Those fans I think are from the p870dm, p775dm but they are 5v and the ones from the p870dm2 tm km are 12v

 

I can't tell you which one is better, the 9900k or the QTJ1

It is annoying but as you probably know you can continue to Windows when via the ESC button. Can you please check the total time it takes you to boot into Windows? For me it is 2 minutes with a P775TM1 with a modded version of the latest XMG bios.

 

It is clear that 128GB in these machines does have some issues so it might be an idea to pull all the info together in a dedicated thread as it is really hard to come by this information. I got it running with 4 SSDs, a 9900K, 128GB memory @ 2666 and I can still use Thunderbolt for 10G network but I am not sure how many monitors I could still drive in a multi monitor setting.

The qtj1 chips will require a modded bios, not sure if that will also support 128GB memory?

In any case the ones I found are listed with a base clock of 2.1 and 4.6 turbo boost which seems kind of low to me but they are really cheap, too at around 115$ plus shipping!

 

So maybe worth a try if you get the bios sorted out but it would be easier if they could just trick the Clevo into thinking that the CPU is a 9900K.

With 2x 32GB 3200mhz sticks, It took me next to zero time to boot into windows, With 4x sticks that depending on their mood run at 3200mhz, 2800 or 2400, Not sure whwat's going on, It can take up to 3 minutes and it often behaves wierd at boot time, I'll be investigating it as I go along.

The 600 seems to be pretty good according to brother @Snowleopard due to its many different fan settings.

You'll want to modify or leave off your bottom cover though to get the most out of it as it restricts airflow a lot.

These are Crucial sticks specifically

Crucial 32GB (1x32GB) CT32G4SFD832A 3200MHz  For some reason it seems to struggle to read the SPD from them, When I had just two of them in there it would go straight to 3200mhz and not care, I think it's just the extra load on the IMC

You may want to try what happens when you manually set the sticks to 2400 or 2666.

Could be that it will boot faster and more reliably if you do that.

I would keep the Prema bios and check the other things first. My Thunderbolt also did not work but now it does, at least for my purpose - I just had to change the bios Thunderbolt settings to the first option, something like No security.

 

Here is a more detailed thread on the matter that will help the TB connection to work properly including display and probably without my workaround, I just did not get around to look into this any further:

Please note that if you "only" need a display output there are already three direct display outputs on your Clevo and it is unlikely that you will get more than three external monitors running even with Thunderbolt.

 Before you replied I actually tried a custom profile setting it to 3200mhz and it's been rock solid stable with no issues even on a high workload, I have to wonder what is being 'disabled' in the bios to make that message show up.

I only care about the PCIE component of thunderbolt, not the display component, My external enclosure will be a 10G Nic and sometimes a few other cards depending on my workload, Display output is fine, I am still planning on ordering a 4k display for the main display but only after the IETS GT600

I thought you had it set to 3200 before so it was just a matter of setting it and not waiting for the 3200 to be applied automatically? That sounds pretty good!

 

Regarding the bios message it look it is an issue with all 128GB capable bios versions so I am pretty sure it is not something you can get rid of that easily.

Nah, So with 2 sticks in, It would detect SPD and XMP profiles and auto apply max settings, But with 4 sticks in (all the same model) it wont read the SPD and XMP profiles at all and just default to 2400, Even in windows I can't read the SPD with CPU-Z when 4 sticks are in.

 

But I manually set them to 3200mhz and it's running with it and having no issues at all, It still takes forever to start up but that's not so bad.

I like it so far with the X170-SM-G, I am running it at 1000rpms and its not louder than the laptop idling, going faster the sound of the fans gradually get louder. I also ordered it from Amazon.

I made a modification to move the bios to the bottom so that it is more accessible and not have to disassemble the laptop to flash a new bios, I used a ch341a programmer pcb and the cable is from the dual connector IDE hard drives that are more thinner than those with a single connector.  I leave this in case it helps someone else.

I got all 128 to run at 3200mhz which is amazing, Boot times are still a good 2 minutes due to initialization but it is what it is.

 

You wouldn't happen to know of a way to power limit with newer drivers, this 2080S works well but I can't limit it to 180W on newer drivers and a sustained load over 180W for more than 10 minutes or so results in a system hard reset and I still can't find the culprit for that.

You could limit the frequency curve to a set frequency and voltage max by flattening the top.

The frequency actually didn't drop at all when on older drivers when limiting from 200 to 180W maybe at best 20mhz.

Anything after a specific driver mentioned earlier in this thread locks out Power control even in the Nvidia commandline, I don't know if that's specific to my way of installing modded drivers (NVCLEANSTALL) Or because Nvidia made a change.

I think you are misunderstanding what @Meaker is saying.  With MSI afterburner you don't use the power control or Mhz frequency adjuster, you hit ctrl+f (I think? when I get home I can check) and you will get the full curve that you can adjust to overclock+undervolt or whatever you want to do. If you have never tried it, then play with it, as it will give you better results then just applying the "-500Mhz".  You can probably get similar performance to normal while still have it undervolted.

I'm not misunderstanding what anyone is saying, But people seem to be mis understanding what I am saying especially when I have repeated it.

 

I don't have voltage control it's not supported.

Adjusting these does nothing.

 

To repeat the only solutions I have are

 

1) Use the older drivers and power limit to 180W this is a loss of 1-2% and frequency is still mostly the same but lose access to newer drivers because for some reason newer drivers cant use the power limit slider.

 

2) Use a -500mhz offset and it still pulls 170 watts and I lose a ~LOT~ of performance.

 

 

I am looking for a solution to use newer drivers since this 2080S does not appear to have voltage control support it's locked down.

 

 

Now, Is it locked down because one of the following?

1) I've used NVCLEANSTALL

2) I've used the wrong over-ride in NVCLEANSTALL

3) I've missed something and made an error

4) This card just doesn't have it

 

Is what i'm trying to figure out, Maybe someone who does the driver mods the traditional way might still have access to those, but current guides for those seem lacklustre and not up to date hence why I used Nvlceanstall to do the driver mod for me.

The traditional way was to do the ".inf" mod.  Laptopvideo2go used to have premade drivers that were modded, and it looks still active so maybe they might have something?
