope I was almost too embarrassed to say what I use. If I did it for a living, I could probably justify the better product. Maybe a couple of times a year tops is about how often I use it. I don't do enough SMD soldering to justify spending any more that this.

As long as it gets the job done and works for you, that is all that matters. I am going to be doing a lot of board repair, some of it for the schools I am working for and others for clients. I have my soldering irons and hot air station, but I want a microscope that will last me several years.

Those youtube videos you posted, pushed me to get my s%%t together, lol. I got into soldering/reballing in high school, follow by working for a small PC repair business where I did a lot of that then...then going on my own after that. I remember when $250 could get you something like the $700 AmScope...

I lapped the IHS on my 13900K. And saw roughly 3-5C reduction on the cores.

Most likely I am going to run the “Super cool” direct die setup like all these other guys are running though.

Anyone have a Supercool direct die they’d be willing to sell?

I have heard that 12th gen and 13th gen are the same.

I had one and sold it because I was unhappy with how poorly it cooled my 12900K. I sold it on overclock.net shortly after I got it. Maybe it has been redesigned, but the one I received (which was one of the first) was no better than running with the IHS. I was really disappointed because the one I had for 10900K did a wonderful job.

Well, I installed the Supercool direct die block and my temps are a little bit higher than they were with the copper IHS. The installation was pretty straightforward. The CPU was already delidded, so there wasn't much effort involved. To rule out the possibility of user error on my part, I am going to remove it and check to confirm the liquid metal application was adequate and test once more before I decide if I should go back to using an IHS. This would be the first time ever in my experience that direct die cooling did not result in an impressive improvement. I am impressed with the Supercool 10th Gen direct die block, so I am hoping this is a result of user error and not a flaw in 12th Gen product design.

Edit: I had previously done the ILM washer mod so I will also remove them to rule out the possibility that is a factor.

As soon as I can find a reliable way to go bare die on 12th Gen I will do so without hesitation. It was a bummer that the Supercool Computer 12th Gen bare die block performed poorly. I think it was rushed using past logic and could have been excellent had enough effort been given to the jet plate design. There were not enough fins in the stack. They were too thick and had too much space between them. I really dislike having an IHS. It is an impediment that serves no useful purpose that I can identify.

Apparently, the different variants of the AmScope SM-4NT with the double-arm boom stand, "can" suffer from pitting of the arm due to the ball bearings used. I see that AmScope has a five year warranty and that may be enough to sway me to buy them.

The last thing I am researching is whether the Simul-Focal feature is something I really need or not. It not like I am going to need the ability to look through both eyepieces while recording through the  trinocular port all the time, like Louis Rossmann.

For what it's worth, it looks like it has, in fact, been redesigned. It sucks that the one they sold me was lousy. The cold plate looks totally different now. http://www.supercoolcomputer.com/en/product/44/direct-die-intel-gen13

Here is the current design:

Here is what they sold me that sucked:
image.png.c6fca7d66d1fa8e8cd7875c0c19feeb9.png

Hopefully the new design does a better job of cooling. My temps were basically the same as using the copper IHS with the old design. There was no measurable improvement and it wasn't worth the added inconvenience created by the design. If you have to take it apart for any reason it is more than a little bit inconvenient. Here is how I did it without making a mess. (The inconvenience would have been an acceptable flaw had it worked as well as expected.)

Why in hell make a water block for a cheap 75W GPU? Profits beat common sense. And I'm sure there is buyers there out for this. And many of them have more money than brain. This is brain death. Add shipping cost and +25% tax on top ofthis for Norway and the block will cost +252$. Fantastic.

The A380 waterblock is now offered at $190, which unfortunately $60 more than the A380 SKU itself.

The A380 waterblock alone is ‘an interesting’ idea. This is a 75W TDP graphics card that hardly requires more than two fans, yet now we are getting a liquid cooling alternative. However, there is a growing community of content creators and gamers who are using A380 GPUs for their video encoding work, where the A380 serves as a co-processor. Those systems may already be liquid cooled, so it would probably make sense to put all discrete GPUs under water.

Those systems may already be liquid cooled, so it would probably make sense to put all discrete GPUs under water.
https://videocardz.com/newz/bykski-releases-waterblocks-for-intel-arc-a770-and-a380-gpus

I have seen people criticize and even go as far as calling it stupid for 3060/3060 Ti to be cooled by waterblocks as well, but I can tell you it makes a massive improvement in both temperatures and performance. I played 6 hours of God of War on my work computer this weekend and my GPU never went higher than an average of around 65°C and it stayed nailed to the max boost clock, voltage and power limit the entire time I was playing it. I don't believe a 75W GPU would get hot enough to need it with a proper air cooling solution, but it certainly wouldn't hurt anything to have it.

That said, I could see some people putting a 75W GPU in a hot-box SFF case with poor ventilation and nothing would help that poor little critter stay cool enough to avoid pain and suffering. But, it probably wouldn't be liquid cooled in that scenario, so it's not relevant to that conversation, LOL.

Edit: Anyone heard of CapFrameX? I had never heard of it before, but it is a fantastic benchmarking tool. I enjoyed fiddling with it, which is what got me started play God of War, LOL.

With maxed out graphics and Ultra applied to everything, 3060 Ti stays above 100 FPS.

