  1. You're not planning on buying one, bro? 😂 At least you will get some kind of resell value out of it. lol
  2. I was looking for an AM5 CPU block, as we know that the majority of AM4 custom blocks will not work on AM5 mobos. I started looking at Optimus again. Then I remembered I have the Optimus Foundation CPU block that @Mr. Fox gave me installed (along with the rad/fans I got from him) on the EVGA Dark X570 with the 5950X. After a bit of research, the block will work natively on AM5. Going through the Optimus website, they mention the Foundation block was "made" for AM5 but I don't see any differences between the one I have and the one pictured on their website. I am going to contact them and see if they will tell me if there was a revision of any kind. @electrosoft I have know you've tried at least two Ryzen 7000 series CPUs, but if you had to choose one 7000 CPU for 30 to 40% gaming and 60 to 70% productivity, which one would you choose? @Raiderman Same question to you but I know you have the 7950X, which I am thinking might be the direction I am heading. If you had to do it all over again, would you get an X3D chip or stick with the standard chips?
  3. Steve from GN, in his latest HW News video, basically admitted that EVGA will be shutting its doors. This is why their new XC PSU's have a 3 year warranty. So with that information, does that mean EVGA will be gone within three years - only offering support for their remaining products? I get why the owner won't sell the company but to let the company simply shut down is an injustice. Steve did mention there were personal elements involved and perhaps that's why the owner is willing to let EVGA die. I hope, one day the full story comes out. Now I have to think about the decision to buy a Z790 Dark. Will it support Intel's 14th gen? If it does but issues arise, who's going to support it with BIOS updates if the BIOS devs are leaving?
  4. One of my colleagues traded me a 7600X, DDR5 32GB 5600MT kit and cash after he damaged his mobo trying to install the 7600X. I gave him a 11900K, 16GB of RAM and MSI Z590 Gaming Force mobo. After two weeks of research and a tiny bit of push by you, I purchased a MSI MEG 670E ACE. I know it is quite the overkill board for a 7600X but I do plan on buying a 7950X when they drop to $400 or AMD's next gen processors. I got the mobo for $512 from Amazon in "acceptable" condition (it was only missing the box, otherwise it was brand new). I need 10G built into the mobo. I never used MSI before, so it is taking me some time to adjust. It's a good mobo though. No complains so far. I think I may go MSI in the future now as I won't touch Asus unless it is dirt cheap.
  5. It's ironic that Nvidia fans are attacking AMD about FSR exclusivity after all of the Nvidia exclusive features and programs that Nvidia tried to push on developers and their partners over the years (Nvidia's GPP and CUDA come to mind) that can't be used on AMD or Intel products freely and natively. Yet, FSR works on Nvidia and Intel GPUs...can't say the same about DLSS or XeSS. Tim from Hardware Unboxed has stated for some time now that FSR 2 and DLSS 2.X look nearly the same. I really don't understand the uproar. Exclusivity has been a thing for a while now and there is still far more Nvidia DLSS titles than AMD FSR 2 titles.
  6. I still have my EVGA 1600W P2 that is going very strong. It has powered multiple builds with SLI and the only one that could truly push it was the 7980XE and KP 2080 TI SLI build. I was going to build a 3090 SLI rig to see if I could punish it, but that never materialize. It lays dormant now, as I have nothing to really push it.
  7. I will likely add to the site suggestion threads, but I would love a "front page" where members can provide valuable tutorials, reviews and more. Add some areas where you can display ads and that could provide a small revenue stream.
  8. WOW...who knew Acer was going to come out and challenge everyone. The heatsinks are a bit large but it does come with a fan for the RAM. Thinking of picking up a Z790 Dark for the refresh CPUs even though I still have my Z690 Dark.
  9. @Mr. Fox I guess this means EVGA is out of the Mobo market. Crazy to see such a great brand die. Get well bro. I guess you and I are the same, as I am still getting over a persistent cold. Always happens in the summer for some reason.
  10. I have been daily driving three Linux distros. Vanilla OS, Nobara and PopOS. I think I am going to make the switch to Linux full time on ALL of my PCs (except for my job's workstation) this summer. Outside of the same Microsoft BS we all know, I love the tinkering aspect of Linux. My favorite so far is Nobara, as I have all of my film/video creation tools working alongside gaming. However, I LOVE the security focus of Vanilla OS and if you don't require anything outside of the common FOSS, it is a great OS.
  11. His shots at Steve of GamersNexus and Steve of HUB are funny and ironic. FC claims they took their issues with these companies personally, but it almost seems he has a personally problem with AMD. That commenter hit the nail on the head.
  12. While Jay and Steve are big youtubers, if Linus joins the fray against Asus, then they may feel the heat. He ended his video "and you don't care". Jay is right, Asus won't care about losing Jay or Steve. I do think Jay's video feels personal. He went into a bit of detail over their sponsorship and the pessimist in me believes he is using this saga as public leverage in those negotiations.
