yeah altho im generally not big on conspiracy theories, that wouldnt surprise me, seeing how little they actually pushed their dedicated mining cards. its not like they went out of their way to initiate big PR campaigns around those. -
yeah ive looked into U.2 drives but the connectivity and power consumption are a bit finicky to handle, hmmm.... plus the "lower" capacity kinda bums me out @ 7.68 vs. 8 / 15.36 vs. 16 etc.
-
hm what kinda Samsung models are you referring to? arent those usually capped in capacity to 7.68TB? here is the adapter i was referring to: https://www.amazon.de/dp/B018AOZ9QM?linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&smid=A3JWKAKR8XB7XF&creativeASIN=B018AOZ9QM&tag=geizhalspre03-21&th=1

LOL OF COURSE the chinese would come up with something like that to make extra money hahaha. theyre always so creative when it comes to this kinda stuff 😄 -
huh! i had no idea 4TB capacity for M.2 SATA even existed! nice find 🙂 edit: DUDE! u totally gave me an idea how to upgrade to 8TB drives in a cost effective manner: install 2 M.2 4TB SATA drives into a 2.5" SATA adapter! sure ill lose the extra performance but itll be super cheap and functional, nice!
-
ah a fellow man of culture @data hoarder 😄
-
there is, but that would start at like 800 USD. mayyyybe 600 if you can get an amazing deal on it... 8TB is unfortunately not worth it yet in terms of price per TB. 4TB is where its at for the moment.

oooh crap, what kinda bios and SOC voltages were u running? this looks like one of the dreaded blown up X3D cpus....daaaaang i didnt expect smth like that to happen so long after the issue was first discovered and patched. this must absolutely suck for u bud, sorry to see that... keep us updated on ur testing and thoughts on replacement cpus. -
dang, that is some fine work right there! one of the OG DTRs that made Alienware a great name....too bad those days are long gone by now....
-
it depends on the kind ure looking for. for 250 CAD ull likely have to go used and 2.5" QLC, so ur best bet will be the samsung 870 QVO or a used enterprise drive with U.2 connection.
-
totally understandable, i mean....thats basically what i ended up doing: bigass tower with E-ATX mobo 😄

yeah the PR / marketing around it has been kinda weird. afaik it was only shown once by Roman, but more as an "afterthought" vs. the mycro direct die waterblock. availability is also scarce, although its apparently been on the market since Aug this year. dunno what to tell you, im just glad I remembered that thing and also found a shop with stock 😄 will be sure to provide results on this! -

phsew, thats a pretty dark view on things...i gotta stay positive for my little princess tho 🙂 on a lighter note, i got myself a Ryzen 7000 Delid Die Mate 😄 now based on what little info i could find online, delidding Ryzen 7000 with LM between IHS and die and using the cpu relidded, results may vary. still, with Zen 5 around the corner and 50% off, i figured its now or never haha 😄 if anyone is interested, the 50% offer still stands over at Proshop: https://www.proshop.de/CPU-Kuehler/Thermal-Grizzly-Ryzen-7000-Delid-Die-Mate-Modding/3143452?utm_source=geizhals&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pricesite im definitely not going direct die, due to the chiplets getting a perfectly aligned contact is very finicky, plus high risk of damaging one of the chiplets. a direct die frame aint gonna help with that either, so im just gonna keep things simple. while i was at it, i also grabbed myself the corresponding AM5 custom IHS, also by Thermal Grizzly: this should protect the surrounding mobo nicely from LM spills while significantly increasing the IHS contact area 🙂 feedback from other users looks promising at around 10-15C reduction, basically only couple degrees off the finicky and risky direct die. its basically sold out / out of stock everywhere i looked, BUT i found myself a reputable shop in the Netherlands that still have some in stock, if anyone in the EU is interested: https://www.sicomputers.nl/thermal-grizzly-am5-high-performance-heatspreader-id-905994.html -
haha i feel ya, although im still tuning my RAM 😛 ill be posting some detailed and interesting results soon, should interest u as well over in the official benchmark thread 😉
-
yep thats the first place i checked but theyre out of stock with no date on hand. BUT our friends in the Netherlands to the rescue, found a reputable shop with stock: https://www.sicomputers.nl/thermal-grizzly-am5-high-performance-heatspreader-id-905994.html ORDERED! 😄 btw user feedback on this one seems very positive, about 10-15C lower than stock and very very close to direct die, basically only a couple degrees off. thats worth it to me 🙂 plus im hoping i can still use the delidder and custom ihs on zen 5! @cylix you also itching to delid? 😉
-
aaaand another purchase! this one was quite spontaneous, because i saw it at 50% off so i couldnt resist 😛 got myself a Ryzen 7000 Delid Die Mate 😄 now based on what little info i could find online, delidding Ryzen 7000 with LM between IHS and die and using the cpu relidded, results may vary. still, with Zen 5 around the corner and 50% off, i figured its now or never haha 😄 if anyone is interested, the 50% offer still stands over at Proshop: https://www.proshop.de/CPU-Kuehler/Thermal-Grizzly-Ryzen-7000-Delid-Die-Mate-Modding/3143452?utm_source=geizhals&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pricesite im definitely not going direct die, due to the chiplets getting a perfectly aligned contact is very finicky, plus high risk of damaging one of the chiplets. a direct die frame aint gonna help with that either, so im just gonna keep things simple. ill be looking out for a custom IHS, however, ideally with increased mass and surface area. not sure if something like that exists though. any thoughts bro @cylix? edit: well i KNEW that Roman had designed something like that (custom IHS), now to check where i could find one for purchase: https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Thermal-Grizzly-High-Performance-Heatspreader/dp/B0CBN63QMT

