So now I keep a folder of all my backed up drivers to install when windows trips up and have to do a reinstall and yeah a ransom fee to stamp!

Have you tried Double Driver? If not, check it out. It's awesome. I have been using it for several years with only good experience from it. It does what you are doing manually with a couple of mouse clicks.

Once you have all of your drivers installed, use Double Driver to back them up with the installer option. The next time you do a clean install just run Double Driver on the backed up drivers and it installs everything for you from your backup. And, that's without the software and extra garbage payload that a normal driver installation often includes that you don't need. It's only the core driver files. When you make the backup, exclude GPU drivers.

The driver backup can be used on other computers with the same hardware as well.

You can also use the backed up drivers to slipstream them into a Windows ISO mod.

I would love to see how a crossflow (axial) fan works in a PC. I have a crossflow tower fan in my office and it is amazing. Moves TONS of air. This is what most central air conditioning and swamp coolers use for a fan. They turn slow, make little noise compared to a radial (conventional bladed) fan, and move tremendous volume of air. Too bad this is only a SFF. Would be nice to see something similar in a full tower kit with 360, 420mm radiators or even just sold as a standalone chassis fan.

and deeefinitely keeping tabs on this, next upgrade for Hyperion 😛 either that or an RTX 5090, whichever releases first 😄 although for the CPU i might wait a month or so for prices to go down considerably before upgrading. for the GPU doesnt matter, highend prices dont seem to fall anymore anyways after launch day, but the inventory DOES, so yeah...lulz

If this is something to expect.... <140 points on the single-threaded score is around a 12% gain over the Ryzen 9 7950X, while the multi-core score is right about 10% faster>. Then I can understand why Intel ditching HT for Arrow Lake Cpu's. This way they can lower the total power consumption without losing the multi thread performance crown over to AMD. Because there is no competition that offer the best you can get.

Sad AMD trashing the competition🙁 Exactly the same way they did with 7900XTX vs Nvidia's best Sku.  Hmmm. Have Mr. Azor changed HW department now? Went from the AMD graphics group and over to Ryzen processors for consumers. Hmmm. Sad reading.

Sorry, but this means AMD will Sucks once again. AMD = Another-Midrange-Disaster.

But its looks so good when i am gonna pair it with the 20 E case i still wait to be deliverd 🤣. I am also looking foward to be amazed from the BIOS on this chinese  MB, but i have to give them to them. They really can build cheap stuff from nothing :D.

Will do, when the system is up and ready, and the house still stands ill put some pics up. Maybe i can override this bios and put some OC on that chip. Its the J version and it should go to 4500 if the VRMs dont pop up 😄 . Need to buy some VRM heatsinks first 🤣

I have no idea where you think Intel has the multi threaded crown?? Intel doesn't even make a 16 core 32 thread desktop chip. Intel requires 8 more cores to barely surpass the Ryzen 16 core, and that is only in rendering.

There are several different results for the multi thread performance crown. Depends on the benchmarks and who did the tests. Just head over to Hwbot or techpowerup. You'll see more Intel than AMD on top of the global leaderboards on Hwbot. If I used an AMD processor for my benching I would struggle keep up on Hwbot leaderboard🙂

You're going to want to ask for V/F curves from any potential 14900k chip you get to evaluate the 4300 V/F point and hope/pray it isn't a hot and leaky chip since we're dealing with such constraints. The binned 12900k from @win32asmguy had a fantastic 4200/4300 V/F point but it was just a hot chip in general so even delidded it throttled. On the other hand, the 12900k I had binned from launch always pulled less and ran so stupidly cool on my desktop that when placed in the NH55 (and UV, removing retention bracket and a few other thangs) it was able to not throttle full tilt running CB23. I'm still tempted to pick up one of those aftermarket heatsinks since they seem much beefier.

As for the 8000 series chips, I'll probably wait for the X3D variant unless performance is SO stunning it can match the 7950X3D in gaming which I doubt. I don't think it's going to be a case like the 7700x (even the 7600x) beating the 5800X3D overall in gaming but you never know. 🙂

Interesting to hear that about the 12900k, especially given that it ran much cooler than the delidded 12900ks I also had. I kind of get the feeling that by the time the ks chips are announced they start keeping the good k chips for that bin. At least that chip had a better IMC and had no trouble running 3200 speeds with dual rank.

The variance in Intel silicon is insane at every step of their V/F curve but on a desktop you just don't feel it much (if at all) in the lower end of the V/F spectrum with desktop cooling solutions and a basic air cooler thrashing many (if not most) of the laptop cooling solutions. I think I said this before, but when I was first binning 12900k chips, the one in the NH55 now stood out drastically versus all the others I tested before and after for running so much cooler and requiring only ~163w dialed in to pass CB23 full tilt on an AIO no delid or anything. I was able to run it at LLC1 on an Asus board and it just sat at ~158w-163w in CB23 looping.

Fishing for a good 14900k is going to be even more problematic with the extra e-cores. I think @tps3443 sample is a good start since it has a majorly low 4300 V/F point vs most other chips (I think it was like 0.969 or similar). I've seen only a few 14900K chips with that same V/F point but none lower.

