Didn't have any results yet, but from what I see - this GPU needs a VBIOS with less max TDP, this goes into a scary territory + some scary coil whine. This is under FurMark 2 VK stress test ≈ 1 minute.

Coil whine = high FPS. Happens on every cards I own.

What FPS did you get for average?

Isn't the maximum throttle 87C for the core? That's good! Hotspot throttle is 105C I believe. Maybe -10C with a two heatpipes design. Standard heatpipes, not the "big flat" one.

Here is the best picture of the internals I took a while back, maybe that will help, I tried to play around with some heatsink parts to kinda check the fitment, but couldn't figure out how to jam in another heatpipe on the GPU, tolerances are pretty tight... maybe cutting the palmrest plastic is the way? Don't wanna ruin the rigidity

Thank you. Is the Ethernet port in the same height as the GPU heatpipe?

Can you overclock to 4GHz all cores using NVRAM edits + sleep bug to unlock the TDP?

I'll check the height.

About an overclock - not sure, I am running (1 core - 4 core ratios) : 43, 42, 40, 39

That sounds like an overclock to me. Chip can handle 43, 41, 41, 40? Single-thread in CPU-Z, it's 420?

We can run a heatpipe on the ethernet without trimming it, okay.

There's no place on the copper grid to solder another copper tube - where are you planning to vent the heat, then?

You do need a better heatsink, cicichen made the two heatpipes version. He needs to add some "spiky surface area" on the full copper heatsink and it'll be good to go! Could handle 100W.

Wait ReBar and 4G decode exist for the M4800? Any BIOS online? The same for M6800? Since they use the same BIOS type.

As I said already - I'll try my best to replicate the design once I get some pictures and information, I've tried to drop in some heatpipes just to see the fitment, but space is kinda restricted there, balls to the wall situation.

I've used xCuri0's Dxe module and guide from here: https://github.com/xCuri0/ReBarUEFI
It is pretty hit or miss, I have done this mod at least five times until I got it somewhat right... just to see i7 4930MX walk in and reject everything, laptop didn't even try to boot.

Black screen (no backlight too) -> no indicators except for the power button -> pressing the power button results in a fan ramp up and then it shuts down.

This is a pretty standard behavior I noticed when BIOS breaks on this laptop.

Here's a preview. The surface just need some dissipations points, adapt the height of the right side inductors and that's it! Compatible heatsink for the 4060, 4070.

He just took the OEM heatsink and added a full copper plate, that's it.

The newer version, it's a new base, new heatpipes.

I just hope he can really add these spiky dissipations points for the surface because that could help a lot!

Hello MELOCODI,

How did you enable ReBar in the sBIOS? Do you have instructions for this, or would you perhaps be willing to create some? Maybe next time I should read to the end... Sorry, never mind 😄

I’ve been looking for a solution for quite some time now; the only thing I’ve found were the instructions for unlocking the hidden 4G decode option on GitHub. However, I haven’t found this option in the sBIOS (A26) of my M4800.

I need this for an Adlink RTX A1000 Embedded, which absolutely requires this option.

Thanks

So every Ampere cards that are Quadro and from Aetina, ADLINK, Getec don't work because of 4G decode? The only card that seems to work (M18X R2 and R3 SG) is the Quadro RTX A3000 from XVSION

Is your laptop eDP or LVDS version?

Also these cards lack the backlight pins so that's why the screen stays black for eDP.

I tried both versions with FHD displays. The result was the same: the boot process freezes right before the Dell logo appears, without any error messages displayed via the LEDs above the keyboard. However, the GPU gets warm and the fans start spinning. The Adlink user manual specifies that Above 4G is necessary.

I then tested the GPU with a Miner PCIe x1 adapter, and it works. But even on the desktop, it only works with the 4G option enabled. Otherwise, it isn’t recognized.

Unlucky.

ssj92 tried an A4500 from Aetina and it didn't work too, in his Alienware M18X R2. Same issue. I wish these manufacturers could make 3 vbios types like:

- default one

- no 4G decode + Max-Q

- no 4G decode

The RTX 4060/4070 (60W or 110W) are the best options for M4800 in eDP with the new dual heatpipes heatsink for the RTX + 240W PSU.

They have 4G decode but it's not a necessity for the mxm to work.

Maybe for you, the limit comes from the iGPU when it's in Optimus? Did you try in dGPU? In DP out?

Posted

Yeah, I tried that too. I systematically tested everything I could think of—UEFI, CSM, with and without Optimus, plus an external monitor, different VBIOSes—but nothing works. It’s always the same result or error 43 after installing the driver. I think there’s also some kind of hardware coding on the GPU that detects that it’s not the original VBIOS.

Quadro T1000 works perfectly fine though.. I know about the backlight cable mod too, but shouldn't it at least show up with Optimus on? Correct me if I am wrong. If disabling Optimus + having a backlight mod lets these old M6x00 & M4x00 work with newer GPUs then I am shocked...

With T1000 disabling optimus results in a black screen (ofc, because I didn't use the edp mod), but laptop actually works.
Doing so with 4060 results in a reboot after I apply the settings and in around 5 seconds laptop just shuts down, turns Optimus back on (by itself) and 4060 is not even visible in the system....

Did you also implement above 4g decoding or you only added rebar dxe?

My goal is to enable above 4g decode on every laptop I have...

You are literally going through what I did with A4500. At that time I tried everything possible and only solution is above 4g decoding. We need to find a way to implement it into the bios (it IS possible on ivy/haswell at least).

Does AETINA or Adlink sell GeForce RTX cards? If yes, did anyone try?

I know that the Turing Quadro ones are working on the Ivy and Haswell laptops.

That's also why the Nvidia GeForce Ampère and Ada cards are good. ZRT and XVSION they work without any issues in eDP. I bought another RTX 4070 because it has a good vbios and it's for the M4800.

No, they only sell official quadro cards.

There is no "official" geforce cards. All the geforce mxm cards after 2000 series are frankenmod cards with a leaked vbios that let's them work in mxm form factor.

Hi, everyone, I've tried to implement ReBar using the mod guide from GitHub (made by xCuri0), but it is extremely unstable and is very hit or miss, i7 4980HQ + Quadro T1000 combo made it look like something was going on inside, even had "Above 4G Decoding" and "Resizable Bar" showing up as active in GPU-Z, but the success was short lived (increased bar size to 1 GB from what I remember, after that point - laptop can't boot). I installed i7 4930MX + Quadro T1000 and the mod stopped working compltelely, even when rebar is disabled (github mod allows to set the bar using an .exe app) it doesn't boot, same with RTX 4060.

What I think is that the uefipatch step from RebarDxe page should be done differently, after a careful research using GHIDRA & IDA Pro to see EXACTLY what should be patched, because even though there are some provided Haswell 1150 patches on the page - barely any actually apply.
