Rage Set replied to Mr. Fox's topic in Desktop Hardware
The same was said about the X99 and X299 platforms. They were never value platforms nor are any of the current workstation platforms from Intel. Those that pick up the W2400/W3400 aren't going to be using them for gaming. Either overclocking or business (or both). I was going to get a 13900K, then 13900KS. But I kept going back to those rumors about Intel's return to HEDT and it's here. Like with the 3175X before, it will all come down to the boards. I realize I am going to be spending a lot, but they better come with the kitchen sink thrown in. EDIT: The cooling requirements for overclocking alone are going to be $500+. The EKWB CPU block for C261 was like 400 to 500, if I remember correctly. -

I've seen this motherboard. What I find funny is that Intel is still using I225-LM (likely B3) as the standard controller instead of the I226. This confirms Intel knows there is a hardware issue with I226. Workstations require stability over everything else. I am not certain EVGA is going to join the fray on this platform. The SR-3 Dark didn't sell well at all, because it was so late to release. Surprisingly, the Gigabyte C621 Aorus Xtreme was the best board out of the Asus, EVGA and Gigabyte C621/C622 overclocking mobos for stability. At least that is what the common theme I saw when I purchased a 3175X and was waiting for a mobo to become available. -

Well well well....Intel is going to announce their "Workstation" SKUs tomorrow and it appears the rumors were right. While Intel is going the Pro route like AMD's TR Pro, Intel is offering more unlocked SKU's. The big problem is going to be RAM overclocking since these are going to be 4 to 8 channels chipsets. I suspect that with the right cooling, these CPU's are going to rip apart CPU benchmarks. I can finally let go of my AMD TR 3960X. -

Not going to lie, I am a bit jealous. Congrats on the card. While we joke that since EVGA has left the GPU industry, no one else can measure up, the HOF cards are the only ones that went head to head with the KP cards. I can't wait to see what you can do with it. -

The day my wife buys me a GPU is the day I cancel the order. I love her with all of my heart and being, but she doesn't know tech. I created an actual video game for her for Christmas about ten years ago and she (like me) grew up playing video games, however, since it required a mouse/keyboard she couldn't wrap her head around the controls. I built her a 10900K/3080 rig. It just sits there, unused with a keyboard that still sprews RGB vomit. With all that said, she is the only person, personally around me that has zero problems with the fans blasting on my MORA radiators. -

I would take you up on that offer, but I still have hardware to get sell through. As crazy as it sounds, I do want to have an EVGA GPU collection. -

Thank you two for your perspectives. I am not going to hijack this thread with any thing political. I wanted to see how others view it. I am going to keep my ability to protect myself but I am now going to go about it in a different way. I have seen a material difference in buyers when stating my protective measures. I was taught well and I never, ever want to intimidate someone with it (my height and size alone does that). I only meet up at or quite close to police stations, I guess that is why the majority of buyers still come to complete the transaction. -

An interesting story and a question for you all. I had someone message me on FB Marketplace about a GPU I have for sale. I noticed the profile was completely sparse. Interesting. The person haggled per normal but we agreed on a price. He asked about meeting in a city between him and I (he supposedly lives in Mass.). I told him I normally deal in the surrounding cities because I only meet near Police stations and I notify the police dept of the city I am heading to ahead of time to let them know I am legally armed and I will be in their city (this protects me in several ways in this very leftist state). His messaging tone changed. I told him I could meet him in a different city (ten minutes away from the city he suggested). He quickly changed his mind. He told me it was too far and he's now going to be pressed for time after work. Strange. I do tell all of my potential in-person buyers that I am armed. I rather they know ahead of time before seeing me in person with my holstered weapon. Should I stop doing this? Telling buyers that I am armed? If you were going to meet with someone to buy something from them and they openly told you they were legally armed, would that cause you to cancel the transaction? -

I agree. My gaming PC is actually my fully custom watercooled 5900X/6800XT build and I have a 3080/3090 and 6900XT. Truthfully, I am using this rig because it looks the best and I spent about 1000 on watercooling components. I play games on my LG C2 in 1440p...right now I'm deep into Elden Ring. -

