  1. Dominus+3175X+128GB Samsung B-Die is ALIVE!!!! Same OS and everything LOL. I love it! I did not experience a cold bug at all. XMP 3200c14 loaded on all 128GB very first try. 😎
  2. I always wanted to build one of these. Something about these huge Monolithic CPU’s is awesome and those big motherboards lol. I almost went with W790, I was doing some extreme bargain hunting lol. I had found a brand-new Asrock W790 2.0 for $599.99 on eBay (It was stripped though with no WiFi/BT, very minimalistic I/O being the cheaper 2.0 model, and still $100 over MSRP So I just didn’t love it) then I saw a used Xeon W2465X for $700 dollars. Then I was going to get a 4x16GB DDR5 6000 kit I found for about $279.99. Something about the allure of the Dominus board just reeled me right in though. I do plan to build a W790 in the near future. I’m taking a break from mainstream sockets for a while. I just don’t have any interest in them lately. I am going to piece my W790 build together slowly. These are really expensive, and I felt like I was rushing and I was going to potentially order whatever just to piece together a running system for as cheap as possible.
  3. Yeah I can’t wait for this one. You know, we are waiting on another Metro game too. But apparently they are delayed since the war that’s happening in Ukraine. I read some where that the Devs of this game grabbed some AK’s and went out to go fighting in this war 🤣 and or they live in Ukraine. Not sure if this is true or not. It was a Reddit post after all. Stalker 2 is next month though. VERY SOON. I have been waiting for this one for a LONG time.
  4. What game are you talking about? I’m waiting on these titles very very ANXIOUSLY. KDC2 Stalker 2. Cant wait!
  5. My 3175X will be here tomorrow. I’m curious to see this Dinosaur build drive a 4090 at 4K. Very interesting system that’s for sure. I’m planning to get an Alta F2 case and house the system in that. Just a shame these cases are so freaking expensive. It’s really the perfect case though.
  6. Currently using a M1 MacBook for my work directly from the La-Z-Boy 💻 😆 but I do still have a 13900KS/Z690 Hero/DDR5 handy that can be used in a pinch. But I’m going to be using this Dominus/3175X/128GB Bdie daily as a work play PC. I’m going to throw it on the test bench temporarily for setup and tuning purposes, and order a big boy case very soon that can house all of it. It does have native U.2 ports, so I can actually use my Intel Optane. I had this adapter which didn’t work at all, it had a sata power and a M.2 dongle all wired together to a U.2 plug. My idea is to have a main work PC that’s ultra quiet and ultra reliable all in a case. This will be the daily go to for gaming and work etc. And I will have the test bench ready for whatever maybe Z890, or since I’m skipping that then probably Z990. We’re about to see some extreme CPU bottleneck with the 4090 on this Dominus/3175X. 😎 It should be able to chug 4K at least.
  7. So good news. I ended up finding a real retail Xeon W3175X. I traded my Z790 Apex A04 for a complete HEDT system. I traded my Apex Z790, and (2x24GB) 8200 ram kit, SC ram block, lga1700 waterblock, and 360mm AIO. For a Asus Dominus motherboard, 3175X retail CPU, EKWB WS waterblock, EKWB DOMINUS VRM block, and 192GB of some poopy DDR4. I will have (2) Dominus boards. The only thing wrong with this system is, it needs a hair dryer to fire up, or just hold your finger on the SMD to warm it a couple seconds then it fires, most don’t know which exact SMD it is, so they just use a hair dryer blowing in the general area, very limited info on this subject, apparently this happen with prior X99/X299 Extreme boards as well (That’s Asus for ya lol). But, it actually includes the replacement SMD to fix this. So I will fix the cold bug my self once I get a magnifying glass so I can see what I’m soldering. I thought it was a really great trade.
  8. I was worried that this was the case. And I started losing interest fast from that point forward. I had a lot of fun with Rocket lake, but the only reason I bought an 11900K and got that started was because my 10900K had died. I really think Intel is trying to step back on power consumption and focus on IPC and real-world performance. Less heat, less power, less degradation lol.
