yep its quite beefy, although from the looks of it the be quiet cable might be comparable.

highest gpu power draw ive seen so far was 465W at 1.1V and oced. havent run any 3Dmark benches yet, so curious to see what thatll bring. i want to prove without a doubt that the TX-1600 cam exceed 450W on the gpu 😋

Have you tried any GPU rendering benchmarks yet? Maybe give IndigoBench a go.

Worth a shot. I'm pretty sure I saw mainstream YT videos of people reaching 500W+, so if you can't do that maybe the 2x 8pin adapter cable is at fault. How about you switch to the 4x Nvidia Octopus for comparison?

With the Seasonic cable, can you specify power target > 100%?

ah no the number of 8pin adapters cant be compared on the GPU facing and PSU facing side. GPU facing vs GPU facing 4x8pin > 3x8pin > 2x8pin, but for PSU facing side all cables come with 2x8pin.

besides, all testing ive done so far was voltage limited, i havent seen power limits come to fruition yet, thats why im looking for more power demanding tests 😄

I don't understand this. With the 4x Octopus, you'd need 4 8pin PCIe cables coming from the PSU. Those 4 cables, would require 4 PSU-side sockets. There are no 1->2 splitters on the PSU side, just straight up 1-1 cables:

https://seasonic.com/pub/media/wysiwyg/feature-pics/PRIME-TX-1000-accessories-shadows.png

The Seasonic 12VHPWR cable can be rated to 600W but that does not mean that the PSU is actually going to deliver 600W (as per their own disclaimer).

Could simply be because the PSU is not delivering the power...

haha i dont get the logic behind this either, but apparently there is indeed a difference between the two. otherwise, why would all 600W rated direct PSU cables only have 2x8 pins on the PSU side? what i wanted to say with this is that there arent any variations between those direct cables vs. the 3-4 pronged adapters. might have something to do with losses / temp variations due to additional mechanical connections.

and yes, in theory it could be the PSU not delivering the power, but so far no indications for that. ive been hitting 3050-3180 Mhz on the core at 1.1V where i hit those 465W. i doubt that it would go above 3000 Mhz if the power were limited. as i said, i want to do some heavier stress testing first so we have better idea whats going on. will keep u guys updated!

I mean of course the PSU-side 8pin PCIe ports could be capable of delivering 300W of power each, it's just that we don't really know, although they can evidently do ~230W. Was the 465W sustained? Could that have been within the 450W tolerance margin? Unless you hit 500W+ sustained, as people seem to do, something's a bit off (especially given Seasonic's 450W disclaimer). And again - trivial to check if the Seasonic adapter is the issue, first thing I would do already.

alright its looking promising: i threw some Kombustor and Furmark at the gpu and hit the full 108% TDP = ~520 W max at peak. on average it was around 500W and bouncing off the power and voltage limits alternately.

first time i had a glimpse of 3210 Mhz on the core, holy guacamole 😂 but at that level i started to see some artifacting nevertheless, i think i got pretty lucky with this chip, seems to be quite frugal in terms of power consumption and is able to clock quite high. VRAM wise looks like im pretty average at around 24-24.5 gbps max.

lol i wish. tweaking so far was just limited to gpu since thats the easiest / most straight forward. for ryzen cpu and ram tweaking ill need to do way more research, since i havent been on an AMD system since the good old Athlon days!

besides, i figured it doesnt make sense for me to spend too much time tweaking yet, before i havent ordered and installed all the planned fans in the case. as it is right now, i dont even have an exhaust fan! 😄

only thing ive done that i had mentioned before was quick n dirty bios tuning and booting tests, with the 7950X maxing out at like 5.7/5.8 ghz all core and the RAM at around 6400-6500 Mhz.

aigfht, Hyperion all set up now and had my first real gaming session last night! im an absolute fan of the Wolfenstein series, so I started off again with The New Order. unfortunately, that game is frame capped at max. 60 fps, any workarounds result in sped up physics, bleh. in any case, everything maxxed out the 4090 settled in around 15-20% with 100-150W LOL. gotta love it 😄

as for tuning / overclocking, havent spent too much time on it yet since case cooling is not yet up to snuff. missing tons of fans, so not worth it yet to do any testing.

for now, i just set the 7950X to PBO/PBO2 with maxxed out limits and clocks, set a quick n dirty DDR5-6000 on the RAM and off we go!

ill be sure to update this thread once i get all the additional cooling gear in and the proper testing / benching / tuning starts 😉

quick n dirty run at stock. although time spy is not really interesting to me, i optimize gpu performance for 4K. thats also what i set when tuning the vRAM and core atm.

vRAM now all set at +1550 Mhz 24/7 stable (=24.1 Gbps), core currently at +200 Mhz (= 3060-3120 Mhz depending on load type and core temp), but havent finished my stability test suite yet, so could potentially end up a bit lower than that.
