Well it looks my delid is postponed a bit. Ended up picking up a high binned SP104 P-core, SP81 e-core from eBay in hopes it is a bit better than the my 12900k from Newegg and can close the gap with performance I saw on the Strix Scar 17 SE with 12950HX.

kool man, take your time!

btw guys, what do you think about smth like the TG contact frame? GN did one of their fantastic, super accurate reviews and found on average a 7C drop in temps, thats basically equivalent to a delid!

would it be possible space wise and mounting wise to install such a contact frame on our NH55 socket? hmmmm, i am definitely intrigued by this...

I was wondering this just yesterday since reading @Falkentyne's excellent post over on the ocn forums using one of these. It seems like a win win in any scenario. This would especially apply to you @jaybee83 since you've already had the motherboard out numerous times. Check to see if you have enough room and give it a whirl!

Nice! Hopefully it will extend your X15 even further! If it is the one I think I saw it is already delidded too right? Knock out two birds with one stone (Delidded and binned).

Yep. It is already delidded so I can use the copper IHS from the Rockit kit.

The final bid was less than I expected. 540usd seems like a great price for what it is.

Sometimes a good deal slips through the cracks and you're able to have good timing. I love it when that happens. Hopefully it gives you better results in the stock range to eeek out a little more performance.

Did you ever pick up an Asus motherboard to qualify chips on the desktop for comparison?

ok cool, thx for that bud. as far as i can tell space is definitely a concern (as usual in a laptop), combined with the actual mounting. will have to check and see if the heatsink mounting is compatible and the backplate plays ball with the contact frame... will let you guys know once i know more! right now still enjoying my vacay in greece

btw, fun fact: seems like Bitwit Kyle Hansen was in greece at the same time, but i bet he had quite the different kinda trip hahaha

Yep I hope the numbers from the SP rating and VF curve mean higher performance without an undervolt.

I don't have a desktop board yet. I notice the Z690 Strix D4 is on sale for $320 though.

hmmmm...regarding the contact frame, one issue i can foresee is that i wont be able to use the custom copper IHS by rockit cool since it lacks the "step" all around of the original IHS.

im thinking: the custom copper IHS might be worth a couple of degrees, whereas the contact frame "might" get me up to 7-8C. tricky stuff 🤔

Yeah it definitely won't work with anything else except the original IHS and any other IHS that has its dimensions.

I could see using the frame and depending on your heatsink flatness lapping the original IHS.

DTRs has reached dead end. 99.999% of all laptops is fully BGA nowadays. Aka with soldered on Cpu and GPU. Some OEMs even offer people soldered on ram and wifi. Regardless if it’s 13, 14, 15 or 17 inch laptops. Next step will be soldered on storage. Dell have already tested out this on their pc products. This is all you get for laptops nowadays.

theres a sister model with an AM4 socket that can take up to a 5950X, but no other LGA1700 socket laptop as far as im aware. definitely not socketable CPU paired with a mobile 3080 Ti around. however, this might change by fall/winter this year, lets see....hoping for the best 😅

in any case, the 3070 Ti in this system is actually trading blows with a 3080 Laptop and only lacks like 5-10% vs a 3080 Ti due to higher available TDP and desktop CPU, have a looksie:

hey guys, greetz from my vacay in greece 😄

i found the part number for the 280W brick, in case anyone is interested: Chicony A18-280P1A

Since i dont have the machine with me right now, could anyone check the outer diameter of the power plug facing the laptop? @win32asmguy@GT3000 that chicony psu comes in three different flavours, two of which are round barrel type. one is 7.4x5.0 mm outer/inner, the other is 5.5x2.5 mm outer/inner.

the NBC review of the raptor x15 actually shows a peak consumption at 260W so im hopeful that connecting the 280W psu will allow the system to draw more power. max ive seen so far was exactly at the 230W limit of the stock psu.

in any case, ive already found several different sites where this psu can be sourced from, with prices ranging 100-135€.

csm_MG_6270_c4fa91cd99.jpg

so guys, i might have some good news! i was looking around for a good source / pricing on the above 280W PSU and then i thought to myself: why stop there? so i searched for 300W models that might be compatible, and lo and behold: i found a 330W Delta model with our 5.5x2.5 mm barrel plug connector! 🤠😁😎 43% more wattage headroom, anyone? 😉

Model number is: Delta ADP-330ABD

However, as with the Chicony 280W psu above, u need to check which connector it sports, since there are several submodels, the most widely available one with the 4 or 6 prongs. BUT there is indeed a model with our barrel connector as mentioned 🙂

Sources im currently looking at for Europe:

Chicony 280W = https://www.laptop-ac-adapter.de/chicony-a18-280p1a-netzteil-78662.html#2567

Delta 330W = https://www.laptop-ac-adapter.de/netzteile-delta-19.5v-16.9a-330w-in-deutschland-2525.html#

funny enough, the Delta is actually cheaper than the Chicony LOL

so guys, i might have some good news! i was looking around for a good source / pricing on the above 280W PSU and then i thought to myself: why stop there? so i searched for 300W models that might be compatible, and lo and behold: i found a 330W Delta model with our 5.5x2.5 mm barrel plug connector! 🤠😁😎 43% more wattage headroom, anyone? 😉

Model number is: Delta ADP-330ABD

However, as with the Chicony 280W psu above, u need to check which connector it sports, since there are several submodels, the most widely available one with the 4 or 6 prongs. BUT there is indeed a model with our barrel connector as mentioned 🙂

Sources im currently looking at for Europe:

Chicony 280W = https://www.laptop-ac-adapter.de/chicony-a18-280p1a-netzteil-78662.html#2567

Delta 330W = https://www.laptop-ac-adapter.de/netzteile-delta-19.5v-16.9a-330w-in-deutschland-2525.html#

funny enough, the Delta is actually cheaper than the Chicony LOL

Nice and not too expensive! Who is going to take the plunge for MOAR POWAH!! 😅

True, post the results when you get it to get a comparative analysis versus your other 12900k's and 12900ks.

I got the golden 12900k from Fedex today. Sadly it appears to have been damaged in transit. The IHS was loose and broke off five SMD devices on the CPU. I was only able to find four of the broken off devices in the foam packaging.

Ulp, time to open a case with eBay. Don't even bother going through FedEx or dealing with a claim. Get your money back directly from the seller and they can jump through hoops dealing with a claim.

And it would take some horrific forces to remove an IHS in transit and smds. Sounds more like something they did to be honest.

Yep, got a case opened with eBay. Shame though as I was really looking forward to trying it out.

In other news, I finally seem to have an idea why P-cache undervolt was crashing. It appears that it is related to the cache speed which is 47x by default and may be too high at least with E-cores enabled. I tried 43x which did not crash immediately but instead after completing a CBR23 run.

I think cache undervolting is very important on this system, because it seems to share that limited power budget between the cores and cache. Less power used by the cache means more that the cores can use, correct?

dude wtf....please tell me that cpu was delidded. otherwise the sheer force necessary for such a feat in TRANSIT are just bonkers... wth did they do with that package? throw it off the top of the Burj Khalifa strapped to a rock and then put a stamp on it for "Airmail"? 😅

ooooh you might be onto something there, bud! try to go even lower with the Cache, see if u can reach full stability. as for the power the cache consumes, i dont think it will make much of a difference, maybe a few watts. more important thing is to get a stable undervolt on the P cores 🙂
