  1. the image you posted isnt shown, please check that. thats good news though, lets hope this is also true for laptops and also other brands πŸ™‚ also, the situation might be more finegrained, in that basic compability is given without bios update but higher end performance might be trickier....
  2. i also just started playing control, seems like im in for a goodie based on what ure reporting here πŸ™‚ i noticed its much heavier on my gpu than all benches n stress tests ive used so far to tune in my daily overclock, seems like ive found myself a new gpu stress test hahaha.
  3. haha my post was expanding on yours, not contradicting it bud πŸ˜„ agreed on all points. the best thing about this is that we have more tuning options available and can rejoice about BIG NUMBERS πŸ˜› but its cool, always good to be able and choose the path forward for either max bandwidth or min latency or find a sweet spot in between.
  4. in all these cases, were talking capacities on base of 2, i.e. 2/4/8/16/32/64 and so forth. with those 24/48 GB sticks this is not the case anymore. desktop mobos need specific bios updates to be compatible with those 24/48 GB sticks, so i dont think itll actually be easier / more compatible on laptops πŸ™‚
  5. issue here being that laptops released before those 24/48 GB sodimms hit the market will depend on bios updates from the manufacturers to make them compatible. its not plug n play, unfortunately. laptops released after those sodimms hit the market are more likely to support them right away.
  6. in 6 months im expecting ddr5-10000+ kits being available hahaha
  7. way too much cuz i bought it on DAY ONE of availability. i checked the manufacturing date of the DIMMs in bios and theyre barely 8 weeks old, fresh off the production line in Taiwan LOL i paid 392€ with shipping, and theyre already down 20€ since then LOL btw, the G.Skill 6600 32GB kit was actually MORE expensive when i bought it last year...soooo ok, meme itch scratched πŸ˜› πŸ˜„
  8. "In a recent post on Reddit, an AMD engineer has confirmed that AGESA update 1007B has allowed Ryzen 7000 series processors to be used with faster DDR5 memory kits, with the engineer confirming that they were able to use DDR5-7200 memory with CL32 timings with a Ryzen 9 7950X3D at home. On top of that, many Ryzen 7000 series CPUs were found to be able to use DDR5-6400 memory with 1:1 memory controller to memory ratio." from the link bro @cylixposted above. seems like even in Gear 1 this will bring improvements, nice! edit: did i say wait? F that! Here are the 1515 Beta Bios versions with the new Agesa update for faster DDR5 speeds for Asus boards: https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/amd-600-series/x670-resource/m-p/901576
  9. oooh....might you be running into a power limit or CPU VRM throttling? sounds like your cpu temps DID actually improve, but now causing the cpu to hit its power limit or overheating the VRMs, in turn causing the downclock πŸ˜„
  10. ahaha spoken like a true proud and hopeful father wanting the best for his kids πŸ™‚ dont forget, Intel is also running Gear 2 ONLY on DDR5, while AMD sports Gear 1 in synchronous mode up to 6200/6600 (depending on IMC). So now AMD is basically following in Intel's footsteps and desynchronizing towards Gear 2. Will have to check and see how that impacts latency, and if going super high with the clocks might balance that out. Installed the new kit after updating my Bios, ran a quick test with Buildzoid timings at 6200, seems to boot right up πŸ™‚ Havent yet tested my manually tightened timings yet, but im also hoping i might be able to go tighter / higher on Gear 1 with the new kit. As for Gear 2, ill have to wait for the new Agesa 1.0.0.7b first, not out yet. Excited! lets rejoice in the red camp bro! πŸ˜„
  11. oh btw guys, with regards to Asrock "tuning" their mobos for higher speed RAM on Ryzen: this is not their doing, but rather AMD preparing to release a new AGESA version providing Ryzen 7000 with the tools to finally catch up to Intel in memory speeds: https://www.aroged.com/2023/07/20/amd-taught-ryzen-7000-to-work-with-fast-ram-agesa-1-0-0-7b-provided-support-for-ddr5-8000-and-even-higher/ DDR5-8200 confirmed booting on MSI boards mwahaha. lets goooooooooooooooo the impressive thing here is that even "cheapo" boards in the 200-300 usd price range can apparently reach up to 8000 speeds... very exciting to see where highend boards and good cpus cap out!
