Speaking of ridiculous GPU prices..

I found my first GPU in Tarkov PC game! And yeah even in this game they sell for ₽124,000 Rubles which is equivalent to $919 USD, and it’s like an old Asus GTX 1070 😂. They are quite a valuable item though! I’m selling mine 100% lol. Gonna spend the money on ammunition and guns etc lol. 

Escape from Tarkov is amazing though. You can buy guns in pieces for less money, and put it back together and use it. Very cool. I went in to a raid once with no barrel. Oops. I was completely useless.

Yes it’s fantastic!! And yes that is foreal. Most realistic shooting game I have ever played. If you die in a real raid, you lose your stuff unless you insured it, or if someone takes it and extracts, it’s gone. All weapons are real, all firearm parts and accessories are real life items that have been scanned. Not no name stuff. Some items of course are made up names but not the guns and gear. I said it before. China and Asia have 5000  series cards. Just jump into a shop andgrab what you prefer... And cheaper as well. Of course they have them.... Asia is 1/3 of nvidia's GPU market. And with no extra tariffs.

 

 

Edit. New batches with 5090's out here today. Gone in seconds.   All we have here home is a couple of web-shops and need competing with bots one time a week.

 

Rather say $3000+ for the 5090. 50% more expensive for 50% more FPS vram

Suprim is a gorgeous card with a nice, beefy heatsink. It ranks right up there with the Astral for me IMHO. If that one had popped available first, I would have grabbed it no questions asked. Congrats bro!

I have till ~May 1st to decide if I want to keep the Astral before I return it and I'm back on the fence. I could technically keep it till June 2nd but the bill is due well before then and I have no desire to carry a +~3600USD credit on it for any length of time. 🤣

 

I've been playing a crap ton of FO76, WoW, Deus Ex MD (now in its full 4k Ultra glory clocking in at a locked 140fps) and some CP2077. Benching is fun but not enough to hold onto it.

 

It is very VERY powerful but I just don't know if I'm getting the proper value out of it.

 

FO76 was effectively capped with a 4090 and X3D so is the 5090 and X3D. Both GPUs were being limited badly with the 5090 severely limited. Doing a lot of testing, the "sweet spot" for FO76 was a hair above a 4070 Super (probably 4070ti levels) where diminishing returns kick in hardcore.

 

WoW engine can't contain the 5090 anywhere I check even with zero player data. With player data, it can get painfully limited down into the low 60's fps range and utlization sub 25% depending on what going on.

 

CP2077 is not a good enough reason to hold onto it.

 

I plan on running the 9070xt in my rig for the next few days. I'll be swapping out the 5090 tonight to gather some comparison data for FO76, WoW and Deus Ex MD.

 

My main problem is I have a $999 5080 FE and it makes it hard to justify anything above that price:performance except a $2k 5090 and even then a $2k 5090 would be spending a lot of time twiddling its thumbs but not at a $3.5k price point.

 

Astral is a total enthusiast card who wants the best and would probably do a lot more with it than I will end up doing.

Since we game at ~QHD on laptops,  this is Jarrod reviewing the Aorus 275hx + 5090 175w power limit. This is in line with just about every review I've seen so far of the 5090 vs 4090 mobile.

 

I am waiting for the 9950HX3D review to see if we get some more separation because as it stands now, upgrading from the 4090 -> 5090 at QHD or less is a total waste. Even at 4k, it isn't much of anything worth the $$$.

Check the Battlestate games website. Go ahead and get it. We can go in some raids. This game is very tough. There’s no map, no hud, no pointer showing us where to extract lol. We can go on some raids, it’s a very rewarding game though. I don’t have any friends on there besides playing with my son. The more the merrier though!! Oh and this game is crazy CPU dependent. 285K should probably work extremely well. GPU doesn’t seem to matter all that much. I think a 3070 would do the trick.

I so badly want to support you AMD, but my god your 9070xt, just like the 7900xtx, sucks for WoW and FO76.....

 

EDIT: Looks like AMD still sucks for WoW, just not as badly as before but same performance issues especially with RT enabled. So it's back to Nvidia because AMD can't get right. Now it's just a matter of the 5090 or 5080......