Your 12900k is still a great chip btw. I took that one and put it in my wife's desktop which was originally running my binned 12900k and it's running quite nice on an EVGA CLC 280mm AIO delidded with the copper top you so kindly sent me and was much appreciated.  👊

That is very true. Reviewers are usually fanboys and there is always a way to build a case for a particular brand by selectively choosing what your favorite brand is best at and omitting information where they are not. You can pick any brand you want and do that. Same applies to "news" to fit a narrative with bits and pieces of information that, while accurate, is incomplete, out of context, or distorted, and that paints a picture that is the exact opposite of truth. It's called "spin" and it is unfortunately the new normal.

HWBOT leaderboards are a good way of getting a big picture view. I think that is good advice. But, it's only especially useful for guys like us, that care about overclocking. Many of the fanboys think overclocking is dead and the only thing that matters is stock performance. Guys like us don't care about stock performance. It's irrelevant to us. We only care about how well it overclocks and what the overclocking does to the results.

It's OK for stock performance to be the only thing that matters if you don't care about overclocking. It is OK to have dips and stuttering, and suck at ray tracing when you don't care about those things. It's not accurate to declare a winner based on limited information that excludes the measurements that are unfavorable.

All that said, "birds of a feather flock together" is a natural thing. It is not a bad thing as long as the flocks do not turn on one another, become enemies and try to destroy all who are outside of their flock. We all have our personal preferences, but shouldn't take it personal if someone thinks our baby is ugly. And, the person that thinks that our baby is ugly probably shouldn't tell us what they think unless asked. It's OK to be honest, but weaponizing honesty is not OK. The only reason to do so is to be offensive. Smart people can find and look at numbers that matter to them, connect the dots they care about, and decide for themselves. Sheeple follow the flock they like most and gives them the most warm fuzzy feeling.

Hwbot probably has a 5 to 1 ratio of Intel to AMD, which also skews results, and there are probably many more top overclockers using Intel to AMD, so IMO, the bot is not an accurate measurement as well.

If AMD made a 24 core desktop cpu, it wouldn't even be close.

Yup. 50% more threads would make an huge difference in performance. But with todays Ryzen chips not much would have changed on the bot if more people posted results. The best results is already subbed on the leadeboard. Remember the elite/fab clockers use both AMD and Intel chips as they being released. And they get the best binned chips you can find. In other words... Handpicked chips directly from Intel and AMD.

Besides @Talon (who we know will be getting one ASAP! 🙂 ), who else is picking up a 14900KS next week?

I shall die on the sword for you lol. Being honest with myself I will pick one up, but do I think it's worth it for me? Absolutely 100% not. I don't overclock my 13th or 14th gen chips. They run so stupid fast out of box, I'm not CPU bottlenecked at 4K, and the gains are kinda meh. I just undervolt all of my chips and run the memory OC. I haven't bothered overclocking any of my 14900Ks which is kinda sad. Hopefully Arrow Lake will have some amazing OC again.

The things that suck about computers suck for us all equally. It doesn't matter what our personal preferences are. AMD, Intel, NVIDIA... ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, ASRock... all of them have their pros and cons and all suck as much as they excel. It all boils down to who one thinks sucks the least. They are all muppets that lick the boots and smooch the posterior of the Redmond Retards, which automatically disqualifies all of them from being viewed as good companies.  We have each other and our friendships are the most valuable element of being PC enthusiasts. The silicon lottery is brand agnostic and takes no prisoners. As long as the silicon giants continue to sell trash samples on the same shelf as the good ones, and AIB OEMs sell crappy products with inadequate QC and lousy warranty service and support, a large percentage of us will end up getting screwed with trashy tech that doesn't live up to what we were lead to expect by fanboy shills.

Microcenter had the 14900KS listed in stock earlier today. $750. Honestly as expected. They've since removed it, but I guess it's going to be available later next week.

I hope the majority of them are equal to or better than the one I bought from Germany. It's a very good CPU, but it's definitely not worth $750 without a guarantee or assurance of receiving a sample of quality equal to, or better than, the best of the best 14900Ks that have been sold so far. Getting one that is no better than a decent 14900K is unacceptable due to the price premium. They should all be golden samples from the top 10% or not be sold as a KS. If that is not what happens, then it is a ripoff/scam being charged cream of the crop prices for something that isn't. I'm skeptical now because the three that I RMA'd were absolute trash samples. Might have just been bad luck, but I have my doubts.

If you get one, I hope it is an awesome sample.

Since this is 1700's swan song, I might pick up a 14900KS, but I am unsure which eshop I am going to buy it from. Amazon is becoming much more selective on how fast they process electronic returns and Newegg is Newegg (truth be told, I don't believe I have ever returned a non-sealed product to Newegg). I could try B&H, but they are generally the last place to get anything in stock near launch, at least in my experience.

I want the option to return the 14900KS if it is complete trash, but I don't think I will even if it is. Maybe I'll pick up a 14900K instead.

Why not Micro Center since you have access to more than one location?

I just installed a modified, (trimmed) version of Windows 11 23H2, and so far is performing better than my ltsc 22H2. I honestly wanted to install 7 without the gpu drivers, but blue screened after the welcome logo. I then remembered what a pain in the behind it is to get it running, so I bagged that idea. I Really hate the Redmond nazis.