Are you using MPT alone? With my card, I am able to adjust the PPT with MPT and writing the SPPT, then restarting my computer. The changes take hold. -

We have lots of below zero weather for all of you...except @Papusan here in Connecticut. Right now 15F (-9.4C), but with the wind chill 3 degrees. It is going negative tonight and most of tomorrow. Perhaps it is a garage overclocking type of night. -

Thanks. Before I dissolved my MSP company, I was technically sponsored by it. I "got in good" with several companies, including Intel. At one point, I was testing memory/storage technologies before they went public. I am a bit of storage lover...or rather hoarder. As the son of a Funeral Director/Embalmer, I grew up with a different spiritual fitness than others. I am sorry for your loss but to honor her, remember the memories you've created together...keep those memories close. In time you will begin to heal. -

Perhaps, if I had the A770 at the very beginning of its launch, I would have a different opinion. As it stands now, the A770 is criminally underrated. I had it installed in my 11900K gaming build, testing it with several games and I had none of the major problems that were reported. If there were cheaper blocks for it, I would have blocked it already....however I love how the cooler looks and feels. -

Luck only comes in when buying a component. The skill is extracting the most performance out of that component. Variables will always be a determining factor when overclocking a component, but the skill/experience is knowing how to identify the variable(s) that can cause an outcome. I know TimeSpy/Firestrike so well, I know by heart what a 1080 TI to a 3090 should score based off their overclocks. Here is an example I did on an MSI 2080 TI stream. I have it at the exact spot where I guessed correctly where the score would land based off my skill/experience. -
A couple of years ago, I thought to myself. I may become a youtuber and I should get ready for that with a homelab with 10G around my home. That was my excuse. I use to own and operate an MSP and we routinely designed and deployed networks upwards to 100G, yet at home, I ran a 1G network. It is only when I built two flash servers (alongside the idea of becoming a yt'er) that I wanted a 10G network. A lot of my setup is overkill and I know that. My home rigs, workstations, IOT, consumer devices and mobile devices are on separate VLANs. ISP: Xfinity Business 1.25G. Modem: NETGEAR CM2000 Router: Lenovo ThinkCenter - Intel i5 - 32GB - x2 2.5Gbs NICs with PFsense Switch: Main switches: 1x MicroTik CRS312-4C+8XG, 1x Zyxel XS1930-12HP POE switch. Various 1G to 2.5G - 5 to 16 POE port switches. Wireless access point: x2 Netgear AXE11000 in AP mode. (only because at the time I built this 10G network, there were no consumer level 6E APs on the market in stock for purchase) Network cards: I have four servers and three NAS devices - all with 10G NICs or higher. All of my main computer builds have built-in 10G nics, except the builds with Dark mobos. Misc: Cat 6A/7 cabling installed throughout the house. About 16 POE cameras.

Steve at GN made an interesting point in his News video. With MSI Afterburner not being supported by the developer any longer and EVGA not really supporting Precision X, what will Nvidia GPU owners use to overclock future cards or worse, current cards? -

While we have had poor luck with Asus mobos, I will say I have never had issues with an Asus GPU (even the TUF series). From the 1080 TI up to the 3090, they were good to great. It just so happened to be beaten by a KP card. -

That is the KEY issue with RDNA3. My watercooled 6800 XT with PPT can beat the majority of 6900 XT's and my 6900 XT with PPT is above the 6950 XT variant, even when overclocked. To be fair, my 6900 XT is technically a 6950 XT because they share the same core. Now I don't even need to upgrade my 6900 XT. With a mild overclock coupled with the PPT, my card is within 90% of a stock 7900 XT. Any enthusiasts that do buy a 7900 series card are likely going for points or were hoping like the 6000 series, that the PPT would be unlocked somehow. -

I use only Noctua iPPC 3000 PWN fans with both MO-RA radiators I have and I love them. I have a total of 30 of these fans in various builds around my home office. I got tired of replacing fans from other brands, mainly EKWB. I never needed quiet focused fans but I also the guy that slapped three delta fans to a modded laptop cooler.