 

This makes my 5080 FE look like an A tier card and obviously my 5090 a Super Duper S tier card.

 

It's better than the 7900xtx in FO76 (4k Ultra settings):

I went to my favorite check spot in WoW and proportionately speaking from testing the 7900xtx vs the 4090 a year and a half ago, it is right around the same spot except RT performance is better and doesn't take as much of a hit as the 7900xtx did. RT enabled is also much smoother but this could also be AMD finally sorting out their drivers.

 

4090 vs 7900xtx was a blood bath so this is in the same vein.

 

73fps on average in 4k Ultra 10 RT max:

9070xt for WoW is meant for 1440p or especially 1080p. I can't say I'm surprised with the 4k results. It really isn't designed for that in many games.

I'm collecting some Deux Ex MD benchmark runs and I'll run some other tests and play around with it for a few days but for my use case this is a hard return......just like the previous 3x 7900xtx's I tested (XFX, MSI, Powercolor) that were returned or sold.

 

It's last chance of hanging around is I will test it in the wife's system since she plays at 1440p with the 3080 Strix, but I remember the 7900xtx with RT on performing just about the same as a 3080 or even a hair less. With RT off, it was ~20% faster.

 

Gonna swap my 5080 FE to collect some FO76 data. I only have runs when it was on the 14900KS before switching over to the 9800X3D.

thx bud, so far im quite happy with the card and definitely keeping it. will be putting my 4090 Suprim up for sale on fleabay soon, curious to see what kinda price i could fetch for it. still covered by warranty until / including Sep this year.

 

with regards to "bringing it alive", i had previously mentioned that i was surprised to see Titanfall 2 making the 4090 basically scream 😄 highest power consumption ive ever seen and had to manually switch to a more aggressive fan curve to keep me 24/7 OC settings stable.

now i found out why: when maxing out the graphics settings, theres also an adaptive resolution settings that targets a specific framerate you input. if it exceeds it, the resolution is upped, if it falls below, resolution is lowered.

at maxed out settings, both the 4090 and 5090 are able to run the game at 100+ and sometimes 200+ fps, but the thing is: the max res. it goes to is 16k! 😄 so you basically have a combo of BOTH an insanely high rendering resolution plus high framerates!

so defiitely a good use case to check for OC instabilties, coil whine and max power consumption. id highly recommend getting the game for the sake of playing it. as well, its both quite beautiful and captivating in storytelling and creative gameplay mechanics 🙂 (btw titanfall 3 rumoured!)

 

ill check out the DX Mankind MD benchmark, sounds promising! does it come standalone or do i need to install the whole game for it?

 

and yeah, definitely check out PX1, ill try to use it as long as possible / as long as it provides functionality on new cards. luckily, blackwell is basically just an updated ada arch, so functionality is still intact! (development was progressed to include the 4090, after which is halted).

 

on this note @Mr. Fox since im sure u have a very comprehensive list of benchmark tools: can you recommend and standalone gpu benchmarks outside of the usual suspects? preferably with a basis in an actual game, that would be grand 🙂

@Mr. Fox RGB puke is awful. And the same can be said about the baby cores and no HT. Intel can't grasp see the reality. But lower sales and market shares means less spending on TSMC wafers. A big win for intel?

As previously discussed, Fallout76 loves X3D and the engine is old enough that the assets fit in the cache pretty easily and runs like greased lightning.

It's on Steam for $4.49USD since it is older lol. I run a completely open case and I have to have the room silent, but I can get my Astral and 5080 FE to wake up a smidge so if I look for it, I can hear a little coil whine on both but I find just about any game if you put your ear up against any GPU and look hard enough you can hear *something*

 

9070xt has some but so much quieter than any of the 7900xtx's I tested except maybe the MSI.

 

I'll have to investigate Titanfall  2. Did it wake up your 5090 a little? 🤣

I like a small splash of RGB on the motherboard and GPU. I am indifferent on memory. I really have started to not like RGB on fans at all but when I build out systems for others, they all want as much RGB as possible.

