Well, you and I are kinda in the same boat as Buildzoid. While he does get to keep free samples from Gigabyte (mobos only), he is on his own with everything else. MSI samples him but he has to return those components. Asus and Asrock refuse to sample him because he constantly slams their products. Outside of again Gigabyte and G.Skill, he has to buy all of his parts...even G.Skill doesn't give him their highest end products. I would imagine if he were "nicer" to the corporate overlords, he would get more free parts. However, since he is accustomed to long rants, his true feelings often come out, lol. -

For those on 13th Gen - TDLR; Buildzoid spends an hour crying about/bashing Intel 13th gen chips for not being able to handle 8000+. He has used a lot of Z790 boards, including the Z790 Dark for his 8000 memory testing. I guess for right now, don't spend big money on DDR5 rated for 8000, as it is useless? He cracks me up though. -

I confirmed that one of my local MC's (Yonkers, NY) allows the warranty upgrade trick. Since NY has four or five MC's, I am going to see if the others allow this. I found out through a buyer of a gaming rig I sold to, that a lot of people do this. I know at the end of the day, monetary wise everything works out in MC's favor, but it is still a crazy concept to allow. I assume their warranties are a bit more costly than the average consumer electronics warranty. -

Reliability and support are key in enterprise, as you likely have assumed. So far, in my experience using AMD in enterprise, they are surprisingly as reliable as Intel [once] you get through any bugs. That said, Intel is still overall, better in support. Although, some of my peers will argue that is only due to Intel's historic ironclad vertical integration. -

It is very true. In Enterprise, Intel products are getting murdered left and right. AMD's foothold in enterprise is growing faster than even the numbers reported in that video due to mindshare and as Linus pointed out, the contracts are saving Intel's butt right now. However, Intel has a chance in HEDT/Workstations if they just match AMD's prices (TR Pro). I am no longer going to buy AMD CPU's after what happened to TRX40, so I am crossing my fingers W790 is going to be good. -

If you were the CEO of Nvidia, would you increase supply in order to then have ASP's go down? I don't think you or I (or anyone else in this thread) would...unless you don't want a free market. Nvidia has already stated supply isn't an issue, thus why they and AMD are holding back shipments. -

I loaned him the card so he could see both sides, but it is likely a short excursion and not a permanent trip. I would like to see him test it in Linux. -

I love how you are beating the majority of 3090/Ti's with that card. If only AMD put the same effort into ray-tracing that they did with rasterization. -

I am not happy they didn't include the backplate screws...which makes zero sense. Now I really wish I had blocked that card when I first got the waterblock in. Unfortunately, there is not much I can do since I purchased that block over a year ago. I am still going to e-mail the manufacturer. EDIT: I am wondering if those temps are due to the increased power limits of this model. My blocked MSI 6800XT (stock voltage) doesn't go anywhere near those temps. -

That is an easy answer, because people were crying about the lack of 12/16 core variant during the launch of the 5800X3D. There was a reason why AMD didn't launch those high core processors and they should have stuck with the same logic. So this time AMD decided to rob those people that wanted the 12/16 core X3D parts. The crazy thing is these parts are still going to sell, regardless of what we think. The 7950X3D is sold out everywhere and the 7900X3D is selling better than it should.... -

WOW, I did not know about this. I'm definitely going to take a look at that. VRAM is what is going to make or break your scores with AMD. Your baseline score is already way ahead of mine in TS. https://www.3dmark.com/spy/24834859 -

Wow, that's puzzling. The benches I ran with it, never reached 80C. With that said, I ran it in a much cooler ambient environment. Nothing like NVClean on AMD that I know of. I usually install the drivers, set my overclock and then close out the interface, completely. EDIT: How much power is the card pulling? -

I'm sorry in advance for not installing the block. As you can from the plastic film still around the air shroud, I used it sparingly. I was going to block it during the summer and replace the 6800XT in my other rig, but the 6800XT does everything I need it to. I eagerly await your benchmark results and to see how far you can push it. -

If you were in the states, I could offer some desktop hardware. I know the feeling of being lost, but I have my ways to find myself. Working out, infecting my network/PCs, reading and filmmaking are all things that keep me sane. I also have a woman that knows when to knock me on my head to get my attention or let me be. Find your muses. Everything else will work itself out. -

