  1. @janepa If you have an eDP laptop (DP_D eDP) with a MXM slot, please try the mod by soldering pins 278/280 to pins 23,25 and 27 for the backlighting. You'll see that your 4090, 3070 and RTX 5000 will work with the main screen. Try it please.
  2. Hello. Do you know where the eDP is on the X-VSION 4080/4090? I see eDP port on NVIDIA's control panel but I don't get it. I don't get it on which port the EDP is? On port DP_E??? does that even make sense? Please let me know, X-VSION's datasheet shows eDP on DP_B... My flex cable is just to enable the backlight pins back so we can have a display at the end. Most Turing to Ada are lacking the pins. Most of them have DP and eDP on DP_D The picture I sent clearly shows how it works. I see no LVDS conversion. It just 3.3V to power the backlight pins, that's it.
  3. Change laptop, get the G4. The mux switches are making everything complicated too, it's very hard to do physical mods.
  4. Hello again. I think G2 and G3 are different than G4, G5 and G6. G2 and G3 doesn't have eDP on D but on C for the MXM slot. G4 to G6 they have eDP on D for the MXM slot.
  5. No idea about your GPU. I know that every Pascal GPUs have the BACKLIGHT pins working. The brightness depends, it can be controlled thru the laptop's motherboard. For my laptop, it's outside the MXM card. It's called BRIGHTNESS_R with one resistor. Your issue is maybe due to a vbios configuration. You need eDP on DP_D since most or "every" Pascal VBIOS has the eDP port declared in the vbios.
  6. I contacted ZRT, X-VSION to bring back the backlight supports, they didn't seem to care at all! So I stepped in!
  7. Hello everyone! Do you want to upgrade your old laptop MXM GPU? But you can't since the newest RTX Turing, Ampere and Ada aren't working with your eDP display? I have the solution for you! The backlight mod to enable eDP display for your MXM card! Finally the mystery was resolved on why these cards don't display in our eDP laptops. Every cards from Turing to Ada generation, from brands like Aetina, Adlink, PNY, ZRT and X-Vsion will work with this mod! What was the issue with these cards then? They were all lacking 3 essential pins. These pins are used to power on the panel. They are called backlight pins! Without them, your screen stays black, even if you have eDP or DP signal in the right video port. The solution: Making a solder-less mod, a flex FPC cable that allows to power the 3 backlight pins with ease! Version 1 manufactured. The 3 backlight pins are set in 23, 25 and 27 pins of the MXM slot and the MXM card. What we're trying to do is to power the backlight pins using the 3.3V from the pins 278 and 280, that's it! The flex cable is going to be insulated and will be able to handle high temperatures! I'll use double-sided insulated tape for the back side of the backlight pins, to secure the installation. Where can I get one? You might ask. You can purchase them online, I'll even give a PDF file for instructions. Price (without shipping): 16.5€ on PayPal Friendly (DM me) 18€ on eBay (listing available, just search for it) We can finally have an RTX 4080 or an RTX 4090 in the master slot of the MXM and output thru the main eDP display! Clevo P870 with dual RTX 4090? P570WM with an RTX 4090?! P775 with an RTX 3080 Ti?! Will work with (for MXM slot that allows eDP or DP on DP_D and cards that lack the backlight pins) RTX A3000 (XVSION), RTX 3060, RTX 3070, RTX 3070 TI, RTX 3080, RTX 3080 Ti (ZRT, X-VSION) RTX 4050, RTX 4060, RTX 4070, RTX 4080, RTX 4090 (ZRT, X-VSION) RTX 3500 Ada (Aetina), RTX 5000 Ada (Aetina), RTX A4500, RTX 3000, RTX 4000, RTX 5000 (Aetina, PNY, Adlink) (Tell me if I forgot some cards) Brightness control works on my P570WM with 4080 and 4090 if the vbios is set to eDP out. Sleep mode and saving modes work. RTX 3000 PNY and RTX 4070 worked on the Clevo P870, need to test more cards such as 4080 and 4090. Disclaimer, Requirements! - This mod can work with laptops that have the eDP set to DP_D and has the backlight pins assigned in 23, 25 and 27 pins in the slot - The BIOS of the laptop shouldn't have any whitelist - The BIOS should be in pure-UEFI - You need to have an eDP display that supports DP 1.1-1.2 (2011-2013 laptops) at least for RTX Ampere GPU - You need to have an eDP display that supports DP 1.3-1.4 (2014-2019 laptops) at least for the new RTX Ada (or install/edit EDID data in the OS with old DP 1.1-1.2 screens) ___________________ After a lot of research and some testing with soldering, that's the conclusion to the solution! Thank you!
