For a while I've had the idea of setting up an Unreal Tournament server for some friends and I, but they don't seem all too interested because the game is, "too old." I'd be really interested in the forum hosting servers for some classic titles (possibly including the OG UT... 😉); I think it'd be great for this community.

I'd frag everyone....I was the king of the "instagib" 🤣. Ahh, the memories of lugging my 70lb 19" crt monitor, and full tower down the street to a friend's house, or across town to the civic center for a "lan party". Ipconfig release.....ipconfig renew! 🤣

@Talon has tried a few and @tps3443 basically has a upper mid tier 13900ks with his binned 13900k.

13900KS definitely bin better overall and some of the samples showing up are pretty monstrous. Even mid tier 13900ks chips are upper 13900k chips.

Basically a rerun of the scenario between 12900K and 12900KS. Anyone planning to buy a 13th Gen i9 CPU that is not a KS would probably do well to limit their selection to 13900KF to avoid bottom-of-the-barrel silicon. The best 13900K samples will likely be branded as a 13900KS.

Nice, I see you are using an old Acer Aspire. Did you buy it recently or have you had it?

I've been wanting to OC some old Intel mobile CPU's to score some more points for the team on the Bot, but I can't find any obscure desktop form factor boards that seem reliable. I still have my weird HM55 board, but it's trash and can't do much. I might get an old M17X or something and rig a custom cooling system for it to clock some chips pretty damn high; the only problem is finding a reasonably priced M17X lol.

woah @Papusanthats insane almost 1200? holy smokes man. im not worthy im not worthy. imagine if cpus could break 1200 in r23

I had exactly 1200 in CBR23 but the Benchmate software screwed up (the normal on older HW) so I couldn't post it on the bot.

We can continue talk about screw up. Corsair wanted to cater the new and modern thin and slimy but forgot that PSUs engineerd for 2023 should really have an 12VHPWR connector as an option. What is unique with cut on costs?

The most unique aspect of this PSU lineup is that instead of having the connectors on the front, they are moved to the side. It begs to question if Corsair is on to something with its new designs & if this is the beginning of a "shift" in designing power supplies by other companies. Corsair hasn't used the Gen5 '12VHPWR' connector on the SHIFT PSUs and that may have to do with the overall clearance provided at the side of the PSU. As we know, the 12VHPWR connector needs around 35 mm of clearance before it can be bent, and most mATX or even ATX cases don't have that sort of room on the sides. As such, Corsair may have selected to go with standard 8-pin connectors that can be fed to a 12VHPWR adapter.

I had this laptop a couple of months many years ago. Then sold it. Now the man is dead, so back it went. Not the nicest way to get it back. I will install a newer Win 10 version on it then give it to my mother-in-law. She have an very old laptop with an Intel Celeron 1007U and an small wimpy 15 inch display. That Celeron chips is covered with loads of Norwegian flags on the Hwbot leadeboard🙂

image.thumb.png.67468ff9041314b771fcd1cb05982215.png

This one will better for her due the bigger screen size. And I have doubled the ram to 8GB. The laptop have never been updated since I helped install 1809 in early 2019. No patch for the OS or Windows Defender. Nothing, and still clean 4 years later🙂 Imagine this... +4 years old OS without getting any OS patches from Redmond, No patches for the Cpu or Gpu from Intel or Nvidia to fix well known vulnerabilities. And no working antivirus software. This old machine have run smoth without a hitch. This is not for everyone, LOOL

I do not need to even try to imagine this. It is my normal modus operandi. OS updates are especially unimportant and easily the fastest and most effective way of increasing the possibility that your system is going to be effed up in one or more ways.

The possibilities are limited only by their incompetence and lack of concern for the importance of producing a good product. This is 2023, so they rely on end user stupidity and the deception of frequent buggy patches and change only for the sake of change to be mistaken as something useful and beneficial. The exact opposite is true.

What makes it so sad/stupid/messed up is they think they are "optimizing" their system, but what they are really doing is choking it and making it slower.