  12. actually, seagate's firecuda lineup of SSDs has the highest TBW rating across highend drives and also the only who includes a 3 year data rescue service (basically, they pay for data recovery should ur drive die inside the first 3 years). theyre also known for great providing workstation performance, i.e. sustained 4KB random IOPS. if its about pure overall performance, the firecuda 530 that i have has since fallen from the top spot down to like top 10 or so since it was released 2 years ago. especially the pcie 5.0 drives like the crucial T700 but also the samsung 990 pro have overtaken it. for now i can say im quite happy with the firecuda, solid performance and reliability thus far. aside from that i can also out myself as a "samsung fanboy" with regards to their ssds, ive only been buying ssds from them since 2014. the firecuda was a sidestep now since i wasnt completely convinced of the 980 Pro. in my opinion the 990 pro shouldve been the pcie 4.0 drive to start with, and the 990 pro their pcie 5.0 drive...
  13. haha yep better safe than sorry after the recent charades πŸ˜„
  14. awesome drive for sure that 990 Pro πŸ™‚ i wonder when theyll finally release the 4TB version...
  15. then wed have to do in person meet ups or converse by snail mail for our forum threads πŸ˜…
  16. oh nice, didnt realize ure also in the Suprim X 4090 club πŸ˜„ how high can u go on your core? also, which vbios would u reocmmend? im still on the OG Strix OC since it lets me downclock the GPU suuuuper low for idle operation. but im eyeing the 666W HOF or the Asus 1000W but the latter disables any thermal protections, hum... any input appreciated πŸ™‚ huh, the scandinavians mustve missed that, they still survive their sauna sessions at up to 120Β°C πŸ˜„ but jokes aside, thats what sweating and wind chill factor is for, 42C ambient air doesnt mean that ull die instantly, human body still has thermal controls in place to survive πŸ™‚
  17. yeah its funny how CPUs somehow have a far higher thermal density and require much higher-end pastes / LM whereas GPUs with their insane TDPs are quite "happily chugging along" even with regular pastes.
  18. noice, on that topic im also getting my 8200 sticks in today, excited!
  19. ...until they all start burning up, as well πŸ˜…crazy times we live in guys...scary af, especially with a lil kid under my wing now. really wonder what kinda world shell be living in when shes my current age....
  20. 3240 is damn impressive, i can only go up to 3120 with my suprim X (air) before it settles down around 3045-3060 after heat soaking. vRAM is about the same though at around 1500. yeah so far so good with my seasonic cable, no melting πŸ™‚ *knocking on wood*
  21. haha i never said it would work! πŸ˜› youre absolutely right my man, so back to topic: I also purchased a medium sized mod mat from GamersNexus. I was originally planning to go with the fullsized one, but then got out my measurement tape and realized how FREAKISHLY huge that thing is lulz. wouldnt fit on my desk without having to shove away everything else haha. so medium size it is! btw, its a good timinng to order a mod mat at GN, in case youre interested: they recently published this full length documentary about AMD (planning for Intel and Nvidia in the future, as well): in celebration of that, theyre currently signing autographed mod mats not just by Steve, but also the full team that was involved in the making of said documentary πŸ™‚ aside from that, the current batch of the medium sized mod mat apparently has a print error on it, so youre basically getting a rare "misprint" mistake by GN and they include some goodies to make up for that: sooo yeah, if youve been eyeing to purchase a mod mat, now is a good time! the offer for the additional autographs will last for 7 days after publication of the documentary, so its still valid until..... aw crap, sorry guys, seems like that offer was only valid until 15-Jul LOL. didnt intend to lead you on like that, only realized it just now when checking the publication date of the video πŸ˜… sowwyyyyy
  22. ah yes u mentioned that before. in that case u could go the UV route to save on amperage and potentially free up more headroom (unless uve already done so).
  23. it depends. if you have a stock / locked bios then the only hope you have is via Intel XTU for RAM overclocking. youll have to try multiple version of XTU, based on experience there might be some older versions that offer more tuning options for a specific laptop / cpu model than newer ones. so its a trial and error with lots of patience thing....as RAM tuning usually is πŸ˜„ and yes, im tuning my RAM, just like basically everything else in my systems haha πŸ˜›