hate to burst your thought bubble but at this point ur best bet would a mini ITX ish desktop build with min/maxxed size/volume vs. performance. look at how many of us OG NBR Clevo gang folks hopped over to desktop land....its not cuz we lost interest in highend DTR hardware. its cuz there isnt any anymore 😅 i got my lady the very last hurray of Clevo "DTRs" and even that sports a soldered gpu, but at least everything else incl the CPU is still socketed. but thats it!
-
oh heck yeah, for sure. im also curious to test the 870 QVO, will be the first QLC drive i get my hands on. i just hope its not TOO crappy 😄 i for one wouldnt touch QLC drives with a 10 meter pole, was already a huge undertaking for me to switch from MLC (970 Pro) to TLC drives (firecuda 530 and 870 Evo).
-
duude preaching to the choir, agreed on all points! ive also been eyeing 8TB SSDs, but as you said, their pricing is ridonkulous. 4TB drives are the highest cap that still makes sense from a value standpoint. i guess well have to be a bit more patient and make the most out of what we have today 🙂 currently at 60% capacity of my 24 TB setup so still have a bit of room and thus time until the next storage upgrade becomes necessary....

oh the govt banned both, or rather now requires licenses for both to be able and sell into china. theory is that the green goblin thinks the RTX 6000 is worth it, but the 4090 aint. makes sense if u look at the price tags 😄 -
dayum nice! what kinda storage setup are u running? performance or redundancy first? also, whatcha using that space for? not judging here, im also sporting a 24TB SSD setup 😄

cmon, everyone knows anything below 1000 L/h is for Noobs. go big or go home! /s 😄 yeah i saw that vid today, as well. tbh, i dont agree with his conclusions, at all. he basically cant decide what his message is, aside from dumping on other creators to push his own "commmunity driven" agenda of offering his way too expensive services to his subscribers. this based on the following points: - hes criticizing Igor's lab (actually not done by Igor himself in this case) for pushing 1.6 V through the utilized DIMMs during IMC testing. his argument: XMP only needs 1.45V! check a recent video he made on XMP profiles, his message: XMP for 8000 only works like 5% of the time! sooo, which is it? follow XMP or not? - hes dumping on the approach of only increasing the vDIMM to 1.6V and leaving everything else on auto. well duh, of course a manual tune brings better results. but this is to get a rough overview on IMC differences of countless cpus to compare 13th and 14th gen. so leaving mobo, dimms and settings the same, this is a valid testing base to check for any differences in IMC performance, with the cpu being the only variable left here. - based on the previous two points: hes offering those mobo/cpu/ram bundles for 1000 USD "tuning fee" plus hardware cost. at the same time hes dumping on others for not doing full proper manual tuning when trying to compare a shitton of cpus with each other. then he says XMP only needs 1.45 VDimm, so that means u CAN trust XMP right? soooo if tuning is "so simple" then why charge 1000 USD for his bundles? he lists 6 out of his 9 bundles reaching DDR5-8000+, sooo whats the conclusion here? IS IT so easy, then why charge 1000 USD? is it NOT that easy so then why dump on others for going a quick route for comparison purposes? - hes previously stated that DDR5 tuning is quite complex and not straight forward, especially vs. previous DDR4 tuning. and even after 1-2 years of tuning and learning hes still learning new stuff regarding DDR5. so basically, DDR5 tuning is hard from his perspective. so far so good. at the same time hes dumping on AMD X3D chips for the "complexity" to get them working properly (i.e. installing X3D driver or using process lasso to make sure the VCache die is utilized in games or other cache sensitive apps). basically stating that u cant offer this kinda hardware to the mainsteam masses, cuz its too "hard" to get it working. compare that to him making fun of basically everyone else for not being "in the know" and "too mainstream" or superficial when it comes to hardware tuning. so which is it, Joofus? is hardware tuning easy and u recommend ur "ocmmunity" to go the easy route? or are you and your commmunity "in the know" and everyone else is too stooopid and mainstream superficial for tuning stuff? there are also other points where he constantly contradicts himself. the only commonality i can make out is 1) to make himself look good 2) make other tech creators look bad / unknowledgeable at best / spreading intentional misinformation at worst 3) based on 1+2), advertize his overpaid "consultation" services 4) advertize his discord server, which u can only join by entering a subscription, shocker! so yeah...his vids are entertaining, but his way of going about things is dubious at best. this whole "im the specialized underdog, community first! dont trust the techtuber oligarchy"" has been used soooooooooooo many times in all kinda fields, including politics, religion, business....i mean, cmon, enough already. we get it. u want to push ur channel 🙂 so just say so but save on those theatrics. aight, enough ranting! back to playing some Control, loving this game! 😄 also done with DDR5-7600 tuning, only need to lower the voltages now. next step, taking another shot at 8000! -
got it! 276€ brand new, cant complain 😁