 

I'm like @Mr. Fox and go for industrial looks so a black/white theme broken up by cold colors (white, pale blue or a properly placed red) speak to me now.

 

MSI used to offer premium at a lower price but their recent price hikes on their GPUs and laptops have me striking a somber note as of late:

 

 

$3229 for the Suprim = $130 less than the Astral.

Lowest priced 5090 Ventus for $2949.99?

 

$4900 for the 285k 5090 Raider?

$5100 for the 9950HX3D 5090 Raider?

Last year some of the Raider 18 configurations only came with 32GB of RAM, 1TB Gen4 SSD and QHD+ displays which made them much cheaper. Now they are forcing 64GB of RAM, 2TB Gen5 SSD and UHD+ and add the tariffs on top its obvious why they are in Razer / Titan territory.

 

The X580 is surprisingly cheaper despite having support for 256GB RAM and 4x8TB SSD's. It does lack almost all tuning but at the same time its design and build quality are much nicer along with the ability to configure the RGB with its profile stored to onboard memory. The performance of the 275HX is very good in WoW - easily as good as the 7945HX3D if not better even with the very high 130ns measured memory latency. It can handle heavy fights like outdoor raids while staying around 60fps at QHD Ultra 10, even with just 200W combined load in entertainment mode.

Dang. Asus going cheapo. I wonder what 5060Ti Astral would cost if they made them in that Sku. Only $599.99. My best guess would be $660 as stated before.

with pure rasterization, without ray tracing or DLSS, we measured a 13% performance uplift over the RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB, which is quite small.

 

Thanks to its factory overclock, the ASUS TUF OC gains an extra 4% in real-life performance over the base RTX 5060 Ti, which is small, but every bit helps of course. Competing cards achieve similar performance levels, with all cards hitting +3% or +4.

 

While ASUS ignored multiple requests for pricing, now we know why, the card is listed for $600 on Newegg, which makes it $170 more expensive than the baseline MSRP, or +40%. In return, you do get a fantastic cooler with excellent fan settings that result in very little noise.

I learned with hard tubing when I was practice bending, I was always trying to heat a tube too quickly, I wanted to get from 0 to bend in 3.5 seconds lol. And this is where my bends would fail. I had to be patient with heating the tube. And I wouldn’t just heat it and allow the bend, I’d heat where it will bend and also heat around that area of the bend very slowly for best results, I think it takes some serious skill and technique that I don't have to heat quickly without deforming a tube so I found heating a large area at the bend and around the bend very slowly allows the most room without error or ugly bulges or veins popping up on the bend area. That way the 90 or 45 or 30 bend doesn’t deform the nice round shape of the tube, I’d also not force a bend, let the weight of the tube bend itself, I learned heating too quickly would put us in a very narrow area of potentially melting or bubbling the tube, or seeing those veins or bulges. I bought my tubing 2nd hand from a forum member. So, he sent me like 10 new 1,000mm tubes. So I was able to practice a good amount.

Right now SLI is not working because the motherboard doesn't have SLI certificate. I tried doing dsdt editing to inject some but didn't work yet. I do have one other method left to try which may work so hoping to get SLI up and running soon. 

 

The 20 series are last to support true SLI unlike 30 series so they should work in all games that support SLI

Not sure what I will say to this. If Benchmate ain't enough for hwbot... What shall I do? Go for 4th place? Or ask for free hardware and fab custom firmware?🧐  Maybe sign up as elite. But they prefer play alone in their own playard. So forget it.. They don't allow vanilla benchers. Better get a life @Rage Set

You gotta shunt mod them both!!! You will need (4) 8ohm resistors to do both cards. It’ll give you another 40% more power headroom. I was getting over 25% more out of 2080Ti “Non-A” variants compared to stock. Those Non-A models were limited to 300w, and you could not flash the bios. (Just like RTX Titan were limited to the Nvidia bios). Only shunt. 
 

Once you get them on water, those RTX Titans will lock in to 2,130Mhz+ on the core. Maybe even more depending on the bin. You might get like 2,200 which would be amazing. I’d OC the memory to death and roll on.