  13. All I can hope for, is that this is the straw the breaks the camels back. Asus needs to be cut down and lose their ROG brand's premium status in the eyes of the public. Whether that really happens or not, is to be determined. I, personally, don't think this is going to happen but I won't be buying any Asus products for awhile.
  14. As brother @Papusan likes to say, "Newer is better". Z690 Dark with a 12900K beating 13900K's and newer mobos.
  15. I think he is going to be the enemy of all of these companies. Asrock refuses to work with them. Gigabyte is still sore after that butt kicking they've received and MSI continues to get jabs here and there for their past mistakes. Now it is Asus's turn. In my opinion, I believe Steve (GN) is the only tech tuber to be for consumers. They call out Intel, AMD and Nvidia. While we may not agree with them on everything, they are fighting for us.
  16. I am not so certain that VRAM is as expensive as AMD/Nvidia make it out to be. If Intel can create a card with 16GB of VRAM and Nvidia produced a 3060 with 12GB, and sell these cards for under "$400" while maintaining a profit, it's corporate greed. I personally believe Nvidia wants out of consumer GPUs, at least on the lower to mid levels. They have successfully got their customers uncomfortably, comfortable with the idea of GPUs costing upwards to $2000. I wouldn't be surprised to see 5090/80/70 class cards north of 900 with maybe one "budget" card around 600 next gen.
  17. I think this Intel rebranding is them conceding parts of the mainstream market to AMD. Think about it. They won't have an i9 product to compete with the high end Zen 5 part, so they are going to consolidate the i7/i9 into a Core Ultra product (they definitely learned their lesson with the 11 gen cough *11900K). These Core Ultra products may not have a high number of P cores but will still compete in "efficiency", AI features and most importantly to the consumer, price. Intel is really going to copy Apple and I feel this is going to lead them to their demise. While I was hoping Intel getting their butt kicked for a bit would teach them a lesson and force them to compete on price and product functionality, it could all be too late. I hope I am wrong.
  18. Going through some of my old PC part bins, I discovered one of my first higher wattage PSU. An OCZ Fatal1ty 750W unit with red LEDs (I was completely team blue at that time, so don't ask me why I purchased a power supply with red LEDs). About nine or ten years ago, I started buying overspecc'ed PSU's for my custom builds. In the late 00's, early 2010's, you never really needed more than 500W for 90% of all custom builds. If you told people online that you purchased a 600W or higher PSU and didn't have SLI, a good portion would ridicule you. Fast forward to today, 850W to 1000W are the baseline. I remember paying $80 for this Fatal1ty PSU and thinking, I am spending a lot of money for this thing. I also remember researching the power rails, making sure they had enough amps.
  19. Not looking good at all.... https://www.tipranks.com/news/intel-slumps-on-sapphire-rapids-troubles The question is can Intel and AMD move against the tidal wave that is ARM? Enterprise is going to be crazy for the next two to three years before everything stabilizes. Intel may end up around 50 or worse, less than 50 percent of the server market. If you don't think this will affect how Intel competes in other markets, think again.
  20. Don't you have like 12 different 13900K/KS's? What's a single 4090 going to matter. Hahaha. All kidding aside, I would love to see one of your binned 13900KS and a 4090 versus his fine-tuned 7800X3D/4090 in certain benchmarks/games.
  21. All of the monitor technologies have their place. I personally use an OLED C2 for my console/PC gaming with a controller setup in my home office. It is amazing. In my basement, I have a 34'' ultrawide IPS 1440p 175Hz for competitive shooters and 27'' 4K IPS 165Hz for when I want eye candy. I am partial to my ultrawide monitors, as I love the concept and screen size.
  22. While everyone is buying new hardware, I am here performing maintenance and/or repairing my old consoles (which includes "jailbreaking"). Right now, I am working on my NES, SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, N64, Wii U and more. In addition to all of that, I am trying to archive nearly 60TB of old hard drives from my youth. Protip: Do not use Windows 10 while backing up old HDDs, Windows likes to corrupt index information.
  23. The question is, did Asus physically change anything between the 2021 and 2022 models? Asus won't come out and say they changed some things but you never know. It's like the Asus Zenith II Extreme and Zenith II Extreme Alpha. Asus claims the boards are identical outside of adding improved, VRM's but they also changed the VRM heatsink slightly.
  24. Asus replacements do not come with S/N stickers. The reason why I know this is due to all of the replacements I had to get for my Asus boards over the years. Asus sends you an e-mail with the replacement's S/N. Ask the seller for the S/N they've received via e-mail. If you toss away that e-mail, you are SOL.
  25. It is full path tracing....bro, the optimizations will come as new generations of cards. And I mean, generations of cards to enjoy full path tracing at 60fps.
