Wonder if it will work on my zbook 15 g2-atleast in hybrid mode?(I think the eDP is on C in the 15 g2). As I've heard, only up to turing cards would work. Will there at least be a modified vbios for a DP_C output? Hi, yes the card will work in hybride mod, you'll loose a little bit of performance due to routing the display signal through the iGPU. I used a 1060M that had HDMi on DP_D (laptop booted with black screen in discrete GPU mode, booted fine in hybride mode and 1060M was recognized and used for games) Not sure the external display outputs will all work well, we'll have to look up the schematic of your model to make sure wich external display connections have a mux switch meaning the iGPU will run the external connections as well. Why do they do this? None of our heatsinks would be compatible, even by modifying the offset. It's so spacced out...
dickcheneyx Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 Has anyone done this for a X170, was debating grabbing a 4090 card but the heatsink comments have me out of depth on this.

Not yet. But yes the heatsink needs to be modified. RTX 4070, 4080, 4090 worked on the P775TM. For 4080/4090, ZRT/Enbik are prefered brands because of their VBIOS (DP/DP/HDMI/eDP, enabled eDP and not disabled eDP, otherwise blackscreen after drivers installation)

SuperMG Posted January 12 Author Posted January 12 Hello. I still have some backlight eDP mod cable available. Available on ebay. Support would be helpful. The mod won't work on Dell M6700 with Dreamcolor LVDS display. eDP to LVDS doesn't work because the GPU doesn't understand what screen type it is. I couldn't try on pure-eDP because I can't find the 3D cable
Nizmeïster Posted yesterday at 12:32 PM Posted yesterday at 12:32 PM Hello everyone, I came across this amazing discussion thread and it rekindled my interest in upgrading my old gaming laptops. I own an old-school MSI GT780 running an i7-2860QM and a GTX 980M 8GB, an MSI GT60 with an i7-3920XM and GTX 1060, and finally another GT60 with an i7-4960MX and a Quadro RTX 3000. I was wondering if any of you have experimented with the newer MXM cards on MSI laptops? I also have another question: I’m considering upgrading to an RTX 4060 or 4070 to replace my Quadro RTX 3000. Do you think it’s possible to install a Type A MXM card in place of a Type B one? Thanks everyone for your replies!

Yes mxm a can be installed, you need a full eDP screen for the best performance on your GT60. Heatsink modification is needed because the VRM and one inductor from the card are taller than anything else.