  9. It’s really an interesting build lol. The motherboard included all of the original accessories, as well as (6) Corsair Vengeance DDR4 sticks but they weren’t B-Die so I did not wanna use those lol, anyways as far as I can tell all of the accessories are unopened. Even the Asus ROG thumb drive is sealed, the (2) Dimm 2 cards are factory sealed, WiFi antenna sealed, even the manual was sealed lol. The motherboard looks/smells very brand new to me. One thing I want to point out is how HEAVY and stiff the motherboard is. It has zero creak, zero flex, and is the thickest PCB I have ever seen in my life, like stacking two Apex PCB’s together. When I say zero flex or squeak when lifting it, it literally feels like holding a slab of granite is the only thing I can compare it to. It’s built to a very high standard. No noise, no flex, just crazy stiff and crazy solid. I also bought an Air cooler which I have already, I want to test boot everything before hooking water up. I’m going to upgrade the WiFi card to WiFi 6E or 7 and just use the rig. The one problem area is case selection, this is a true “XL-ATX” motherboard, so not many cases work with it. So far it looks like the Define 7 XL will work though, so I’m probably gonna grab one of those to house all of this in. I’m honestly not even certain if I can put it in the test bench. I might have to drill some holes to match, and put the standoffs in the drilled holes. This is the very simple Dynatron 3647 Narrow socket server style air cooler I have for initial testing. This socket 3647 has two cooler options. (1) is 3647 Narrow like the Asus Dominus, and (2) is 3647 Square which is what most more basic server style boards use.
  10. Dominus Build Part 1 https://youtu.be/qb0vwMWlWLE?si=zVIwWFszyF3KE9GS
  11. I’m going to make use of the ram. I work from home and I’ll be able to run a ton of virtual machines, and never close them out lol. Thing is gonna be like an army tank. High end GPU’s can be replaced every 4 years.
  12. Not yet. I’m going to run 192GB Hexa Channel DDR4 4000-4400 range. I need to acquire (4) more sticks of DDR4 to completely fill the ram slots. I really want/need the exact same kit so I’ll have to buy another 8x16, 128gb kit. It will be pretty cool. Yes a lot of ram slots! 😎
  13. Asus Dominus is in the house. And my 128GB (8x16GB B-Die) this ram kit was manufactured 02/2023!!! Amazing. Stuff is pretty fresh for DDR4 B-Die! It’s dual rank sticks and 128 gigs of overclocking goodness!!! uploading pictures
  14. Hey Intel, when you turn HT off, the power goes way down on the 14900KS. I also think the frame rates go up as well. 🤷‍♂️ 😆
  15. Z790 Apex is here and it’s very much white. https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813119690 @Mr. Fox I did find a delid tool in Germany direct from Der8auer on his CaseKing website. I might PM him directly and see if he’ll just send it to me 😃 But I haven’t gotten a 3175X yet either. I’m hesitant to order one on eBay, because there literally isn’t a single one in the USA. They are all in China. So I’m worrying about if it works, and if it’s authentic. That will be my last resort. I’m trying to locate one in the US. I have emailed a few people who had some older FS threads on Serve the Home, and also some listing I found on Mercari. And I PM’ed a couple other people who I was told apparently have one. Gonna go start knocking on doors next. 🤣
  16. Yeah, I’d have to buy the delid tool though which I may do just to replace its thermal paste with some KPX or something. These chips require extreme pressure on the IHS to break it free. But they seem fairly safe to delid from what I have researched.
  17. Those are high quality looking cards. I was thinking about this thermal paste with the Xeon W3175X. These chips are not soldered. They use thermal paste and it’s gonna be a 5 year old CPU. Now, some people complained about them having paste, but the die is so HUGE that even after delidding and adding Liquid Metal it barely even does anything to improve temps. Anyways, I’m thinking the CPU may require delidding and relidding with new paste for best performance. It’s something I don’t even want to deal with.
  18. I feel special with my 128GB of DDR4 Samsung B-Die kit. Then I watch this video how people were amazed and see it was posted 9 years ago! 🤣 It still sounds like a lot of ram to me even nearly 10 years later. It does not work that way with video cards and system storage. Nice to see that mostly all processors, ram, motherboards are all still quite useable as a whole with modern parts.
  19. These systems are pretty awesome. Definitely lots of cores and power for today, I just hope the board works okay. Many of them had a cold bug which was caused by 1 single resistor near the debug led readout. This resistor would prevent powering on if the system was in a room colder than 75F ambient, it’s an easy fix something we can replace our selves, or use a hair dryer to start our PC in the mornings lol. they also have some Cascade Lake options available as well for this socket like the Xeon 3275/3275M, and even the Xeon platinum 6158R which are both 28/56 with higher clocks but they are both locked unfortunately, so 3175X is still best option. I plan to crank it to 5.0Ghz and pull off some strong R23 runs. I’ll drop in the 4090 and see how it does with gaming lol. 😆This system is so old it’s carbureted lol. I am going to install the whole 128GB DDR4 kit, and grab (4) more sticks so it’s 192GB. This system will be the daily work mule. I may build it in a case. The motherboard is absolutely huge so I need to make sure it fits. Also, it includes (2) Dimm2 adapters. So I will definitely use these. I saw a few of the Kits like mine that were not Samsung B-Die, so make sure you read the stick and confirm it has “10B” this is for pretty much all G.Skill DDR4 rams that are B-Die 8GB, or 16GB, or even 32GB sticks which are the absolute rarest of all. Corsair is “4.31” for all B-Die.
