  1. Rock me Amadeus was big in Australia back then.
  2. I know you must be right. I just didnt dive deep enough to find the information. Soon its all in, no more toes in the water. Yep, extremism, bane of the world!
  3. Have you seen the movie From Dusk Till Dawn? This is the song thats playing when all hell breaks loose in the ...*(Cant say the name)*.....bar. Awesome movie. I didn't know anything about it before I watched it. Plot twist was a shocker. Clooney, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, Cheech Marin, Danny Trejo, Quentin Tarantino and Salma
  4. In one of my previous lives I was a welder/fabricator. Mostly specialising in aluminium welding. I no longer have a workshop or tools but Janktop V4.4 I may try to make with a aluminium case. See how it goes.
  5. I may have misplaced my floppy disk Just kidding. Cool. Actually when they overhauled Halflife I thought of a lot of old games I would like to replay, like Crysis remastered. I hope someone can do Wing Commander
  6. Looks great Yes I understand the hinge issue. My alienware (as you know) feels like a tank, never an issue with hinges. The Legion though feels like I could rip the screen off if I was a little too .....enthusiastic. So long as the thermals work out. I can see the Janktop style form factor being my daily driver computer of choice for the future. With something like my lenovo for away games. Until one of the big brands start offering me something I want and not thin and lite diet BGA rubbish with hamstrung components they want to sell...Im just not giving them my money. So work out the hinge flex and take my cash
  7. The biggest issue I had with a few different flavours of Linux was lack of a control panel (same with windows 10 actually) I couldn't get my head around not being able to see which drivers it was using for what hardware. General setup or change configuration (win 10 really screwed with me trying to hide the control panel ) This was all out of the box linux, no compiling kernels or anything technical. My last experiment was Zorin OS. Based on Ubuntu and looks really similar to windoze. Once I'm more comfortable with command line I might look at other distros. My next 'laptop' will be a Janktop. I will be trying to expunge M$ windows in favour of Zorin at that time. (With a VM windows10 for those softwares that I cant replace immediately)
  8. You had me stumped with this one. I couldn't find it in any of my dictionaries. I ended up asking a guy I work with (Native Japanese) He had never heard of it either, but. (Yeah I will end that sentence with a preposition ) Ko in front of a noun means its a smaller version. ie Inu is a dog, koinu is a puppy, neko is cat, koneko is kitten. kotako means a small otaku. I guess this means a child otaku, or more likely a 'tween' https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotaku https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kotaku コタク Kotaku - is also written in Katakana, which means it is not a native Japanese word. おたく Otaku in Hiragana, Native Japanese word.
  9. Rockin out with these two cuties is my fantasy
  10. For me something like the portable screen/keyboard is ok. If it came in a 17" flavour with full size keyboard. Thats if I wanted a quick (Or maybe just easier) desktop build. But like a lot of people here I like to fix broken things; I like to "fix" things that are not broken; And I love to hotrod my laptop So for me right now the Janktop is my Number 1 choice.
  11. Something like this? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005002596633741.html but plugs into a desktop ?
  12. Definitely add your time value to price of the kit. I can see 1 or 2 kits as proof of concept and word of mouth advertising being free as ok. But You have to pay yourself a wage!
  13. Maybe they are waiting; but on this forum I am wondering why more people are not commenting. Everyone here literally wants the best that their hardware can give. Oh well. I love the idea.
  14. Ok, thin mini is out. Good to know OH...that's a good video. I can see at 03:09 that it uses a similar water cooler block to @StripeySnake first picture. And at 07:31 how he connected the GPU laying on its side. See I am that ignorant when it comes to desktop hardware, I didn't know there was a cable! There was also a good comment about using a touch display. Thank you @FredSRichardson
  15. Thats why I would be interested in a kit. 3D printing is not something I want to play with just yet. I thought yours would look something like this xbox laptop (except with a keyboard and 17.3" screen) I have been doing some research and a thin mini ITX with external power brick might also cut down on thickness/weight if combined with M2. to pcie riser card adapter...?? https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32885396067.html https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005003070797631.html Just an idea after I found thin mini boards dont have pcie slots and the whole point of this build it to fit desktop power into laptop portability. Keep up the good work
  16. I like the briefcase builds but without a screen and keyboard its a no deal. Your Janktop on other hand I'm about 90% certain I will buy a kit. It checks all the boxes of what I'm looking for. Lenovo, MSI, HP, Clevo (and yes even Alienware) can go suck it! I am not buying BGA thin crap if your Janktop is available. I also checked out the Caliburn, nice.....If some armoursmith could just make a working Tikhar from Metro Exodus
  17. Sorry I have given you the wrong impression. What I ment by 'possible parts list' is more a brand/combo of motherboard/cpu/water block that would fit into your Janktop form factor without too much modification. ie gigabyte mobo/intel cpu/nameabrand water thingo Asus board /ryzen cpu/adifferntbrand water block....?? What is the brand of motherboard/cpu type in the first picture? What is the mobo/cpu combo you would really like to have?? I literally am ignorant of current desktop hardware......but that being said, dont spend a lot of time on a reply. Finish your test type and determine if a kit is feasible. Im on this forum so its a good guess I can play around with hardware and I can always get advice on a parts list here. EDIT: Sorry I was just re-reading your previous posts and you have already answered some of my questions about mobo/cpu. Ignore this for now, I will ask specifics once you have a solid "yes we can" Also speakers? Does your have audio?
  18. Exactly what I was thinking. Performance wise I can not get a "big brand" name laptop with the specifications I want. All this thin and light with crippled BGA gpu garbage etc. If @StripeySnake were to make a kit available (With an quick and dirty 'possible parts list'!?! (I haven't built a desktop in a lot of years and just I'm not up on current desktop specs)) it would be a real contender for my next pc dollar$
  19. Just my lifestyle I do not want a desktop. But a thick laptop always on AC that is component upgradable; that is worth something! I really want to see your final product. Awesome idea I was thinking clevo for my next laptop, but your idea interests me even more!
