I'm not sure why Linus was using Linux with this laptop. I'm pretty sure this laptop is meant to run Windows, so testing should've been performed using Windows.

This is the kind of presentation that happens when you don't use something properly. Now people aren't going to be interested in the laptop because they'll think it sucks.

I did find parts of the video funny though.

It can run Linux fine as I do on mine. I am guessing what they did here was all calculated to increase the entertainment value.

The sad part is NONE of the big Youtube personalities / influencers can really give Clevo laptops with LGA sockets a fair shake, other than maybe derbauer. They don't even understand the point which is to leverage the socket to utilize high quality silicon.

yep, correct. Linus was basically bitchin' the whole time about "how thick" the machine is and how "bad" battery life must be, and how HEAVY it is, yada yada yada... thin n light crap FTW aimirite? 🤪

When Linus thinks that HS is "beefy".....you know the laptop market has shifted irrevocably.....

He does acknowledge that with Nvidia and all their mobile GPU specs that cooling matters and now as a consumer you need to be cognizant of the cooling too not just the model listed.

He makes fun of a lot of things but how they Jay Cutler'd his mug on the back of the lid is hilarious.

Did anybody who don't use Clevo Control Center tried using Obsidian Fan Control? I've tested it and it works very well... It seems to be the best third party fan control software I've tested. Can anybody recommend another software for this laptop?

oh dude, i havent thought of obsidian fan control in ages, good find! wasnt it bundled in an obsidian package of sorts with all kinds of options like driver updates, oc tools, fan control etc?

what kinda leeway does it provide in terms of fan control vs CCC for our machine?

@bca009 iirc there were two versions of it, one freeware, the other donation based. but its been a while....

Some of the utilities were free like Keyboard LED and ON/OFF fan max controls, but for the actual update utility for drivers and fan curve control you needed a license that was tied to the machine.

I know the author abandoned it quite some time ago as people kept trying to circumvent the licensing and part of his code showed up in some sellers utilities or CC tools. He became rightfully disillusioned and moved onto another project.

No, it costs some bucks. But you could also use one of the open source alternatives, which use NTPort driver...

Do you know where we can find them? I'm interested in controlling my keyboard without CCC.

You have six presets. Two of them can't be changed (the automatic mode and the max mode). Every other preset can be changed. I'll attach some screenshots. Behind the black box on my overview screenshot there are some information about your license code and there is an IP address to connect your mobile and control the fans from there (I didn't got it to work...).

Thanks. It will be good to have more information about it so we can know the limitations and hurdles instead of just speculating. If anything it should be a good alternative to high end full BGA which have their own different set of issues and limitations.

From what I understand the bios option that allows XTU and TS to work should still be supported on H670, correct? It does not matter if it is hidden or not by the stock bios as I can always modify it using EFI setup variables.

No G-Sync or Advanced Optimus. There should be a MUX as it is described as having one in the user manual. All of the tests Eurocom ran were in hybrid mode as it shows the Intel HD 770 GPU listed in the results. The manual also describes the HDMI, mDP and USB-C all connected to the Nvidia GPU as well.

Hi everyone

I consider moving to nh55jnnq from desktop and I have some questions.
1. No G-Sync means only eDP isn't G-Sync capable or doesn't work on external monitors also. Quote above confuses me.
2. Is it HDMI 2.1 capable? Eurocom specs lists HDMI 2.0 but Nvidia Ampere is HDMI 2.1 capable. Laptop will most time be connected to LG C2 42"

G-Sync is supported on external displays. On the internal panel, adaptive sync should work fine if enabled via the Intel Command Center app.

I do not have a HDMI 2.1 capable display so I cannot test that out.

aaaah, one big happy tech nerd family here at NBT, gotta love it 🤣

sooo, on another note, i got a big favor to ask for the community here: anyone willing to lend an Alder Lake K cpu for testing purposes? unfortunately, i cant do much testing with the 12600 i have in my gf's machine. it would also need to be a sku with iGPU. located in europe.

might be a long shot, but i figure id ask before going off and buying 😄

I got the SlimQ 240W charger. It works ok with the NH55JNNQ although the barrel connector is slightly loose when plugged in. It has the added advantage of USB-C charging, so I can use it to charge my 13 inch MBP which I also carry as Hackintoshing is not possible with the newer laptops. Its a shame they do not have a custom tip for the X170 series, would make a very lightweight 480W travel power adapter kit with two of them.

I also caved and bought a regular US keyboard layout from China for $50, as Eurocom was unresponsive.

Still have not delidded the 12900k. sigh. Spent most of our weekends taking day trips. Even today decided to drive up to Estes Park in Colorado which is about an hour from where we live.

first metric BUTT TON of options implemented in the current test versions. already succeeded in overclocking RAM and tuning timings (3466 CL17 right off the beat, but just quick n dirty TM5 stable), good times 🤠 more to come!
