I have a bunch of alts with each profession + engineering (for wormhole toys / etc).

I did not really want another 16 incher either, despite Eluktronics offering the Hydroc G2 with 9955HX3D + 5090. This Raider was a higher price as it is being sold for $3299 only at Best Buy (not Newegg, MSI direct or other usual resellers).

So far it has been behaving better than the older model. The balanced profile has very good fan noise. It only does sustained 55W CPU + 115W GPU. For higher performance I have a custom profile with all points set to 55% because otherwise the fans just constantly ramp up and down.

The RGB controller at some point reverted to the rainbow puke effect on boot, so I ended up having to install Steelseries GG. For a while it was just static red on all zones without any control software which was really nice.

This time around I am running W11 Enterprise LTSC IoT which has been great. Sadly the OEM Hynix A-die memory is PMIC locked so no VDD/VDDQ beyond 1.1v.

The 5080M has been plenty for WoW at QHD. I would just need to sell the other 5090 laptops as the Raider A18 can replace the function of the Hydroc G2 and Legion 9i G10 both. It is only a loss of battery life which is not a major concern for me.

I like the QHD option. I saw a FullHD option too on the 18" model but it was only for the 285hx as far as I could see. 9955HX3D would absolutely rip at 1080p but that resolution might be a bit too low.

I'll have to put the Raider back on my list as it seems to check all the boxes. The one big hangup I had with it was potentially only having the 4k display option as I prefer QHD or FHD. Nice that MSI is selling directly through BB marketplace so you can get that 5% in rewards too.

Thanks for the nice write up bro Elektro🙂

Edit... plant based way of eating and limiting meat to 1-2 a week ###  No way I can handle this. 55 years of eating meat in most  meals and you see where I go. I try to eat healthier meat. With little or almost zero fat. I never eat/use special sauces, or unhealthy dressings. Mostly pure food of good meat. Sample for on the bread. + here.  And of course lots of chicken. + lots of healthy bread. Me eat plants... Hell freeze first.

If you play long enough with the fire......

I figured you weren't going to go cold turkey across the board @Papusan🤣

I think that might be my first 5090FE burning up with the original tentacle. He seems to have been doing his due diligence too from leaving it plugged in even during GPU swaps to always giving it a check to make sure it was seated.

Hmmm.....

No one is safe from this catastrophe of a connector.

If only he had invested in a Wireview Pro 2..... 🤣

Radeon cards are better for frame gen. Lossless Scaling likes them more due to Radeon's higher floating point compute power vs their GeForce equivalents at all performance tiers, which is very important for frame gen performance. This also explains why Radeon cards perform significantly better with Minecraft shaders vs their GeForce equivalents. Both tasks are dependent on floating point performance.

So the best setup for dual GPU in games is Radeon + Radeon if your games favor AMD GPUs, or Nvidia + Radeon if your games favor Nvidia GPUs. In either case, the optimal frame gen GPU is going to be a Radeon GPU.

Nice insight, thanks! (Looks over at shelf with extra Red Devil 9070xt sitting there bored)....

I just need to find games I would play that really benefit from FG

I'd say all games benefit from frame gen, but the base framerate needs to be high enough that the latency between you moving your mouse and the action being reflected on the screen is low enough for the game to still feel responsive enough. This varies from person to person, and I'm on the high end, so I still need a base framerate in the hundreds for the game to feel responsive.

The base framerate also needs to be high enough to minimize frame gen artifacts. Things start looking really wacky when you try interpolating to 300 fps while having a base framerate of only 15 fps.

I’m hopefully picking up an ASUS RTX 5080 Astral OC tomorrow for $1,300 cash. I’m going to try to negotiate a bit once I meet the guy. It’s about a 2 hr drive. But it’s an amazing deal. If the card is terrible for some odd reason, and not worthy over my Zotac Solid 5080, I can always sell the Astral 5080.

Those 5080 Astrals are very nice. But new MSRP cost is CRAZY TALK!!!

No idea why they started with UHD and later released this QHD option. So far as I can tell the mobile X3D pairs better with QHD than UHD just like on desktop. FHD would be nice but it seems to be paired only with low end laptops at this point.

Eventually they should put it on sale. The price for its specs are pretty high right now and honestly not worth it. A few weeks ago I saw the X3D + 5080 + UHD 120hz config priced at $2800 at B&H and there is no reason this should be more than that with its lower specs.

Simpler and smarter could be achieved without it needing to be smaller or perhaps smaller but larger and robust connectors as an offset.

