Yeah replace all those CSD87350Q5D mosfet and add the 3 "missing" one, the card will be very solid and could handle power mod to 150W without much trouble (require good thermal pads and contact with the heatsink)

XPS 9500 Display upgrade from FHD+ to QHD+ or UHD+ or even Oled ?
TheQuentincc posted a topic in XPS
Hi, I recently got my hand on an XPS 9500 with a broken windows installation for cheap. I'm looking into a screen upgrade because I can't stand FHD anymore (and there is keyboard marks on the display...), the original display is a Sharp 15.6" 1920x1200, it seems like the XPS 9500 was also shipped with an LG with similar specs. By looking at the LG specs it does use a 40pins eDP connector but only on 2 lanes when higher resolution needs 4 lanes. So that's why I wonder if the original cable in the XPS 9500 can be 2 lanes only (for cost reduction purposes) or if all XPS are fitted with a 4 lanes cables ? Also does someone ever tried an OLED display in the XPS 9500 ? I know the 9510 got it but I heard that OLED display needs to be specially supported by the laptop for the brightness to works properly. Finally I wanna know what do OLED users thinks about their laptop display ? I heard windows cleartext or whatever isn't supported... but also that OLED display have a very short lifespan so I'm still hesitant about which display technology I'm gonna buy 😕 Thanks all 🙂 -

You are not forced to use any screen SKU, you can buy anything you want/like, just check the specs on panelook before hand (that's how I found and then bought used the superb BOE NE156QUM-N6C my 7550 is currently running with)

You probably can by editing nvram value 🙂 -
GeForce GTX 980M voltage regulator mod
TheQuentincc replied to DoenerBoy123's topic in Components & Upgrades
In my experience, always solder the max amount of mosfet on an MXM card, their mosfet cooling solution (depending on laptop) is so poor that they get reeally hot even at stock. In the end it improve efficiency and makes the losses spreaded across more mosfet/surface area. -
Precision M6700 owner's thread
TheQuentincc replied to Aaron44126's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
@GREYSTAR please don't PM me but write here. The GTX 1070 does not work on M6700 and Windows, it might be working on linux but that's it. P3200/4200/5200 were never tested in the M6700 so we have no idea if it could work, furthermore as far as I know those Px200 require to some soldering job to modify the card (soldering eeprom). Finally an INTERNAL (eDP) 4K 120Hz indeed require at least a Pascal GPU (there is some vbios update for desktop Maxwell to get them running DP 1.3/1.4 but probably not available for laptop), if you want to plug an EXTERNAL 4k 120Hz you are out of luck, the M6700 is limited by the PS8330B IC (soldered on the board and not replaceable) only supporting DP 1.2 (and so 4k 60Hz). Indeed @TruenoG7does require to flash the vbios made available in my earlier posts, the safest way is using a CH341A with a clip and the 1.8v adapter, using nvflash might be tricky. -
I didn't figured out how to remove the 135MHz limit, you should check techinferno, they might have some. Otherwise just edit the bios using Maxwell Bios Tweaker and increase boost table by 135MHz, that way you could OC further and further by 135MHz step in bios + up to +135MHz with Afterburner.

Precision M6800 questions and upgrades
TheQuentincc replied to Jers6410's topic in Pro Max & Precision Mobile Workstation
Well, I used an external programmer to flash the vbios of the P4000, a CH341A + 1.8v adapter is like 5~10$, I never bothered using software programmer like nvflash because it's a real PITA. -
HI, I finally decided to upgrade my daily laptop with a wonderful 4k display, in this case the BOE NE156QUM-N6C which is one of the best currently available 15.6" UHD IPS display (IPS, 60Hz, 10bit, HDR400, 600nits, full DCI-P3 coverage, ) https://www.panelook.com/NE156QUM-N6C_BOE_15.6_LCM_overview_48042.html SIDE NOTE ABOUT OLED : I read 2 or 3 times that OLED panel needs to be supported by the laptop bios/firmware otherwise you might lack brightness control My Precision 7550 (which is similar as a 7560) came from the factory with the 1080p DCI-P3 500nits display and the regular camera (not IR). I firstly ordered one of the few eDP "UHD" cable available for the 7550/7560 which is "0CM4DM" part number, however I didn't realised this cable was only made for the IR camera configuration (on which you can't plug the regular camera, futhermore it require display frame and cover replacement to even be able to fit an IR camera, IT'S NOT WORTH the money imho), also this cable have a 40 eDP connector with 0.4mm pitch while my screen have a 0.5mm pitch.... So I ordered a second cable "02KWM2" part number which have the connector for the regular camera, like the previous cable it also have a 0.4mm pitch... (NOTE : it's a bit weird I can't found a 0.5mm pitch cable for the 7550/7560 because the 4k display version sent to reviewers were using a panel/connector with 0.5mm pitch) I finally ended up buying one of those adapter which works flawlessly : https://fr.aliexpress.com/item/1005002211991684.html (basically you plug the 0.5mm pitch part into the screen, golden pad facing the top, then you bend the cable over to make the 0.4mm pitch connector at nearly the same position as the display connector) I really enjoy this upgrade, the hardest part was to swap the cable, indeed you need to nearly disassemble the whole laptop which is a PITA (even more when you have liquid metal on your CPU). I'm now looking into upgrading my RTX 3000 to a better card (to handle more pixel in word :p) I can't recommand you enough switching to a QHD/UHD display for your work computer if you have a good view, it require so little more power if you aren't using 3D render at full resolution and it makes text so much clearer, also contrast ratio and brightness are nice improvement, totally worth the 180€ total for the upgrade.

Same principle as this : https://brendangreenley.com/undervolting-2020-dell-laptops-like-the-vostro-7500-and-more-tips-to-improve-thermals-battery-life-and-speed/#cpu-undervolt but with core ratio instead of the overclocking lock, you NEED to make your own M6700 IFR file- 132 replies

Hi, does someone here have a P3000 or P4000 to try this out ? -
Hi, I just came on this thread and found out that there seems to be a some "OC" vbios for the Quadro P4000 and maybe P3000 mobile version : https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/imac-2011-maxwell-and-pascal-gpu-upgrade.2300989/ Don't try to contact them, looks like they are a bit higher up in their mind and doesn't want to deal with "non mac user" hahaha. That said, I didn't tried them, your luck may vary, it might not work on normal laptop, I'm currently investigating how it's modded and might be able to replicate it. Here is a preview of what's this modded vbios is capable on the P4000 : Comparing to it's stock graphics score of about 3900~4000, this is a 20% performance uplift that's above a 1060 level of performance. What a shame, even my 7550 can substain 100W load on the CPU (it has been repasted)... at least since you have a 12950HX so you can undervolt it if needed. My advise when applying LM on a laptop : make a huge thermal paste barrier all around the CPU (on the sort of metal ring around the CPU/die), and don't forget the usual Kapton to protect the contact near the CPU die. @Ionising_Radiation on his cinebench screenshot you can see it's thermal throttling on hwinfo
