i am actually considering to now test the individual sticks and just pair the two best performing ones, what do u guys think?

Only if you think one of them is bad, or if you are concerned about one of the motherboard DIMM slots having a problem. Otherwise, I am not sure what you would accomplish. If you are not planning to use it with one stick of RAM then probably no point in finding how far it can go with one stick installed.

this is with the silicon lottery in mind. check and see which sticks clock the highest and then pair up the two best ones to maximize OC ability. i figured since were talking 4 kits of the same SKU mixing and matching wouldnt be as bad as doing so between different kits.

As long as the seller is not keeping track of serial numbers in a kit you can do that. If they are they might refuse your return/refund if you keep the two best modules out of more than one memory kit. Physically there is nothing preventing that and it makes sense from a binning perspective.

Looks like I won't be able to bench anything for almost a month, June 17th is the soonest they can send someone to even start looking at it :(

Suppose the best I can do is look at my other cards and see if there are any worthwhile mods I can perform to them.

After taking #3 Steel Nomad was pretty motivated to start tuning for the next placement. 7900 XTX is a lot of fun to bench once temperature and power limits are removed.

Before I killed my electricity (lol) I was actually considering getting a block and a mora 360. It would be comical at best next to my itx system but looks to be fairly necessary for pushing to #1. I always wanted a mo-ra but was always moving about so just wasn't in the cards.

Also what thermal pads are you guys partial to? I'm still using cheap generic stuff from my crypto days but that was for maintenance not for performance.

So uhh I was able to snag a RTX 5080 FE and am debating whether I wanna keep it or not.

But I saw people talking about 400w and 450w vBIOS. Too bad all the links I've seen are dead.

What's the deal with 5080 vBIOS? Is there 400-450w vBIOS that can be flashed on the FE cards?

If I keep it I wanna do some benchmarking. 😁

I’d test that 5080FE and not worry too much about this at all, it may be really efficient with power, from what I read they are efficient. They have a 400w max power limit. My 5090FE is extremely efficient with its 600w cap, and it under-volts insanely well and sips power. I have no problems keeping up or beating other AIB 5090’s because they just aren’t as efficient, so even though my card is hotter it’s still able to get it done. This happens with 5080’s too. I have learned a lot about the RTX 5000 generation, and it’s really all over the place. So I’d still definitely test that 5080FE, it may very well surprise you. Also, the price is cheaper than all the others.

Yeah the 5080FE is a banger especially for $999.99 but it is limited to ~360w which is the official spec. It's still a killer card and third most powerful out there atm.

You will need a different vBIOS to open it up to to even 400w or especially 450w on the Astrals/Zotacs of the world. 😞

Congrats on the open box 9070 XT.

UPS has the Apex on the truck. Supposed to be delivered between now and 8PM today.

I will have to check out that Delta Mate block to see how she looks. Speaking of GPU blocks, I got the Alphacool CORE installed. It looks really good. Much more refined aesthetically than the Bykski block that has served me really well with the 4090 Suprim. It is much heavier than the Bykski block and brawnier in appearance.

@johnksss the WireView does NOT fit with the CORE block. Not even almost. It is about a half inch short of being able to reach the connector socket on the GPU. So, now I have two WireView to sell. I'm going to miss it, but not the end of the world. Another thing I noticed after the fact is the switch to change between vBIOS chips is also covered up. If I were testing different vBIOSes still this would be a problem. I am not so I don't care. At least for the moment.

Sorry for the low quality camera phone photos. My 5 year old phone camera does an amazing job of capturing dust and lint in photos, but not the finer details that one would want to capture. Too lazy to break out the DSLR for this, so these will have to do.

Looking back at this.... My block is not as long so Wireview fits just fine. So much so that I did not account for the big open space where the EVCSE cable is now showing. I may go back and solder in the L pins so I can use the removable cable.

The Super 24GB variant will have 400w as it's official TDP. The 5080 FE is 360w. (or right around there). OC'd a bit more, but nothing like you will get with the vBIOS from Zotac or Asus.

It isn't "practically" 400w.

This from someone who tested theirs extensively before getting excited about the vBIOS then pissed off. 🙂

With all the extra headroom on the 5080, an AIB model (unless you want to shunt) is the way to go and flash it with Zotac or Astral vBIOS and really let it somewhat cap out nicely.

5080FE OC'd to +400 / +3000 99% utilization in WoW (I'll dig around for my other SS in TS/SN but I never saw anything meaningfully over 360w)

So this was the culprit for Cablemod failure with the Cablemod 90° adapters. Bad construction. Aka bad quality. And me pointing out the problems and hence got banned from CM reddit. Oh'well. Honesty is not appreciated over there at CM reps/mods.

@Papusan Well, is it user error or not? I installed my water block and did not have fan on power plug. Ran like 2 benchmarks and my wireview started screaming at me. I check it and the alarm was set for 70C. I then point fan back at it and it drops back down to 30C to 42C. 😂

When I was running air I always had fan because of the Gigabyte vbios only using 2 fans at 1800RPM.

So yes, it does need it's own fan. 😂

Are you in a case with fans? Or using test bench? My 4090 ran warmer on my open test bench, than my 5090fe does inside a closed case.

12VHPWR or whatever popular thing they are calling today, or whatever they decide to rename it tomorrow, is truly a POS connector that never should have seen the light of day. It is a sketchty, ill-conceived, fragile, unreliable and dangerous piece of crap. Nothing they can do to it--ever--will make it a good and reliable power cable. The group at NVIDIA responsible for bringing this abortion to market need to be stripped naked and caned in public until dead, then resuscitated, their employment terminated, citizenship revoked and then deported to a far away horrible place where life is miserable.