It's on Steam for $4.49USD since it is older lol. I run a completely open case and I have to have the room silent, but I can get my Astral and 5080 FE to wake up a smidge so if I look for it, I can hear a little coil whine on both but I find just about any game if you put your ear up against any GPU and look hard enough you can hear *something*

 

9070xt has some but so much quieter than any of the 7900xtx's I tested except maybe the MSI.

 

I'll have to investigate Titanfall  2. Did it wake up your 5090 a little? 🤣

 

 

 

I like a small splash of RGB on the motherboard and GPU. I am indifferent on memory. I really have started to not like RGB on fans at all but when I build out systems for others, they all want as much RGB as possible.

 

I'm like @Mr. Fox and go for industrial looks so a black/white theme broken up by cold colors (white, pale blue or a properly placed red) speak to me now.

 

MSI used to offer premium at a lower price but their recent price hikes on their GPUs and laptops have me striking a somber note as of late:

 

 

$3229 for the Suprim = $130 less than the Astral.

Lowest priced 5090 Ventus for $2949.99?

 

$4900 for the 285k 5090 Raider?

$5100 for the 9950HX3D 5090 Raider?

 

I guess at least the Liquid 5090 is "only" $50 more than the Suprim = $3280 = ~$450 less than the Liquid Astral.....huzzah?

 

As for Intel, I always prefer all big cores and if I can get it, a monolithic design on top of that.

 

 

Looks like the new driver that launched today has changed something with the clocks of the 5090. Mine downclocks to 22Mhz now, previously it only downclocked to 180mhz. My GPU typically idles at 34-35c range. And after closing a game, the card gets right back to that really low idle temp a little faster now. 

Bone stock Steel Nomad scores look typical as well for a completely stock 5090FE with default 575w PL and PCIe Gen 3.0

Acer is sending me a 275hx equipped 5070ti laptop to check out, so I'll be able to not only get some hands on with it but more importantly compare it to the NH55 w/ the 12900k and 3070ti to see how much it has improved over a few generations.

 

A proper 285k desktop with the 5090 is intriguing me more and more each day. I know @Talon basically has nothing but good things to say about it for gaming after being properly tuned. If it can achieve more stable frame rates and doesn't tank as hard that trumps those highs IMHO.

 

One thing I will give the 12th-14th gen for WoW is an overall smooth and consistent game play especially if the memory is tuned. 

 

Since it is only a 5070ti, I won't get the same punch at QHD as you with the 5090 unfortunately. 😞

 

The pros of the Clevos and Tongfangs of the world is the ho hum aesthetics and lack of flaire but better pricing packing state of the art hardware and I've always liked that.

 

If I DO give a 285k a whirl and want to go at it with a 5090 and keep the 9800X3D setup, I will need to sell off the NH55, at least one Vivobook Ultra 7 + 3050 OLED, Acer AMD + 4050 laptop and most likely the 5080 FE but I really want to keep it AND the 5090. 🙂

yep saw that drop during benching yesterday, changelog included a  frigging TON of bugfixes specifically for 50 series. will update asap 🙂

 

some more 5090 Suprim insights:

- highest core temp ive seen thus far was 68C in Alan Wake 2 pathtracing maxed out in 4K without DLSS/FG. card still super quite, insane

- vRAM OC at +3000 for 34Gbps confirmed stable via GPU Memtest for 1hour. max VRam temp. 64C during stress test.

- currently checking for core OC, happy to report that EVGA PX1 does not have any troubles applying +100 on the voltage slider. with AB lots of reports that the card would drop to base clocks and show funky behaviour. havent seen this with PX1, so all good.

- +300 core oc looks stable thus far, but not quite done with stability testing yet, about halfway through. initial quick n dirty core oc only locked up the card once i reached +500 😄 should be interesting haha

- need to do some more extensive voltage monitoring to determine typical range for my particular sample. initial impressions in alan wake 2 yesterday showed anywhere between 1.00 and 1.25V (voltage slide maxed, power pegged at 600W+). but ofc that depends on the application tested.