Andddd it's off! I am curious to see what Mr. Fox does with AMD on the GPU side of things. On one hand, it is a new experience and the chance to gain some points. On the other hand, I suspect his visit with AMD to be short-lived, hahaha. Mr. Fox, my advice is that dialing back the voltage aka undervolting on AMD GPU's will help you in certain benchmarks. One last thing, I don't remember using MPT and Red BIOS Editor on the Asrock 6900XT, only on my MSI 6800XT. I don't think I did it because I wanted to wait until I blocked it and as you will see, I never did block it. -

I didn't even know about the MC warranty policy, although I generally don't hold onto hardware long enough to invest time or money into a warranty. That is crazy, even if it is store credit. This may push me to drive the hour and half to my local MC more often. -

Yes! That is why I am not buying a 4090. I know the 4090 TI will be coming and I've learned my lesson with the 3090. While I have A LOT of anger in my heart with AMD over the TRX40 shenanigans, I wasn't angry with them with the 6900XT getting replaced with the 6950XT. I think it due to having a 6900XT that is a 6950XT in everything but name. You also hit the nail on the head with AMD and Linux. If you are willing to pay shipping back and forth, I will let you borrow my Asrock 6900 XT with the block (I purchased the block, but I have never blocked the actual card.) for a month, so you can test things out. If you end up wanting to keep it, we can work out a fair price for both or you can simply ship it back. I really don't use it any more, it is sitting in my X570 Dark rig. -

Buy a cheap 6950 XT with a waterblock, get some points and sell it. You will also get to see what the Red users were using with the MorePowerTool. The downsides are you won't have a huge pool of buyers when you sell and AMD's own overclocking tool can be funky sometimes. It loves to crash when you push the card too far. -

You have to consider brands. While the majority of the people in this thread loathes Alienware as it stands now, they are like the Apple of PC laptops. Higher resell value because everyone knows them. MSI tends to be lower on the totem pole compared to Alienware or even Asus. I use to be into Asus/Alienware laptops before I was introduced to DTR's like Clevo on NBR. Now my current play toy is a Lenovo Legion 11980HK/3080 that I keep with me at my office. A lot of my colleagues were like "We didn't know Lenovo made gaming laptops" and then start talking about Alienware laptops; these are actual Cyber SecOps and Network Engineers...people that are supposed to know computing. Go figure. -

The FB Marketplace is becoming a nonstarter. Lots of lowball offers or if I do get an acceptable offer, the person is more than 50 miles away. I don't want to ship anything to people I don't know and have them claim it wasn't delivered, otherwise i would have bit the bullet and sold on eBay. I've tried LetGo, Craigslist, and others. Either scammers that can't read or still think I'm going to fall for their scam anyway, lol. These components/rigs are going to fund my W790 escapade. Crossing my fingers! -

There is no doubt why Intel combined traditional HEDT with workstation. They could charge much more. To be fair, Intel did charge an arm and leg for the halo parts on the X99 and X299 platforms. I also don't mind that they are using older tech. Remember, Intel's HEDT platforms were always a gen behind mainstream in terms of core architecture. The only thing I wish is the ability to use non-ECC memory. I don't see Intel bringing all P-cores to mainstream. Non-enthusiast media and consumers are already complaining about the cooling and power requirements for 12/13 gen, I could only imagine the tears if they used only P-cores. -

Wow. Intel HEDT is back indeed. I am impressed. Competition is back and I'm loving it. EDIT: There is no doubt you will need two PSU's on two different circuits for this platform if you plan on overclocking...even with the 24c processors. I'm so excited. -

I've upgraded both of my AMD 6000 series GPU rigs to the latest graphic drivers, with no problem. I even let the rig with the 6900XT do a full factory reset within the driver upgrade, it rebooted fine. I am unsure why some people are having issues with it, unless AMD changed something in the driver installer the past day or so. Thanks for the update about the vulnerability with Ryzen Master. I didn't know there was an update. -

I completely agree. One of my servers in my homelab has a W-1290 in it and its a beast with that iGPU. But I think those days are coming to end.