  8. New custom heatsink for the P570WM! Will arrive soon to me. I have 3 of them available, if someone wants to buy one, let me know. Compatible for the MXM cards with centered die! Such as RTX A3000,3060,3070,3070 Ti,3080, 3080 Ti,A4500,4080,4090 from X-VSION and ZRT! Up to 175W of heat compatibility! 4 heatpipes for the GPU cores and aluminium cooling for the VRAM/VRM!
  9. Hello. It's late I know. These cards from Aetina, ZRT and X-VSION aren't working with eDP laptops screen, despite having eDP or DP on port D. You need to mod your MXM slot to bring back something. You see, the screen needs to get started in order to display something and the backlight isn't on... You need to mod and make the backlighting work again. These cards work on Optimus too.
  10. @Developer79 Hello are pins 278 and 280 mandatory like pin 240 and 242? Or should they always pass to the GPU? It's just one line with some capacitors on the way. Some MXM cards don't have them visible, maybe it's inside the multi-layered PCB.
  11. Yes, I recommend PayPal too... but they aren't helping me right now... They don't want to test the backlight mod to bring back display on their test eDP laptop... Their response time now isn't very reactive ATM.
  12. I got a Xeon E-2286M QS and I'll undervolt it. The seller said he can't modify "the bios". Where can I get the latest bios for it? P870KM. I found one online for 9900KS 128GB Thanks.
  13. Hello I did this and it's in production Yes for the 3 pins, the reverse side will have some very thin layer of double-sided tape. I added some shapes to the extremities so we can stick with some tape. Won't short-circuit, can handle over 230C of ambient temperature.
  14. M17X R4 is the same M17X R3 eDP in terms of MXM pinouts and connector. Did the Quadro Pascal or GTX 1070M ever work on the R3? Because they do on the R4.
  15. Hello some news! The manufacturing has started! I'll get the samples maybe this week, but I'm not sure. Here are some pictures on how the backlight mod should work: Here is how it should sit on the top side of the MXM card This mod will work on any Turing to Ada MXM cards that are lacking the 3 backlight panel pins and also the ones who have eDP or DP on port D! You'll finally have a display on your internal screen!
  16. Pascal doesn't run on LVDS display of your M18X R2. You're stuck with a GTX 980M or M5000M for that type of display. Pascal only does eDP display. You can still do M5000M for master + P4000 for slave or Intel HD + P4000 in SG.
  17. Already planned an instruction for that. All the measurements for the pins and pitch are good! It's just about installing it on the right pins! The instruction could help! So it's kinda safe if you know what you're doing! Just like soldering! Always a risk if you don't know what you're doing
  18. Hello people! Good news! I made some progress to get the RTX Turing, Ampere and Ada cards to work on the eDP display! Brands like Aetina, Adlink, PNY, X-VSION and ZRT will work with the mod I'm going to manufacture the next week! All of these cards have something in common... They all miss the 3 backlight pins and they all have eDP or DP on the port D (DP_D)! That's it! With my new solution, it'll be a solder-less mod! It'll be easy to apply on the pads of the MXM card with a very flexible flex cable! In theory it'll work 100% like the solder mod! Stay tuned for other updates!
  19. Hello guys. I managed to finish the design and I'll find a manufacturer. Edit: I found a manufacturer for making the flex cable mod! It'll get produced on monday
  20. Hello. Do you know the width of one MXM pin? Is it 0.3mm? 0.35mm? Literally no information online other than one thing... 0.5mm pitch, that's it. Here's how it should be.
  21. @Developer79 Solder-less idea, using thin flex cables and one wire. (Sorry for the bad example)
