Which GeForce models are actually available besides the 3080Ti that was already mentioned?

Am I stupid or when I checked this morning a 120Hz screen was available for the 7670? Because I only see 60Hz displays now. Anyway, a decent configuration gets up to 5k€ sadly. When do you guys say that talking with reps is usually a good idea, are you thinking of single % discounts or even some serious double digit stuff?

Does anyone know any detail about 7670 vs 7770 internals? Like cooling and such? Same for 7670 slim vs 7670 performance? 7670, has a very nice form factor for my taste and might even save me a few € but I'm curious to know if and how much cooling they sacrificed. It's also weird that previews were reporting that there's no difference between the slim and the performance chassis in terms of cooling. EDIT: on a side note, these precisions might still look cheaper than Lenovo P1 which already starts at 6000+€ when preconfigured with 12900H vPro + 3080Ti and 32GB ram

Damn, it's sad that I got a crazy good clevo build for less than 2.5k€ a few years ago and now I should spend 4-5k€ to get something as top notch as that one 😞 I have yet to decide if I want to commit that hard but spending "only" 2.5k€ now, would basically get me something barely better than my 5yo P650HP6 😞

Does that exceed 4k€? I've been away from Dell for a long time now and I configured a couple of options that looked absurdly expensive. However I was in love with my M6300 and it would be nice to get back on track with a new precision.

wait, really? How can it work some dGPUs but not on others? Is it some weird ass bios/firmware block by clevo? On my old P650HP6 with a GTX1060 the afterburner app works just fine.

It usually does. At least I'm using it on older Clevos and it works perfectly.

That would be so nice. Even more considering the 16" display! I will take a look, even though I thing I would still prefer alder lake, especially for single threaded load cases. In the meanwhile I'll also act as if such a laptop wouldn't cost me twice as much as my actual config 😄 By the way didn't the strix score 23400 out of the box with no undervolt? ...it's quite close to the 24100 of the MSI considering GT77 was running a -50mV so I don't see that much difference in the cooling system. And yeah, full vapor chamber is much better in my case. Actually I don't thing it makes any sense to have two separate cooling systems since they can't dissipate more total power anyway. It might be harder to tweak game settings to achieve a good equilibrium between being GPU/CPU limited in terms of throttling but it would be the same with 2 systems (even if less evident). EDIT: I also just noticed that the GT77 is 50mm longer than the strix. This is quite garbage honestly. It's a lot more space to cool stuff and it basically offers the same performance. The Strix has almost the same footprint as my 15.6" Clevo and yet is a 17", but the GT77 is seriously massive: not as brick-like as Alienware, but still... EDIT2: Just looked at that Lenovo and seems amazing. Unluckily they opted for a WQXGA resolution which is non-sense to me. I think they should stick to 1920p or just go to 4k to let you downscale if needed. Anything in between makes some software fonts / icons too small (and windows rescaling just doesn't to the job right) while also extra taxing the GPU during gaming. This is such a bad habit IMO.

True, but I doubt a 6900hx would get 14000-15000k cinebench by staying much quieter and/or colder. For the rest I'd also love a 3070ti configuration with FHD display and 64gb ram. I guess I have to keep dreaming though.
-
This seems really good wow. I guess the system is also very quiet at 2000 rpm right? Can you still tweak everything via throttlestop in 12th gen cpus? I hope someone will actually review 12950hx vs 6900hx at different tdp levels. Feels like Intel almost caught up in efficiency too. Also, can you reach similar scores at similar temps with the clevo?
-
How low can you get your temps if you tone down the TDP in order to get roughly a 15000 score in cinebench R23? I'm curious as this seems the score of a 6900hx. I know the 12950hx should be less power efficient than the 6900hx but it seems like there is some huge margin in terms of raw power.

Generally, I can generate a lot of heat with any scientific software. The most sustained loads however were via Matlab, Abaqus, Solidworks and few others. Abaqus and Matlab were definitely the heaviest. However those are not freeware. I guess that similar workloads could be generated with the free softwares like Calculix and Octave since they are (respectively) very similar to Abaqus and Matlab. Actually, I think that Anandtech uses Calculix as one of their scientific benchmarks. My Clevo is a P650HP6 with a 7820HK and right now I keep HT off to gain a few °C since I love quiet systems and HT on doesn't make a big difference on such scientific software. If I'm in no hurry I keep it clocked at 3-3.1 GHz all core and I'm around 70-75°C at worse (also using a laptop stand). If i get the clock to 3.8 - 4.0 GHz, turn on HT and throw 8 threads of such software I usually get easy throttle even if this CPU is quite lucky and I can keep it at -120mV undervolt.
-
How is it that unrealistic? My laptop is usually hotter during finite element simulation than under prime95 to be honest. And I've had my current Clevo run hundreds of 4-12h simulations on all cores during the years. It's also very different than gaming because you basically are on 100% cpu load and 0% gpu load. Unless he has some real scientific software to use for testing, that's the first decent thing I've thought about. Any other suggestion then?
-
Hard to say. I guess anything you can put your fingers on, be it a real scientific software (numerical simulations or whatever that allows you to throw some multi threaded load at it) or some more classic stuff like prime 95 or even something else that uses AVX.
-
Any heavy scientific benchmark (most likely avx) to check temperatures/noise on sustained loads? What about throttling / temp / noise if you run such bench on 8 or 16 threads thread only?
-
To be fair, I think that modding heatsink etc. can lead to massive improvements, however I wouldn't mod this bad boy as it would be my working rig 😄 . I was curious to see how well it does just out of the box (or with "small" improvements like repasting / adding pads). My 7820HK is still amazing, especially when undervolted and fixed a 3.1 GHz as it delivers good performances without ever exceeding 70-75°C under 100% sustained load. This also allows fans to be moderaly quiet even during intense workloads. I'm basically looking for the most flexible and yet powerful solution and I feel like a K-version Alder-Lake with four nicely tuned ThrottleStop profiles would just do the trick. However, I never toyed around with LGA laptops as they all were too bulky for me. This new Clevo is instead as bulky as my p650hp6 so I wouldn't mind having an LGA cpu. Really interested in this beast!

Can the current cooling of the NH55 handle a sustained 100-125W cpu load decently? If yes, this would make it a very good workstation considering how efficient the 12900K becomes. I have to replace my current 7820hk clevo but it's hard to find a considerable upgrade while retaining a good comprimise in terms of portability and power.

Janktop IV Sneak Peek (open source MINI ITX Laptop)
-batab- replied to StripeySnake's topic in Custom Builds
Yeah, that's fair. But I was wondering of something even more extreme. Like literally a bulky laptop at 30 mm thickness or similar. I've never really started studying any possible layout so I have no clue if it's something feasible or not but removing display, keyboard, touchpad and battery should already help quite a bit when comparing to an actual laptop. Basically pick a bulky laptop size and weight and make it a desktop. What could we ever fit in the best scenario? -

Damn, congratz on the current project! Everytime I look for a laptop I'm like: will i ever be able to get more performance/kg (and/or performance/mm^3) by carrying a monitor + sff pc + keyboard instead? I'm really amazed and I wonder if you'll ever consider building something even more extreme in terms of form factor and weight. -
Thank you guys! @Hiew @Reciever Great job!