People have problem with the reading skills. At least they are honest about own problems🙂 None read OP and none take their time to read last posts (from the other screwed one) in such type threads.

So, looks like 24/7 @ 90C+ was too much for Phobya after several weeks. P-Core 7 started spiking to 100C. I'm worried there is a problem with the contact frame adjustment, since there was no issue before with the Intel bracket over several months. Will try to readjust the frame and use MX-6 for a change. Failing that, it will be time to try LM I guess. Closer ot summertime it might need to bite the bullet and upgrade to water cooling. Any other suggestions appreciated as always.

Well, we'll see how it goes with the MX-6. There is also the Corsair XTM70 as fallback, or could order the Honeywell from China. I also have the grey 14W/mK CryoFuze, just really wasn't impressed how it performed on a GPU. Literally no difference over stock, so on one hand I feel like I don't want to waste time with that, on the other hand it might actually be very durable - won't know until I try.

Basically, the question is: what is the most robust of top-tier pastes, such that it might stand a chance surviving a merely AIO-cooled "HEDT-lite" onslaught?

cpu was at 30x because I wanted even lower temps im planning on gaming for as much as 2 hours at a time

CPU

Screenshot-40.png

Im running stock and need lower temps, my cpu maxed at 84c which Im comfortable with and the gpu maxed out around 80c

Im using quality SSAO and AF 16X with high quality texture filtering so Im getting the best image with the most acceptable temps, this is a real world scenario. overclocking is great but its not realistic when your hitting 100c. can cause damage as ive found with all the laptops iv'e overclocked

Wait, are there actually software utilities for overclocking within Linux now?

Haven't used anything on the CPU side, but clearly yes, as per bro Fox's screenshot. What's interesting though is that Linux NVIDIA driver has direct support for GPU and memory OC as well as (basic) fan control in the CP - something Windows has never had.

Limited to a great degree, but 99.9% of all overclocking is something I do in the BIOS anyway. I almost never change anything working within the OS like what was often necessary with a laptop due to lack of BIOS controls. The problem I have had on the Strix mobo was not with overclocking. It was Linux not being able to identify or report accurately on the CPU clock speeds. It was/is working perfectly on my EVGA Z690 Dark and not working at all on the ASUS Z690 because their implementation of ACPI is all buggered up and not talking to the Linux kernel. I am happy to have found a workaround for the incompetence of ASUS.

Given your occupation, what you would likely find even more amazing is the fact that, with very rare exception, almost every game title on Steam that is "Windows Only" runs flawlessly on Linux using Proton Experimental. In many cases the DX11/12 titles run better on Linux using Vulkan, even when it is "not supposed to work" it almost always does.

Green With Envy is better than MSI Afterburner. I do not know if there is an AMD solution for GPU overclocking, but it is very good for NVIDIA.

GWE is quite nice indeed. It doesn't have the voltage curve, but that's pretty much a gimmick. All you care about is max clock at the supported voltage. Too bad it doesn't handle multiple GPUs. I just use the CP to OC and "NVIDIA System Monitor" for monitoring, which also shows per-process GPU utilisation. Yes, overall the monitoring GUI tools are not quite at the level of what's available in Windows, but they get the job done for me.

I've been screwing around with using DXVK on games I'm CPU bottlenecked on in Windows. On games where it works, which has been most of them so far, the performance gain is pretty significant. I bet performance natively on Linux would probably be at least slightly better.

LOOL and it continue. Either people download the latest and greatest Intel Chipset drivers on Asus own official driver support page or in the driver thread in Asus forum..... They all continue install bugged drivers with a nice surprise as boot errors. And the more warnings you put out in the forum thread, the more they want to download and install, HaHa facepalm.gif.6522833ecea86071b82abead33d305a0.giffacepalm.gif.6522833ecea86071b82abead33d305a0.giffacepalm.gif.6522833ecea86071b82abead33d305a0.gif

Edit. Still not a single world record worth with 13900KS. I expect the elite benchers got the golden samples of 13900K silicon from Intel and partners before the 13th gen was released.... https://hwbot.org/hardware/processor/core_i9_13900ks/
