  1. on to expanding the 5090 budget 😎
  2. welp... kool, on the bright side: looks like ill still get around to tuning my 7950X 🤣 moving on to waiting for the X3D parts. hopefully AMD actually DID improve the Vcache and its not just same vcache slapped onto the Zen 5 parts 💩 btw, respective vids by GN, JTC, Roman, etc are also out, just couldnt be bothered to post all the links here 😋 interesting tidbit: Roman got a defective cpu, second one after GN's 9600X. not a good showing! CPUs crapping out on us left and right, Intel and AMD, yay....
  3. yes of course. but i seem to remember that any chips (be it cpu or gpu) boosting out of the gate right up to the capability limit and leaving only measly few % points to manual OC didnt earn much happiness around here. soooo....what do we want, then? pushed to the limit out of the box or lots of OC headroom left on the table? 😄
  4. good point, they might be saving their better silicon dies for the higher end skus or even the X3D chips. maybe thats the strategy to let the X3D parts clock higher?
  5. this. +25% performance jump going from stock to OC. that still "meh" for you @papusan? 😄 here i thought we dont really give a damn about stock performance 😛 and thats not even delidded yet... but yes i still agree that the stock performance is VERY disappointing indeed. AMD put too much focus on efficiency this time around instead of letting their new cpus off the leash. i mean cmon, at this point in time NON-DEFECTIVE cpus are already a win against intel and their still developing 13/14th gen desaster... but of course, even more reason to hold back and play the intel playbook of yesteryear starting with 2nd gen.... ill be holding tight to my setup and see what the 9950X and the X3D variants bring to the table before making a purchasing decision. no rush this time 🙂
  6. yeah i had already seen rumours on that online regarding pricing very comparable to Zen 4. lets hope this is not indicative of non-competitive performance vs. Intel and Zen 4 😄
  7. shoot, had connection issues and my reply got lost.... anyways, long story short: - X670 vs. X870 are basically identical, the latter only has higher-end minimum requirements set by AMD - IO die was stated to be "overall the same" on Zen 5, but that leaves wiggle room for finetuning, i.e. higher real life benefits from higher DDR5 speeds - im expecting improved RAM support to come from the CPUs, not the mobos (notwithstanding 2 DIMM / higher-quality trace boards, but that goes for both X670 and X870) - ive since switched basically all my high-intensive CPU workloads to the GPU, so im more open minded to at least consider the X3D skus this time around. ill take my time and check the reviews first before making a purchase. good thing is, once the X3D chips are released, the regular chips will likely fall in price, so no real loss 🙂 (ill still pull the trigger on the 5090 on launch day tho 😄 wait and see game will be CPU only 😛)
  8. sometime in the 50s or 60s. ud get all the economic boom era, not have to worry about climate change yet, enjoy stable jobs for basically ur whole working career, will be able to afford housing on a single fulltime salary, not have to worry about stuff like fake news or AI deepfakes, etc. BUT still get to enjoy lots of the goodies of the modern era in terms of tech, medicine, ease of travels, etc. only have to be a bit more careful when it comes to lead poisoning and food additives, those still ran rampant lol. but cant have it all i guess hahaha
  9. yup, i have been keeping tabs on P5800X drives popping up on ebay, but damn those prices are just insaaaaaaaanne... ikr...PNY like WTF at first but when Vince explained it, totally makes sense! curious to see what will come out of it 🙂 too bad tho that KP cards are always late to the party, id rather grab a solid 5090 at launch and make the most of it with vbios cross flashes...
  10. yup after this im actually thinking about going the X3D route this time... wanna see what info AMD will provide during their upcoming Tech Day, detailed info so far is scarce for Zen 5 parts.
  11. LOL i seee what ure getting at. but read below. based on current trends in both CPU and GPU, it looks like we are headed into more and more complex territory with regards to theorizing performance metrics just based on specs alone. we started super simple: higher frequency = better then we went down the core road = more cores + IPC + higher frequency = better next we added cache, which became more important (at least in gaming benchmarks) than cores now we are heading into higher fragmentation still, with different core archs / designs, HT alternatives, I/O dies, etc. what im trying to say is: u cannot just state anymore that "more threads via HT is better" or "reach higher frequency = better" or "MOAR CORES = BETTER" etc. same goes for overclocking strats, straightforward set = get will likely be over soon. interesting times ahead!
  12. thats what i was referring to. ure comparing stock zen 5 vs. max OC of your chip 😄
  13. trigger finger is ready, skipping the upcoming X3D parts for higher productivity perf and more tuning flexibility 🙂 love the fact that AM5 support is now extended to 2027+ btw! sooo...ure comparing stock vs. max OC. right 😄 word @launch day facts. u got one side dooming intel for abandoning HT, the other side dooming AMD cuz Intel baby cores have MEGA IPC UPLIFT INCOMING. welp, lets wait and see whats actually up 🙂
  14. dayum sounds like custom work with small volume, otherwise wouldnt make sense to have such pricing attached... any chance u can dig up those aliexpress links? curious to have a looksie 🙂
  15. yup holding steady as u say 😄 keeping an eye out on 14900K / KS silicon on fleabay, K sku can be had for under 440€, which is pretty nice. cheapest KS is at 590€ with price offer option. id be interested to see if the 330W PSU would actually do anything, not that the board is hard limited to a specific max. wattage... whats the highest u were able to pull thus far? also, can you link those custom heatsinks?
  16. well, theyre gonna replace hyperthreding with "rentable units", basically just a different approach to processing multiple threads at the same time. well have to wait and see how good that approach will actually be though.
  17. phew im all about platform longevity, so going AM4 or socket 1700 wouldnt be an option in my book... especially if u want to build it out over time and keep upgrading.
  18. dont mix up mobile 4090 with the full fat desktop verison, worlds of difference. id wait for the 5090, either u can snipe one right at launch (until then ull also have more money saved up) or u can grab a 4090 for much cheaper than now since it will not be top dog anymore 🙂
  19. very cool video, didnt expect to enjoy it so much, has a lot of ASMR vibes hahaha
  20. is this 3080 quick n dirty vs. ur best 3070 result? if so, then thats a very promising lead already at +15-18%!
  21. exactly my thoughts when i saw this thread. then again, STAYING ALIVE is a pretty good motivator if u ask me lulz. id probably move back to asia to switch to rice based dishes for the rest of my life, otherwise i wouldnt be able to fully enjoy the local food here in "wheaty" europe 😄
  22. lol 500 bucks 6 years ago really aint that much for a nice monitor....i mean, uve been using it for 6 years now, so it was worth it right? what should i say, having paid almost 1100 bucks on my monitor about 1.5 years ago 😄 still love it though! damn, this is reaaaally unusual and basically unheard of for Intel. theyve always been a beacon of quality and reliability when it comes to CPUs...
  23. absolutely, dont take any chances with such an expensive monitor 😄
  24. i just cant get comfy with using an OLED display for main D2D usage. From my perspective, it's basically buying hardware with an inbuilt failure switch a.k.a. burn in. especially in my case usage where i need a display for both gaming / media, as well as work, OLED is just not an option = running static elements for 8+ hours per work day. so at least for now: Mini LED with max. number of FALD zones FTW! 🙂