If they really need a waterblock to cool a 75W Gpu in a SFF case they should perhaps swap out the awful chassis to something better (in SFF form and shape) insted for paying +250$ for the waterblock😁

Won't be the huge loss if the card isn't what you hoped for. You won't lose much $$$ if you sell it if you aren't happy with it. A lot worse with more expensive things. More expensive = Higher loss. Sell a new car you aren't happy with would be a lot worse brother, Jaybee.

ha lucky me id never get the idea to buy a new car. turn the ignition keys, driver off the lot and it just lost like 30% of its worth in a blink of an eye 😄 only used cars for me, thank you sir! 😉

Yeah, not me. I'm done wasting time and money on something I no longer have to keep.🙂

I looked, but I could not find any of your benchmarks with your card. Can you send me a few links? Thanks.

Also, what do you get with enabling ECC and benching port royal?

well in that case naturally. so uve returned all your 4090s? even the almighty "trashboat"?

dont have any benches uploaded thats why you wont find anything 😄

also havent enabled ECC, just leave it off, no real use for it haha

I've decided to send the G.SKILL A-die back for a refund. The more I have played with it, I am discovering it is inferior to the generic green M-die sticks I already own. It's less stable, more prone to errors and runs hotter. Plus, the RGB rainbow puke keeps returning and my white color choice doesn't get saved. If I set the sticks to white and shut down the rainbox puke returns unless I boot into the same OS and allow RGB control software to override the default puke. If I boot into any other OS, the rainbow puke is what I get to look at.

I've tested it on the Strix and the Dark motherboards and it's buggy on both platforms. On the Dark with the latest 2.05 BIOS I can run the G.SKILL XMP 7200 profile on my M-die without complications. The read/write/copy and latency are all better using the M-die at the same clock speed. Without lowering clock speed, I can run tighter timings that are stable on the M-die, but they're not even bootable with the A-die.

The G.SKILL A-die appears to be a low quality silicon variant like the Corsair Vengeance A-die that I returned. The JEDEC default speed is 4800 on both of them, rather than 5600, and they both seem like compromised garbage products.

I have ordered a pair of generic green Hynix A-die with a default 5600 clock from China on Aliexpress for $100 less than the defective RGB puke options. This appears to be exactly the same product Splave sells on HWBOT.

Hi. Have the card boxed down for shipping. And reflashed org vbios back. But here’s an score from before. See link. The ECC junk destroy the fun. Not sure if I want a new. And the 3090 is still damn expensive and probably more fun (works on Win 7). And I use this OS a lot. Maybe I’ll sit on the fence now see how the prices will be for newer cards. But one thing for sure. It won’t be AMD.

aside from that, what was the nail in coffin for that decision? the obligatory ECC enabled for benches plus high cost?

After all of these years, you'd think that Jay would know a little more about overclocking reference cards. It is obvious that reference cards are extremely powerlimited and while the results are novel (instead of crashing, the card steals power from the VRAM when overclocking the core), he didn't have the same issues with the PowerColor Red Devil AIB card. However, if you read the title of the video, you'd think it affects all AMD XTX cards.

There are some issues with the XTX that AMD NEEDS to correct via drivers and I am going to remain on the sideline until they solved, but I can't help but think that all of this crap is because people wanted the 7900 XTX to beat the 4090 at $600 less. Pay premium for average quality is a problem. And I had to buy more parts for my pc and re-do a lot on the custom loop (+ I swap out and in a lot cards). So the already expensive card will even be more expensive without providing much more. And yep, my wife is wonderful. She didn't mind that I swap out. And even more expensive doesn't matter if I become a happy man 🙂

There is no reasons for Intel try compete in high end now. And there is no reason for people pay premium for Intel graphics.

I was also not aware of that being common AMD RDNA GPU behavior. But, neither I, nor Jay, have been interested in AMD GPUs or overclocking them. Kind of hard to be aware of something like that if you don't ever use it. Knowing that it is typical, I am less likely than before to buy one. At least not a reference card. From the sounds of it, seems that performance still doesn't scale well with overclocking the "enthusiast" Radeon cards even when the clocks do not drop.

I have to keep forcing myself not to buy one and remind myself that I don't need it and that the performance is essentially the same as my 3060 Ti that is less than 90 days old. I really want one. I came really close to buying the Acer Predator version with an extra 200 MHz core boost clock and higher TDP this weekend. If they release a higher performance model than A770 I probably will not resist the temptation. I want them to be successful and I already have a fairly decent degree of confidence that they will be. Intel generally plays with the intent of winning, and they generally do not like it when they are not in first place. I hope that "character flaw" becomes evident and they stay in the game with the intent of dethroning the Green Goblin on both the performance crown and value crown.

oh dont get me wrong, im not talking about them providing high-end. lets start with following through for one! theyll need to prove first that theyre in it to stay and be able to provide continuous driver updates, performance and stability improvements and widen their tech base. otherwise ure buying a product thats dead in the water just a year or so later. at that points doesnt matter if its cheap or not, its wasted money.

yep you and me and basically the whole enthusiast community is hoping for intel to get (even a tiny) foothold in the gpu space. more competition is good, nothing new there. but as we all know, companies are not your friends, so everyone's gotta prove themselves first.

that's the overall problem with Ngreedia: they SUCK SO BAD but their products are just spot on, year after year, gen after gen, they prove they can make the best performing GPUs. this combo just sucks big time cuz ud LOVE to buy ANYthing else but you just cant. thats why im also hoping for AMD to get their shit together for RDNA3 and push those cards to their initially intended targets.
