r u sure is higher? bcs the 4980hq itself is 1.65mm + the PGA package, n a native pga CPU is 4.7mm, when its higher maybe using washers will help?

n when i find a 2x8GB kit of 2133 mem, i will give the 4980HQ a try, when it only last a year, its ok, so it will cost around 5 bucks/month, less then every streaming abo 😄

Hello. I'm going to buy a cheap M4800 with eDP motherboard + LP156WF6 eDP 1.3 display and use it with an RTX 4070 MXM from X-Vsion (good VBIOS, it has eDP enabled on D, needs backlight cable mod).

 

I do need to get a custom heatsink for the 120W of power. Two heatpipes could work for the M4800, since the OEM one has one fat heatpipe.

 

I already have a M6800 with custom heatsink for the RTX 4080 in eDP with backlight mod (needs EDID override for the OS because bad vbios) and 7720 with 4070 MXM.

Because you didn't have the backlight mod cable for eDP and @Nizmeïsterwas able to use his RTX 4060 MXM in the M4800 eDP but how did you cool it?

I am not sure if it is the case, because it doesn't show up in the system even when iGPU is enabled

I got the Ada cards to work in M6700 eDP UEFI and M6800 eDP. M4800 uses the same BIOS type as the M6800 (same NVRAM variables), so it should 100% work.

 

These cards don't work in LVDS unless you use Intel Optimus (iGPU + Nvidia).

These cards don't work in LVDS unless you use Intel Optimus (iGPU + Nvidia).

I use an EDP LA-9772p motherboard and tried both restoring the original BIOS (because mine is modded, I have unlocked the SPD write + ReBAR) and also tried CoreBoot, it just doesn't show up for some reason... Quadro T1000 works perfectly fine though.. I know about the backlight cable mod too, but shouldn't it at least show up with Optimus on? Correct me if I am wrong. If disabling Optimus + having a backlight mod lets these old M6x00 & M4x00 work with newer GPUs then I am shocked...

Doing so with 4060 results in a reboot after I apply the settings and in around 5 seconds laptop just shuts down, turns Optimus back on (by itself) and 4060 is not even visible in the system....

You maybe got a broken RTX 4060. Did you send it to repair? Yes your T1000 is from ADLINK, it needs the backlight mod cable to display in eDP.

Nope... my dumb ass thought that maybe there is something going on with the laptop itself... I bought it back in January 2025, I am not sure if they are even going to help me with this anymore. I wonder if this GPU can even be diagnosed to be honest..

Because @Nizmeïsterbought a backlight mod cable from me and the 4060 worked on his laptop. It even worked in Intel Optimus on his MSI GT60 but his laptop EC's fan didn't work... Well the EC on the M4800/M6800 work with the new RTX.

 

You have a DOA card. X-Vsion can repair your GPU, I had my 3080 fixed because of a short-circuit from a screw.

 

Also, Did you get a custom heatsink for the M4800 for the GPU?

Yep, from cicichen, didn't really gain much, so I'll probably try to tame the GPU then.. if XVSION can really fix it, then I am gonna speak with them ASAP

M4800 GPU heatsink only comes with one heatpipe by default unless modded somehow

Guys... it works... it freaking works... 4060 was fine all along, it was a fault with my old i7 4980HQ mutant CPU. 4060 WORKS FINE.

How about the temperatures at 110W?

 

There's no way a CPU is making a GPU to stop working. Maybe the Intel Optimus wasn't working that great with your CPU + Ada? 

 

Do you have pictures of your laptop? Like to see if there's any space to shove an extra heatpipe on the GPU heatsink? A gap? Could help for cicichen

I've just plugged it in for a test. So, the PCIe x16 goes straight from the CPU itself, and what happened is that my i7 4980HQ died one day... I ditched the whole mutant idea and went with i7 4930MX, one folk gifted me one and with this CPU 4060 started working.

 

When i7 4980HQ is installed - 4060 doesn't work, when i7 4930MX is installed - 4060 works. 

 

I will check everything out, as I have only tried this with laptop being half disassembled and booted into WinPE.

Okay, I'm waiting for the temps results with the version 1 of the custom heatsink made by Cicichen. Cicichen is working for the double heatpipes m4800 GPU heatsink. I bought an eDP 9772P laptop for 120€.

When you get the heatsink - please, make a few photos, I have some equipment and I'll try to replicate it, installed driver right now, time to test it

Didn't have any results yet, but from what I see - this GPU needs a VBIOS with less max TDP, this goes into a scary territory + some scary coil whine. This is under FurMark 2 VK stress test ≈ 1 minute.