  20. I have ultimately decided against Intel 285K and Z890 at this point. It all does feel like a stop gap generation to me. And I think following next generation 16th gen should be where it’s at. These generational gains are so weak with CPU’s and new chipsets. Sometimes you even lose performance in some areas. Lately I have realized that I’m involved in this hobby for the experience and the enjoyment. Not whether or not something is current gen, or how much time it has left until it’s replaced lol, newness of something is absolutely irrelevant. I actually decided on a retro build kinda like what @Mr. Fox did with his X99 setup, seeing that brought back memories. So I actually bought this Asus Dominus Extreme LGA3647 motherboard for a really really good price. I’m getting a Xeon 3175X 28/56 CPU next, then I’ll throw in my 128GB of DDR4 3200 CL14 Samsung B-Die on the board 🤤, and overclock it all to the moon lol. Should be plenty of fun and nostalgia. ^ This all sounded much more interesting for some reason. 🤷‍♂️ Yep, I picked up a matched (128GB) (8x16GB) of Gskill Samsung B-Die set for $250. 🤯 Samsung B-Die is VERY hard to find these days for a normal price, and people are actually scalping it left and right. I couldn’t believe it. 128GB maches kit for $250 is a STEAL for Samsung B-Die. Now I just need a Xeon 3175X, if anyone has one for-sale here let me know. These Dominus C621 motherboards actually support 192GB of DDR4 4200c17, which is pretty nuts. They should have IMC’s very capable like 10900K, only while using larger quantities of ram. The G.Skill 3200c14 (128GB) ram kit I purchased should not have any trouble running DDR4 4200c16. Maybe I can push it even further depending on IMC and amount of ram I leave installed.
  21. So I’m researching sapphire rapids W790 more and more each day. This platform is a server grade system that uses RDIMMS, server side has used RDIMM for a long time now. These are essentially 12V ram sticks. So they are different to our DDR4/DDR5 UDIMMS which are supplied with 5V. Anyways, all of the same ram IC’s you find for Z690/Z790 are popping up on the server side. Thats absolutely right, even Hynix A Die and Hynix M die 3Gbit are available in green sticks with an unlocked PMIC for full-on overclocking ability in the form of server ECC ram!!! It’s nuts lol. “Hey guys let me go overclock my server ECC ram” that’s the exact time we’re in right now. People would laugh at this years ago, but yet it is a reality! 🤣 Moving on further, I do like Sapphire Rapids because it is available with Monolithic design die and only P-Cores, and HT enabled. Let’s take a look at the prior gen 2465X this chip at only 5Ghz is a ripper!! Hitting 41K with same threads as a 14900KS while only clocked to 5.0Ghz. Newer gen clocks faster and has more cores, has faster clocking mesh/ring. So 2565X (18/36) should be hitting about 47K in R23 at only 5.0Ghz. Reading all of this about the W790 platform is awesome for sure.
  22. Im thinking about building something different. No doubt the 285K is fast. I might build an old school Xeon 3175X with a Dominus Extreme, or newer W790 with a Asus Sage board and a Xeon 2565X. I know Asus doesn’t always make the best products, and some won’t buy their products. But I have to give Asus credit for their continued support on enthusiast motherboards. Even after years pass by, they will still release updates and new bios.
  23. Thanks, much better prices from them for sure. Kinda expensive to build one of these though. I wish the new stripped down Asrock 2.0 boards were available as promised for their $499.99 price. I was able to find a great deal on ram though. All of this is just a little too rich for my blood. Let me tell me wife I require it real quick. 🤣 W790 Motherboard: $840 Xeon 2565X CPU 18/36: $1400 4x16GB DDR5 6000c32: $296 $2,500 for a budget build on Sapphire Rapids. CPU/Mobo/Ram only. 😆
  24. @Papusan ^ He even has a little rape whistle around his neck. Just in case 😆 de duplicate