Garbage. Also a creative scammy way to help their cartel brothers financially because the sheeple will also need a new PSU or a special new power cable for a new motherboard. The wickedness of the PC hardware bastards has no limits. Totally unnecessary changes that nobody asked for and nobody needs and no consumer benefits from that fabricates an unmerited necessity of an additional purchases.

Man the guy with the Astral was very iffy. It was a 2 hour drive just going there. We were good for $1,300. Then I was about to leave, and he messaged me and said another guy offered him $1,350. And if I wanted to one up the other guy, I could pay $1,400 lol. I didn’t say anything, then he said NM guy wasn’t serious if you want it for $1,300 C’mon and get it and I’ll stop taking messages. Then he messaged again! Okay, guy for $1,350 is serious now, if you want for $1,400 you can come get it though. I told him no, I need a 100% legit deal if I’m coming. Then he messaged again, said he felt bad and he would now take $1,300. And I just couldn’t drive this far with him potentially changing his mind again or trying to get more from me when I got there. 😂 He went back and forward on me three times!

But I will tell you all a crazy story!

I bought a junk car Wednesday, I towed it home, after getting home with it, my phone notified me that a tracking device was nearby. Presumably inside this 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that I just purchased which was sitting on my trailer 😁. So, this Jeep was full of trash. Who knows where it was, I didn’t really care. I was gonna haul it in for junk. I paid $180 dollars for it, and was offered $550 (Easy money) the next day sheriff shows up at my door. “Is this your Jeep” yep! I bought it! “You got a bill of sale?” Or “Title?” NOPE.. But I have a string of text messages showing who I bought it from though and where to go pick it up at. “SIR, this Jeep is reported stolen” “You are in possession of it” “Can I have some ID?” Handed over my ID. And then about 4 more Sheriff vehicles and two unmarked detective vehicles rolled up at my house.  OH CRAP.. They said well, the owner may decide to press charges, and you could be arrested for theft of a motor vehicle. I started getting very upset at this point. No freaking way right now. I had to explain the story a few times to two different detectives and show the texts and conversations again about how I obtained this 2004 Jeep. They wanted me to make a recorded and written statement. And describe the guy who sold it to me. After giving them everything they needed. I offered to bring the vehicle back to where I got it. Which I did lol. They said This guy has sold three cars out of the same location under false pretense to other  people just like me. The tracking device that was in the Jeep belonged to the Sheriff department lol. 😂 they also had cameras out there mounted to trees. This area was a flood area and has a lot of abandoned homes and RV’s, cars, trucks out there.

Anyways, I thought this was crazy! I have purchased and sold about (40) cars, trucks, vans so far just this year. And this was the first one ever reported as stolen in all my time of doing this off and on over the years! And fortunately the truth set me free on this 100%. I was only out the $180 and cost of gas. Which they said I may get back, since I was a victim in all of this I was able to identify the guy though a picture they detectives showed me. So they already knew exactly who he was, and who they were looking for.

Yeah when they keep changing the prices and going back and forth because in the end he wants to extract another $100 out of you, it's time to walk. I would never pay $1400 for a 5080 anything.....

Glad it (kinda) worked out but it would suck to be out ~$200 for it but wow.....

How does it work buying cars with no titles?? Any ways of immediately checking vins? Just insane....

Yeah the Astral 5080 is a joke money wise. These cards are $1,950 USD BEFORE TAX lol. 😂

Well in NC if it’s 10 years old or older, we don’t need a title to sell as junk or sell for

parts, I’d only want a title if I’m reselling the vehicle to a person as a running car, which rarely happens. Checking the vin is easy to do, but if it’s not marked stolen when you buy it, and then suddenly reported stolen right after you buy it, then no checking can help avoid that situation. Which is apparently what happen with the Jeep.

Probably the best for several reasons. Not sure I have seen so many org Asus tentacle meltdown Asus cards this time around. If the connector melt into the GPU, then it's nice if it's the org Asus adapter fused to the card😀 Still, I don't like the solution. I hate that stupid lille connector. Even Jonny Guru at Corsair say the connector won't stay properly connected with the card when you pass 6 months. It will loose the connection and here we go... BOOOM!

Corsair explains why 12V-2x6 still needs protection despite ...

Same statement here. Use the 12V-2*6 cable perfectly fine in 2 months, then BOOM

Well, I am glad that it turned out OK on the Jeep from a legal perspective.

The Astral is a joke by most measurements. They are just overpriced cards with a fancy cooler. They do not have binned core or memory and their stock firmware has nothing going for it. I'm glad you didn't waste money on an Astral. I am 99% certain you would have gained nothing for the extra cost.
